Alec Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed are to be charged with involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and Rust Special Prosecutor Andrea Reeb announced the charges in a written statement today.
Both Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed face a maximum of 18 months in prison if convicted. Dave Halls, the Assistant Director, has pleaded guilty to the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon.
'If any one of these three people—Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed or David Halls—had done their job, Halyna Hutchins would be alive today.

They won't do any time of course, but at least a conviction would give the family some satisfaction.

Long overdue

The irony is that I always believed he would end up in jail for something he did during one of his enraged public meltdowns, such as a fight over a traffic space. As #1 notes, probably won't do time, but at least he has been indicted.

Both are responsible. This never should have happened. There is no way a deadly weapon should be used a prop on a movie set.

Trump has had a lot of detractors. All have gone down in flames, because they are nasty, rather than sincere.

As much as I despise Baldwin I can't see this charge sticking to him. The armorer, on the other hand, had no cause or reason to put a live round in a prop gun. She is certainly criminally negligent as far as I can see.

6, it was his set. He not only mishandled the weapon, they had a history of bad safety and since this was his show he is responsible for all safety on set.

Just a few nights ago on You Tube I happened on a SNL skit with Baldwin doing his Trump routine when I thought about this thinking it was swept under the rug. Baldwin will do the liberal thing of blaming someone else with his reckless crime, it's what liberals do. I just want the hateful Baldwin to have misery like Joy Behar does to people. FAB

I have only one question. Who brought the live round to the party?

If he does go to prison, I hope that they put him in the general population. He’d be VERY popular.

If nothing else, Baldwin's defense will be pricey.

If I was on a jury, unless there are more facts that are presented than we now know, I wouldn't convict the armorer. But, we may not have all the facts.
The simple facts of how the gun works are very well known to me. Baldwin HAD TO do two things.
1. Pull back the hammer beyond the halfcock notch, possibly all the way to the fullcock notch. It HAD TO be beyond the halfcock notch to have enough energy to fire the cartridge.
2. Pull the trigger....and perhaps accidentally lose control of the hammer, if he was pulling it back. But if he had ONLY lost control of the hammer during the cocking motion....the halfcock notch would catch the hammer before it strikes the cartridge.....unless the trigger was also pulled.
Baldwin absolutely had to do those two things. Probably out of ignorance and stupidity rather than malice, but he had to have done them. And that he didn't have the armorer on site, checking the guns is on his "producer's hat" head. He did the shooting while wearing his "actor's hat".
Two failures...producer and actor -- who in this case are both Alec Baldwin.
The armorer should have quit when her authority was split and she wasn't in total control of the guns and ammo on set.

Let's hope that they get the facts out in the trial. So far, a lot has been missed of the technical detail by the dimwitted reporters.
How did the live ammo get on the set?
How did a live cartridge get into the gun?
Why were these ignorant fools messing with a gun without the armorer at that location, and under total control of ALL the guns and ALL the ammo? The armorer was not in control as she absolutely needed to be. Baldwin had apparently forced her to take up the job of prop master....and she had somehow lost control of the guns and ammo. How did that happen?
She should have walked.

Only a fool would take the word of another person that a gun was safe to fire. Baldwin should have checked to see if the gun had the proper load. It is possible that the gun was loaded with "wadcutters" which at first glance or even second glance might look like blanks. Most gun owners would know the difference. The armourer would be at fault even allowing wadcutters on the set.

Under no circumstances should a gun be loaded and under no circumstances should one point a loaded gun toward another. Both are guilty.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 24, said her dad, well-known Hollywood armorer Thell Reed, gave her some direction growing up — but she “figured” out most of the job requirements on “my own.”

No jail. Revoke their licenses to ever be on a movie set.
