The House Republican conference elected Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) on Wednesday to serve as their majority leader when the next session of Congress begins in January. Scalise was uncontested for the position, and the move would keep him as the No. 2 to current Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), assuming he becomes speaker of the House. McCarthy is facing a challenge from the more conservative wing of the GOP.

Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert is in one of the tightest races of the mid-term elections against Democrat challenger Adam Frisch to re-secure her seat in the US House, with only 60 votes separating them as of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The outspoken freshman lawmaker was trailing with 154,060 votes to Frisch’s 154,122 after 95% of expected ballots had been counted.
Frisch, who called himself a “conservative businessman” in a late-October news release aimed at securing Republican support in the red-leaning district, held just 0.02% more votes than Boebert.

This Is How Government Breeds Mistrust

Keeping faith with others is basic to civilization. A government filled with suspicion does not earn the goodwill and affection of its people. Rather, it becomes an enemy in their eyes. The people’s disaffection increases the leader’s own mistrust. And so it goes, around and around, mistrust deepening at every turn of the circuit. A good example is taxation. The American income tax system has depended to a large degree on the willingness of people to fund their own government.
Compare this to Italy in the ’80s, where distrust brought a very large percentage of the economy underground and off the books.
Nichelle Nichols, who played Lt. Nyota Uhura on the original "Star Trek," has died at the age of 89, her son Kyle Johnson announced on her official Facebook page. "Last night, my mother, Nichelle Nichols, succumbed to natural causes and passed away," Johnson's statement read. When Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently announced an end to some medical mandates and virus-related restrictions in the United Kingdom, I thought: "This is a victory for nation-states over unitary global government." The reason the prime minister turned a 180 on his country's COVID-1984 tyranny seems to be intricately linked to his own personal scandals involving the breaking of various lockdown, masking, and social gathering rules that form the crux of the U.K.'s totalitarian health regime. If Klaus Schwab, George Soros, Bill Gates, or Anthony Fauci had complete control over the queen's realm, you can bet that the mandates would never go away.
I was in college when the planes hit the towers, studying that Tuesday morning before class in the student union. The woman who ran the student snack bar and I were the only people there that morning, and together we watched the second plane hit on live TV. At that moment, my stomach dropped. The U.S. Capitol Police officer who fatally shot Ashli Babbitt on Jan. 6 during the insurrection was cleared Monday after an internal review concluded the action may have spared the lives of lawmakers and staffers who had barricaded themselves inside the building.

Faced with questions about his ability to lead after the midterm election debacle, a defiant Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell deflected blame from his own culpability in the Democrats retaining control of the upper chamber and instead blamed it on public dissatisfaction with MAGA candidates.

Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer made a fresh pitch for amnesty Wednesday when he claimed the U.S. is 'short of workers' so Congress needs to pass a 'path to citizenship' for 'however many undocumented there are here'.

Former first daughter Ivanka Trump said late Tuesday that she would play no part in her father’s 2024 presidential campaign, one day after The Post reported the former commander-in-chief had pleaded with her to be on stage with him when he announced his run.

Kevin Kiley (R-CA), former President Donald Trump’s choice in California’s third congressional district, defeated his Democrat opponent on Tuesday, securing the House majority for the Republican Party, according to a Decision Desk HQ projection one week after Election Day.

U.S. Sen. Patty Murray will likely be the first woman to serve as Senate president pro tempore, a position that would place her third in line for the presidency. Murray will also likely chair the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, controlling the federal purse strings and directing billions of dollars of spending.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer plans to nominate Murray, who was just elected to a sixth term, to the position, Murray’s office said Wednesday.
The Senate president pro tem presides over the Senate in the vice president’s absence. The position is third in line for the presidency, after the vice president and the House speaker.
