McCarthy loses seventh vote for speaker
as he struggles to lock down votes

Original Article

Kevin McCarthy came up short once again on Thursday as he lost the seventh House vote to elect a new speaker. The outcome will only increase pressure on McCarthy to end the impasse over his imperiled speakership bid, but it is unclear whether he will be able to pull it off as the situation grows increasingly dire for his future political prospects. The House is moving to hold an eighth vote.

Comments:

maybe this is really about the line of succession - if Biden gives out, then it is either Kamala or Speaker or a VP approved by the Senate which will be Romney or nobody. This is not about the Speakership it is about the presidency. game it accordingly imo

There is talk that McCarthy may deal with the Democrats to get the Speakership. Kevin must be tone deaf. If he does that he gives away the farm and shows that he is nothing but a tool of the MIC and Deep Staters. House Republicans look elsewhere. How about Zeldin from NY? Look elsewhere Republicans or be destined for the dustbin of history as no one in Red State America will believe another word the Republicans utter.

If Republicans cannot manage their own majority in the House, we should we expect them to be able to run the country?

At this point McCarthy needs to withdraw. The 20 need to cooperate to find a viable candidate who can get a consensus. It’s the only way. Think what you want about the dissenters but they are using the process that is in place.

sorry for 2nd post, but I think the rebels are fighting the last war, and their ideas of village-level democracy in choosing a Speaker who may become POTUS are naive. The ways they are disposing of McCarthy and weakening him and making him easy to switch out, are going to reappear the day he is really in the line of succession and they will repent what they have done IN no way is a real MAGA going to happen All the forces of the world are against them and trying to deceive and manipulate. They are over their heads and playing a game they do not actually understand and becoming the voice of changes they will bitterly repent when their meaning really appears. Well intended political Luddites.

Anyone else think they aren't discussing the real issue here? They want to keep the Trump investigations going so they keep him out of Washington. Problem is the Republicans know what will happen to them if they do that. Republicans about now wish they had lost a few more House seats so it would stay in Democrat hands so they would take all the blame. Is Washington dysfunctional? You betcha! Keep watching for more proof.

There is nothing absurd about any of this. The freak out by the establishment just demonstrates how used we are to letting a group of rino backroom dealers (who serve DeepState, big party donors, big tech and bloated government) ram their trained choices on us for SOTH. The freak out is because conservatives are supposed to cave, get bought off for a few leftovers at the adult dinner table and shut up. We have a Brave 20 who finally have some guts to stand up to compromised liar McCarthy who is scarily lustful of that Speaker’s gavel. Oh the House wants this all to be done quickly all right. With each passing day, each member taking a vote that millions are watching. Representatives who campaign on sterling moral and conservative promises are being put on the spot with this vote. We are seeing a good long debate. As this is so important, it needs to be right not just quick. Best thing to happen to this chamber in a long time. This has exposed Newt, FOX NEWS principals even more and it was very weird watching Charlie Kirk trying to look as if he weren’t shilling for Kevin but he sure was! I was surprised!!!

When Dashi Ergys was shot to death in an upscale Guayaquil restaurant in January, the media provided little information about him other than that he was Albanian. Despite the fact that he appeared to be specially targeted, many people assumed he was a tourist who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was more than a month later that a National Police commander revealed in comments during a radio interview that Ergys was under investigation for drug trafficking and that he was probably part of an Albanian mafia operating in Guayaquil, Manta and Esmeraldas, involved in shipping illegal drugs to Europe.

Things that are held as treasured virtues in the normal world are often political liabilities. We’ve all just been served with a shining example of how reflexive moderation – which is good when estimating measurements for recipes, or having drinks at a work party – becomes the tendency of a political fool. The wellbeing of countless Americans has long been sacrificed on the altar of moderation by the Democratic party, and all the Democrats win for it is maximal disgust.

Mr McCarthy's party had taken control of the House – the US lower chamber – following the midterm elections in the autumn, with a slim 222-212 majority. Usually, election of the Speaker follows seamlessly, as a formality, with the leader of the largest party a shoo-in for the job. However, recent splits in the Republican party meant that did not happen until the 15th round of voting. In the 14th ballot, Mr McCarthy received 216 votes - one shy of the number needed for a victory - as a small faction
