A woman accidentally ran over a man suspected of trying to steal her truck's catalytic converter in the Los Angeles suburb of Palmdale Tuesday evening, CBS Los Angeles reports. The suspect later died. Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies arrived at a retail parking lot at 5:56 p.m. Tuesday. A "lifted" 4x4 Ford Excursion truck was partially backed out of a parking space, deputies said. An unidentified man was underneath the vehicle.

A frail grandma, whose husband is in even poorer health, of my acquaintance, trying to sell her pickup, parked it on the street, and yes, her CC was stolen. cost her 1500 for a new one, installed. Cost her that money, and even more difficulty she didn't need. It was a thief that has no comprehension of what they do to others.

#4 is correct about the size of Ford Excursions. They are massive, and heavy. If a catalytic converter thief gets either the trunk of his body or his head overrun by a 7,000# vehicle, the vehicle always wins. As Scorpio (The Killer) said in Dirty Harry, "Freeze cop. Now, left hand, pull out your gun." [Harry pulls out his .44 Magnum] The Killer: "My, that's a big one."

One more Tip: Best way to stop the thief is just start the car and run over the perp, probably best to turn the wheels while you go back and forth a few times.

Re #10 and others....if you CC gets stolen, DO NOT go to the dealer to get a new one installed. I thought I had a bad converter on a high mileage Honda - the Computer Code was "bad catalytic converter".....so I replaced it with one from O'Reilly....$150 instead of $650 at the Honda dealer - plus installation. I installed it myself. The "check engine" light stayed off for months....but it came back, because the problem was actually failing oxygen sensors, due to 275,000 miles of wear and tear. Even if you can't install it yourself, an independent garage with the $150 version should beat the heck out of the dealer price. Similarly, the actual fix was two new oxygen sensors. One at $275 and one at $250 at Honda dealer, on the parts counter. At O'Reilly, $125 and $100, what a great deal, right? At Rock Auto, mail order - SAME Nippon Denso part number as OEM Honda and O'Reilly, for $65 and $50. These unscrew, screw in, plug in the wire connector. Not too difficult to change out. I went from $525 in parts to $115 in parts using Rock Auto. I have no connection to them except as a very satisfied customer. If you can wait for mail order parts, and not every fix can, you can save a lot.

I have three cars and a two-car garage, so one car is parked outside. I keep nothing in it. I had the catalytic converter etched and registered, and I park it up against the house, behind a wall with two security cameras and motion-activated lights trained on it. If my CC gets stolen, at least I'll have good videos.

Headed into the 2016 presidential election, many expected Walker to dominate the Republican primaries and earn the party's nomination to face former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In 1912, former Georgia congressman and onetime vice presidential candidate Tom Watson published The Roman Catholic Hierarchy, a reprise of his voluminous anti-Catholic polemics and speeches. To him, Catholics constituted an alien and immoral subversive force bent on turning America into a vassal state of the Vatican. Quoth Watson, “We have heard the potentates of this faith in America confess that, on an issue between our Government and the Pope, they would adhere to Papa.” Based in no small part on the popularity of his virulent anti-Catholicism, Watson was elected to the U.S. Senate. Experts are calling for an investigation into a Stacey Abrams-founded charity over a large financial discrepancy. The New Georgia Project, a minority-focused democracy advocacy group founded in 2013, was run by Nse Ufot, hand-picked by Abrams, until she was fired in October. The group filed its 2021 Form 990 financial disclosure three months later, when the form was two months overdue, an investigation by the Washington Free Beacon found. The group reported a $533,846 consulting payment and $67,500 grant to an obscure charity called the Black Male Initiative, run by Ufot's brother. However, the group claims it never received any such payment.

America has been drifting toward a level of corruption incompatible with a free society and a free-market economy. Political and economic freedom depend on the presence of a level of honesty that makes it possible for people to interact with one another with a sense of trust. Consider recent corrupt, criminal events and their implication for the future of American culture. An estimated $20 billion was stolen from California’s unemployment compensation program. The money was largely taken by criminals already incarcerated in California prisons using prison computers. Outside accomplices would pick up the money, according to the Sacramento district attorney I interviewed

On February 9, New Jersey Italian restaurant Nettie’s House of Spaghetti, despite having a name that makes it sound like a children’s restaurant, issued a statement across its social media accounts that beginning in early March, they would no longer allow children under 10 to dine at the restaurant. The announcement made headlines and points to the perennial debate over whether banning kids under a certain age from eating at restaurants is reasonable. This debate is, of course, not new. There will always be a steady stream of new children coming to restaurants with their parents, and some of those children will act in accordance with their developmental tendencies.

The term “Judeo-Christian values” is frequently used. I am one who uses it. I do so for the same reason the late great British prime minister Margaret Thatcher did. “The truths of the Judaic-Christian tradition,” she said, “are infinitely precious, not only, as I believe, because they are true, but also because they provide the moral impulse which alone can lead to that peace, in the true meaning of the word, for which we all long . . . Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot urged black voters to help her 'keep the seat' from falling to white or Hispanic challengers, despite an appalling spike in crime. As Lightfoot seeks a second term in the upcoming February 28 election, some business leaders concerned about the continuing crime wave say they don't think she is up to the task.  In rallies on Saturday, Lightfoot told the South and West side residents who don't support her to not bother voting at all. Chicago's South Side is a historically-black area. 'Any vote coming from the South Side for somebody not named Lightfoot is a vote for Chuy Garcia or Paul Vallas,' Lightfoot said.

President Joe Biden could wait up to a whole year before beginning his re-election campaign should he decide to run for a second term in 2024.  According to a new report, Biden will follow the “Obama model,” in which former President Barack Obama didn’t start campaigning until 13 months after announcing his re-election run.  “Obama went 13 months after the announcement to start campaigning,” NBC News’s Peter Alexander said during an interview on “Meet the Press.” “[Biden] could make an announcement in April and wait until next year to get on the trail.”
