Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania —Authorities began tracking the man charged in the killings of four Idaho college students as he drove across the country around Christmas and continued surveilling him for several days before finally arresting him Friday, sources tell CNN. Bryan Christopher Kohberger, 28, was arrested in his home state of Pennsylvania and charged with four counts of murder in the first degree, as well as felony burglary in connection with the stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students in November, according to Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson.(snip)His father actually went out (to Idaho) and they drove home together,” LaBar said.

Another 3am 'knock' on the door...wonder how many SWAT team members were used to collect this one...no mention of that in the article...

It seems reasonable that a potentially dangerous person would be arrested when they didn’t expect it. Maybe no mention of a SWAT team because none was employed? Sometimes I wonder where poster thoughts are taking them.

Typical sociopathic killer. He should have just gone into Democrat politics. He could have murdered millions and gotten away with it

Withholding judgment until I learn more. It looks like this house was party central and his DNA may have resulted from a previous visit along with dozens of others.Whoever did this knew the layout of the house. The white Elantra seems pretty damning though.

The family says this crime is "out of character" for Bryan. "Out of character"? Try to put yourself in that position, the FBI arrives at your door, arresting your family member for the most vicious, violent crime of the year, and all you can say is you consider such a crime "out of character"?
Wouldn't you recoil in horror, dread, terror? Your son is charged with this? It sounds like what they say in the world of psychological evaluation, these people show a "flat affect." I realize I'm talking about a blip in the arrest stage, but I believe CNN would certainly record a more emotionally traumatized family if there had been such a scene.
Perhaps this lack of empathy in the family actually helps to explain the man accused of four gory murders who then travels home with his family in the car he apparently drove around in that night of his monstrous deeds.

FTA: "Genetic genealogy techniques were used to connect Kohberger to unidentified DNA evidence..."
I recently heard someone on a TV program commenting that, at this point, if you are an American of European descent, you already have the DNA of a relative/ancestor/descendant in the DNA databases.
So advice to the wise: Don't take up a life of crime, if you have, give it up, if you can't give it up, be very, very, very neat.

How the Elantra was tied to the crime and identified:
A white Hyundai Elantra was spotted near the murder scene on police bodycam footage from an unrelated call on the night of the murders. The same car was also spotted on security footage from that night by a gas station attendant. The Elantra was recovered in Pennsylvania at the home where Kohberger was arrested by SWAT at 3 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 30.

See? It’s all been reported. But not in headlines. Oh, no! Gotta read? Uh-huh…
And for the poster who expressed concern about the cost of sending a SWAT team to arrest him - there’d been no mention in the article - this article reports that. Yup. When we’ve got a psycho probable quadruple murderer who has just done a runner across the country, why spend money on SWAT to pick him up? Just send a couple of uniforms. Or maybe a couple of social workers? /s

As for his DNA’s having been deposited in the house during a party, his DNA was found “at the crime scene”. That would mean in the bedrooms on the second and third floors. There were also derfensive wounds on some of the bodies. Some tried to fight him off. That could have picked up his DNA from body contact, fingernails, etc.
But a defense attorney might try that story on for size...

As long as I’m talking,I’ll add that I believe his reaction to his arrest “has anyone else been arrested?” or something like that, was just a ploy. An attempt to muddy the waters. He fancies himself a genius.

If he was so smart he would realize that law enforcement is now using Ancestry DNA to solve crimes. The Golden State Killer was finally captured after 40 some years using the database.

How did they track him across the country. Perhaps every new car has the equipment already installed for the authorities to track anyone they want.

LaBar called Kohberger “very intelligent.” Uh, not so much it seems. Graduating from college these days is not a guarantee of anything except massive debt.
#11, there is GPS, cell phone, highway and business cameras all over the place and credit card usage at gas stations, motels and restaurants. The only mystery to me is why did Daddy have to come all the way out to Idaho to escort his 28-year-old son home?
