Huge aquarium bursts, housed 1,500 tropical fish

A massive aquarium inside the lobby of a posh Berlin hotel burst Friday morning, sending over 200,000 gallons of water and 1,500 tropical fish into the streets. At least two people were injured when the 52-foot-tall AquaDom aquarium exploded at the Radisson Blu hotel shortly before 6 a.m. local time, German police said. Three hundred guests were evacuated from the hotel by over 100 first responders. A video of the aftermath of the incident shows glass and other debris scattered through the lobby and out into the road.

Reminds me of that scene in “Mission Impossible” when Tom Cruise blew up the aquarium in the hotel in Prague, using that tricky chewing gum folded in half. Remember? “Hasta lasagna - don’t get any on ya!”

However ingenious and clever structural engineering is, there’s always a chance for disaster. I think about that whenever I visit these aquariums with the monstrous glass plates, keeping the fish and water contained. With the total mass of the fish and the weight of water, there’s huge pressure there.

I would bet it had something to do with the energy crisis in Europe. Some genius decided they could save energy by not heating the area surrounding the aquarium. The freezing temperature then could have caused the crack in the glass.

The article says glass laying around. All of the large aquariums that I am familiar with use acrylic plastic, also known as plexiglass, not glass. I wonder of someone did something to intentionally damage it? So many lunatic leftists these days with totally deranged ideas. Perhaps someone wanted to "free" the fish. Irrational behavior seems to be incredibly common these days that I always wonder about this sort of an "accident".

Oh boo hoo, the lobby got wet. I see precious little sympathy for the fish, who had to live their lives in slavery for the amusement of gawking humans, and then lose their lives in a tank that broke because the humans who built it had no real idea what they were doing. No animals, including fish, should be condemned to live in captivity. Are we so cruel that we still allow animals to suffer, be forced to perform in zoos, aquariums, roadside "attractions"? You live in your own natural habitat, yet you deny that comfort to animals?

True story. My fahter, who we called Unreasonable Chester, raised tropical fish as a side hustle when I was a baby. He put the aquariam in the warmest room in our house, which was my room, and he placed it it next to my crib. So a baby lakerman tossed his milk bottle into the aquarium, when he was about 6 months old. All of the fish ided. And Unreasonable Chester never stopped reminding the lakerman of his bad act. Even when the lakerman became a Ph.D. credentialed professor.

Trump roasts Electoral Count Act

Former President Donald Trump is, from the sounds of it, frustrated by the inclusion of the Electoral Count Act in the $1.7 trillion omnibus that’s currently being discussed. As previously reported, the Electoral Count Act would make it significantly harder for both Congress and the vice president to reject the results of an election. On Tuesday the former president posted a stream of thoughts — all of them mostly negative — to Truth Social about the bill. He started by complaining about how the bill would set in stone that the vice president may not unilaterally choose to certify or not certify the results of an election.

Congress is trying to cram through a mammoth $1.7 trillion government funding bill ahead of a nor'easter that could otherwise leave lawmakers snowed-in in Washington, D.C. over Christmas.  The 4,500 page bill is full of classic priorities: $858 billion for defense, $45 billion for Ukraine, $38 billion for emergency disasters and billions more for other social programs - but also includes some odd riders.  It's loaded with thousands of earmarks - funding for the pet projects of individual lawmakers sometimes in exchange for their vote. Earmarks were banned until Democrats brought them back last year. Republicans followed suit in their own conference.

House Republicans issued a scathing report Wednesday exposing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s key role in the catastrophic security and intelligence failures that left the US Capitol vulnerable to a violent attack on January 6, 2021. Days after Pelosi’s Jan. 6 select committee recommended insurrection charges against former president Donald Trump over the Capitol riot, Republicans have hit back with a counter-investigation apportioning blame for the internal security breakdown on Jan. 6 to Pelosi and a dysfunctional Capitol Police intelligence division. “Leadership and law enforcement failures within the U.S. Capitol left the complex vulnerable

The House Select Committee on January 6 is ending. It’ll be gone by the next Congress—and good riddance. The committee was probably slated to be the Democrats’ 2022 attack vehicle funded by the taxpayer to paint Trump and the Republican Party as too extreme for America. It failed because a) no one cared anymore about that little riot, b) Americans knew hyperbole when they saw it, and c) the economy was collapsing. Most Americans don’t care or have the time to worry about the trivial matters that consume rich white liberals with dread. With the economy in recession, the Left tried everything to put this committee’s work front and center,

We often despair that neither party represents the interests of fiscal discipline these days, or even competent and accountable governance. It’s clearly too much to ask that we get to a balanced budget, since we haven’t even seen one attempted in nearly 30 years — and even that used budgetary gimmicks. Without a constitutional amendment, Congress will never budget properly within the limits of national revenue, and without an Article V convention, we won’t get an amendment that requires it. As for competent and accountable governance, that will likely require an Article V convention as well.

The US military may get woker. A new report has advised the US Marine Corps to no longer use “gendered terms” such as “Yes Sir or Yes Ma’am”. The new academic report stemmed from research conducted by the University of Pittsburgh that was directly commissioned by the Marine Corps. The report claims the Marine Corps is behind other branches of the military when it comes to using gender identifiers. The report also states the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard have, for the most part, gotten rid of gender identifiers such as “Sir” and “Ma’am” but instead address drill instructors by their rank and last name.

The Republicans’ 141-page report explores at length the security measures taken leading up to the events of January 6, 2021, an issue they say the January 6 committee has “thus far ignored.” The report serves as a counter document to the select committee’s anticipated behemoth conclusive report, which is expected to come this week after the committee held a final public meeting Monday summarizing its investigation and announcing criminal and ethics referrals.

Why? Because they um, uh—because they want to? But wait, you say to yourself, that’s not possible; your tax returns are private by federal law, and therefore protected from release. The Dems of course found a sleazy way around that. The tax code allows the committee to look at people’s tax returns to provide “oversight” of the Internal Revenue Service, and by writing an official report on their findings,

The question in the title needs, I believe, critical examination. Why DOES the Left hate Trump so much? The answer, as usual, can largely be found by analyzing history. But first. Do they hate him because the average price of a gallon of gas in his administration was far lower than under Biden? Is it because inflation was low (around 2%) and trending downward? Is it that the USA was energy independent and didn’t need to beg our enemies for oil, deplete our strategic oil reserve or sell it to China? Is it because black and Hispanic unemployment was lower than at any time in history?
