Amazon.com Inc is undertaking a review of its unprofitable businesses, including the devices unit that houses voice assistant Alexa, to cut costs, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, sending its shares up 11%. Following a months-long review, Amazon has told employees in some unprofitable units to look for jobs elsewhere in the company, while moving to redeploy staff from certain teams to more profitable areas and closing teams in areas such as robotics and retail, the WSJ reported. Amazon is closely evaluating its Alexa business and is currently considering whether it should focus

The taxpayer gravy train must be running out. I got rid of Alexa years ago when she kept inserting herself in my business. Just bought an electronic devise, got a message from Alexia that she was waiting for me to connect said device, so she's lurking out there somewhere. I know I should have smashed her to pieces.

Once I read that Alexa was randomly listening to conversations in my house, I unplugged it and toss it in the trash. I don't miss it. I do like Amazon's blink cameras, but only use them on the outside perimeter of my house. They're wireless and easy to install and program. The batteries last for a couple of years. I'll never have one inside, though. I don't trust them.

I use my Alexa daily, listening to music, helping me find my phone when I lay something on top of it. Notifying me when a package has been delivered. No one but me and the dust bunnies to listen in on, so I'm not so much concerned about that.

As Nicole threatens the Carolinas and Virginia on Friday with tornadoes and flooding, Floridians -- many still recovering from Hurricane Ian -- are picking up the pieces after this week's storm killed at least five people and ripped apart buildings with its dangerous storm surge and powerful winds. In Volusia County, Florida, at least 49 beachfront properties, including hotels and condos, have been deemed "unsafe" in the aftermath of Nicole, which hit Florida's eastern coast south of Vero Beach as a Category 1 hurricane early Thursday before weakening into a tropical storm and eventually becoming a post-tropical cyclone Friday afternoon. "The structural damage along our coastline is unprecedented,"

Control of the Senate still hung in the balance on Friday, forcing Senate Republicans to briefly put aside their intraparty blame game as they go all-in on winning Georgia’s Senate runoff. The Senate majority could be decided in the coming days if Democrats defend the seats they hold in both Arizona and Nevada, where votes continue to be counted. But if the GOP picks up just one of those seats, Senate control will be determined by a Dec. 6 runoff election in the Peach State. GOP operatives continued to express optimism about the party’s chances of picking up a seat in Nevada

The Biden administration has stopped taking applications for its student debt forgiveness program, citing a Thursday ruling from a federal judge in Texas that declared the program "unlawful." On Friday, the Department of Education's student debt relief website displayed a message informing borrowers that "student loan debt relief is blocked." It added, "Courts have issued orders blocking our student debt relief program. As a result, at this time, we are not accepting applications. We are seeking to overturn those orders." The Education Department said it will hold the applications for the roughly 26 million people who have already applied for forgiveness.

Former President Donald Trump has sued the House select committee investigating January 6, 2021, as a way to challenge its subpoena for documents and his testimony, according to filings in a federal court in Florida. Trump is challenging both the legitimacy of the committee -- which multiple courts have upheld -- and is claiming he should be immune from testimony about the time he was president. Trump's lawyers say they've communicated with the House over the past week and a half as the subpoena deadlines neared, offering to consider answering written questions while expressing "concerns and objections"

Phoenix - Incumbent Democrat Mark Kelly defeated Republican Blake Masters on Friday to win a U.S. Senate seat in Arizona, a contest that left Democrats one seat short in the battle for control of the chamber with two more races to be decided. The win by Kelly, a former astronaut whose wife, Gabby Giffords, survived an assassination attempt when she was a U.S. lawmaker, meant Democrats had battled to a 49-49 tie in the race for the Senate. "I'm humbled by the trust our state has placed in me to continue this work," Kelly said on Twitter. Control of the Senate - and the shape of President

It should be clear by this time that popularity has nothing to do with electability. Trump filled rally after rally in state after state with countless, full-house, full-stadium crowds, and such numbers do not lie. There really was a red wave in the midterms, but it was macro-engineered to a trickle, as should have been expected. The scam of “malfunctioning” voting machines, the shortage of paper ballots, the tsunami of mail-in and late ballots, the temporary closing and slow-downs of polling stations, and so on would have been sufficient to determine an electoral result. 2020 was an early run for 2022,

The Climate Gender Equity Fund will “leverage private sector contributions to help provide women climate leaders with technical skills, networks, and capital to develop and scale climate solutions,” according to a White House statement. The program will have initial seed funding of $6 million, with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) matching e-commerce giant Amazon’s $3 million investment.

The Fox News Decision Desk can project that Democratic Senator Mark Kelly has won re-election in Arizona. He defeats Republican challenger Blake Masters. Kelly, a former NASA astronaut, was seeking a full term as Senator of Arizona in the 2022 race, after winning the 2020 race against Martha McSally, the Republican who was serving the rest of John McCain's term after he passed away while in office. Throughout the election cycle, the race was under the national spotlight, being one of the best pickup opportunities for Senate Republicans this year.

The victory for Lombardo, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, puts a Republican back in the top job in the pivotal presidential battleground state and could have major implications on the future of education and criminal justice in the swing state. His projected win comes after days of delays in the processing of ballots in Clark County, the largest county in the state and the one that includes Las Vegas.
