The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has neglected to provide in full certain disclosures requested by members of the U.S. Senate relating to the department’s growing role in “counter-disinformation” activities, and this failure is particularly egregious in light of the co-equal roles of the executive and legislative branches of the government, two senators have charged in a Dec. 15 letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) charge the DHS with ignoring or downplaying their “serious concerns” about the DHS’s “growing counter-disinformation efforts” as conveyed previously in a letter of June 7, which formally requested “information necessary to

Yesterday the Washington Post had a story about an elite Russian brigade and how it was gradually demolished over the course of the invasion of Ukraine. Last night the NY Times published a very lengthy and detailed story looking at the entire Russia war effort and how, thanks to Putin’s own arrogance, it became a nightmare for the soldiers sent there. The story opens on one brigade full of recently mobilized soldiers who’d been assured they would never be sent to fight on the front lines. Naturally, that was a lie.
Fumbling blindly through cratered farms, the troops from Russia’s 155th Naval Infantry Brigade had no maps, medical kits or

A befuddled President Biden casually maligned the Irish while botching his wife’s family history during a gaffe-filled appearance in Delaware on Friday. “I may be Irish, but I’m not stupid,” Biden inexplicably said as he greeted 102-year-old World War II veteran Ray Firmani during a town hall on veterans’ benefits in New Castle, Del. “I married Dominic Giacoppa’s daughter,” Biden continued. “So, you know, I got a little Italian in me now, you know?” The audience of military veterans and federal officials received the off-script comments in puzzled silence — but critics on Twitter took comic umbrage at the ethnic

Yeah, I’m not sure announcing that you are trying to commit criminal extortion on national television is a smart move, but it’s a move Jack Sweeney made on Saturday evening. Sweeney is the ridiculous clown behind the “ElonJets” harassment campaign. The site bypasses privacy filters on the ADSB tracking of Elon Musk’s private jets in order to expose his location. That recently led to Musk’s son being attacked by what most believe to have been a member of Antifa.
While on CNN, Sweeney told the host (admittedly, I have no idea who he is and don’t care) that he would stop what he’s doing in exchange for $50,000

San Francisco's mayor is asking municipal departments to find significant savings as the embattled city braces for a $728 million budget deficit, predicted for the next two fiscal years.
With some of the lowest office occupancy rates in the country, thanks to the tech companies that make the city's lifeblood retreating to remote work, San Francisco has seen residents move to the suburbs - pushed also by rising crime.
The city's income from property taxes and office rates has plummeted, causing sleepless nights in City Hall.
London Breed, the mayor, on Thursday asked municipal departments to identify ways to reduce costs by 5 percent in the next fiscal year and by 8 percent

Politicians frequently lie, but Old Joe Biden’s career record is clear: He makes Josef Goebbels look honest. Biden is such a massive liar that it’s unclear whether or not he has ever told the truth in an entire lifetime of grift and corruption. On Friday afternoon, however, Biden outdid himself, appearing at the Delaware Veteran’s Summit and telling so many outrageous lies about his career and his family that if he were a conservative, establishment media “fact checkers” would have died of exhaustion. It’s lucky for them that whenever Old Joe speaks, they take the day off.
Biden claimed that when he was elected vice president in 2008,

Conservative college students across the country are starting conservative newspapers to challenge the dominant liberal narrative peddled on their campuses, students told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
These student-run newspapers are often dedicated to providing a space for free speech and different perspectives due to overt leftist politics in mainstream campus outlets, the DCNF learned. Legacy student newspapers across the country have run articles committed to anti-racism, argued for limitations on free speech and supported ideas like abolishing the police.

As Sam Bankman-Fried was taken away in handcuffs, some people who have been watching the implosion of FTX are wondering: Where's Caroline Ellison, his onetime girlfriend who ran his crypto hedge fund Alameda Research?
So far, legal watchers say US prosecutors and regulators have been tight-lipped: The criminal indictment made no mention of Ellison, and the SEC's civil complaint targeted just Bankman-Fried.
But in investigating what US Attorney Damian Williams called "one of the biggest financial frauds in American history," the government is almost certainly looking beyond Bankman-Fried, legal experts said.
"It would not surprise me if Ellison has already spoken with prosecutors,"

The midterm elections were closer than expected with Republicans seizing a slim majority in the House of Representatives and Democrats retaining narrow Senate control. That presents an opportunity for the GOP if it plays it right.
Although the widely anticipated “red wave” didn’t materialize, the political and economic situation is the same. The Biden administration has no effective plans to address record inflation or improve the economic outlook. Those fundamentals will continue to plague Biden and Washington Democrats, who appear to want to continue their progressive policies.
The shift in House control provides an opportunity for the business community and the House GOP to work together to chart a new course.

Still, it’s particularly disheartening when minor children, placed in peril by the Biden administration’s extralegal immigration and national transformation machine, are taken advantage of. To its credit, Reuters has been conducting real journalistic investigations into the growing problem of illegal child labor at U.S. factories. The news outlet conducted hundreds of interviews and documented several cases of third-world labor abuse. On Friday, Reuters reported on underage illegal aliens staffing auto parts factories across Alabama and into Georgia.

Does it take ace investigative skills and high-tech expertise to tell Twitter which posts to censor and which accounts to ban?
That's the underside of the Twitter Files, Part Six story from Matt Taibbi, about the FBI expending a lot of agents and a lot of time reading and seeking censorship of tweets and accounts, which was described well by Rajan Laad in his post today here.
According to Taibbi, these files revealed that the FBI had a "master-canine" relationship with Twitter, telling it which posts to censor and which accounts to take "action" on, and like dogs, the Twitter executives jumped to it.

My wife and I have become avid fans of American football. The Canadian game left us cold. Three-down football is a bore, the larger field resembles a soccer pitch, and the caliber of players is necessarily weaker than that of their American counterparts. Four-down football is far more interesting, eliminating the need for constant punt exchanges and allowing us to examine and enjoy the complexity of strategy, play adjustments, lots of audibles, and the evolution of play formation in general.
We have our favorite players and teams. I appreciate the toughness and camaraderie of the Tennessee Titans before their seemingly inexplicable run of losses.
