U.S. intelligence officials were tracking the spy balloon that was shot down earlier this month since it lifted off from the south coast of China, U.S. officials said Tuesday.
According to U.S. officials, after takeoff, the spy balloon drifted east in the direction of Guam and Hawaii and then went north to Alaska and entered U.S. airspace on Jan. 28. Given the path, it's possible that the balloon was blown off course by weather, but U.S. officials said that once it came south over the continental United States, it was being controlled by China.
The tracking of the balloon was first reported by The Washington Post. China has insisted

The good news: Our government is capable of tracking a big white floating ball located almost anywhere.
The bad news: Unless some guy in Montana spots the ball, our government will pretend the ball doesn't exist.

They can track balloons from China and yet can't track where Elvis is hiding.

And just let it roll on to cover the country, hoping to slip it past us. And does this mean that Medals Milley and Traitor Joe are both working to help the ChiComs gather intel on the country?
It sure seems like defending the USA is not on either the WH or the Pentagon's agenda.

I actually believe our government knows what it's doing and these talking heads who want to politicize it can say some stupid stuff. The U.S. turned off communications over facilities it passed over and shooting it down over water leaves it more intact to examine. The government may have even orchestrated the outrage in the MSM as an added excuse to shoot it down.

#4...maybe we were smart enough to send "counter-intelligence" signals since we knew it was coming....or jammed their communications back to the homeland....

Posters #5 and #7 are 1000% correct. See the BS lost all credibility when "Uncle Walter" lied his butt off about the Vietnam War. Now they have that lying presstitute Nora O'Donnell still in last place behind Davie Manure and Five Head Lester Dolt.

And our Government allowed Xi's White Balloon to traverse the US, recording whatever it wanted, transmitting whatever it wanted, to homebase in China. Our Government is inept, incompetent and downright dangerous. Heads should roll bigly. Congress if you have the guts, investigate the crap out of this. Try not to be political but investigative this time. Your citizens survival are at stake. Dont f!$k this up.

We should have shot it down the moment it entered US airspace on January 28. People at NORAD were asleep at their jobs and should be court martialed. The short of it is, they had NO idea what its payload was and it is NOT their job to assume it is benign. It is their job to assume it is hostile.

IF we knew it was coming and where it was coming from and it was allowed to enter UA air space , people should be tried for treason for not shooting it down . Answer this, Would this have happened if Ronald Reagan were president? Or Donald Trump?

#10, my guess is that, if the people at NORAD were asleep at their jobs, it is because they were told by the White House to take a nap.

Wait a minute. This thing drifted over Guam and then shot north to Alaska and then across the continental US ,but it wasn't controlled by China until it came across the US.?
That trip itinerary just doesn't make sense.

I’m skeptical of this story. The military is trying to show their mojo after the fact. Meanwhile they are shooting down anything that moves through our airspace because they claim they can’t identify what it is. Doesn’t really add up, does it.

diapers and the red diaper babies let it traverse the whole width of the Pacific and the continental USofA and didn't take action until an outcry of the citizenry made them do something about it??

What is most noteworthy about this story is that it's an admission the US spies on China as much as China spies on the US. It pays to keep an eye on enemy assets. Never know when you might want to drop a nuke on them. Or provide intel to an assassin that can remove a target from a mile away. And that is why we don't shoot down each other's spy network. We shoot down their spy network, and they shoot down ours. Then both are blind.
Every country with the necessary resources spies on everyone else. bet both China and the US are watching Ukraine and Russia. Bet Russia is watching China and the US. And on and on it goes. Nothing will change.
The only reason we are hearing about this is because people want to humiliate Biden, and Biden is using it as a distraction. Talk about spy balloons and alien invasions means less talk about government corruption and incompetence.

I'm sure the chi/coms called Milk Toast Milley at the pentagon and told him and HE decided to let it fly over our sensitive warning systems in this country....remember when he called china to tell them if President Trump did anything he deemed dangerous to china ...he would call them...a traitor from head to his Lilly white nose....most important...he is white....????...not that WE are under attack from china....

Re #4, "shooting it down over water leaves it more intact"???
Hmmm. Show me the difference in the wreckage of an airliner that plunges steeply into the ground or equally steeply into the earth. There is no real difference from a high speed impact with water or dirt.
And the water immediately damages sensitive electronics and makes it very hard to find the stuff and recover it. On land, you drive over and load it onto a truck, the only damage is from impact, not salt water corrosion and you lose far less of it. I think your claim is off base.

But for the citizen who reported the balloon-on-a-mission, the American people would never have known about it. Do we know for sure when the occupant of the White House was told? I ask because a certain general known to have gone around President Trump to reassure China it would get a heads up if Donald Trump made a move he didn’t like, is still in a position to make decisions above his pay grade.

I can imagine that debate at the pentagon. "Which is worse, saying we were unaware of what flew over us, or saying we decided to let it?"

Lie. It was first reported in a Montana newspaper.
Seeing that kinda colored my belief in the rest of the article.
