Will Elon Musk Save the First Amendment?

Original Article

Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter was finalized last Friday, and the world’s richest man confirmed his reason for doing so: “I acquired Twitter because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence.” Musk is reacting to Twitter’s blatantly politicized censorship and bullying of conservatives and others who publicize opinions that challenge or expose progressive Democrats’ orthodoxy. Here’s hoping that Musk keeps his nerve and reforms Twitter by purging its staff and policies that arrogantly run rough-shod over the First Amendment, based on their delusional belief

Washington D.C. to Legalize Public Urination 4 replies

When your whole city’s a toilet, why not embrace it? The D.C. Council is expected to take the first of two votes Tuesday on a massive rewrite of its criminal code. If passed, the bill would eliminate most mandatory minimum sentences, allow for jury trials in almost all misdemeanor cases and reduce the maximum penalties for offenses such as burglaries, carjackings and robberies. Assume that there’ll be a lot more burglaries, carjackings and robberies. Not to mention public urination. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Robert Contee III are pushing back hard on parts of the plan they don’t agree with, and say the council is rushing to beat an arbitrary deadline.

Nineteen-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg is at it again, scolding world leaders, predicting imminent doom for the planet and mankind, and shaming people who use too much energy. This time, however, she’s taking a more radical tone, calling for fundamental change in the way humans lead our lives. On Sunday, while promoting her new tome, “The Climate Book,” a collection of essays by over 100 climate experts at the London Literature Festival at the Southbank Centre, she said: (Snip) Wait, I thought this was a speech about climate change, not a massive condemnation of the entire history of mankind and capitalism. We've all heard of the game "Where's Waldo?" Well, I've got a better question. As we look upon the hordes of federal parasites dedicated public servants, where's Pete? We're seeing the convergence of some dangerous circumstances — a perfect storm, if you will. But it's not a convergence of weather patterns, but problems with the transportation infrastructure. Yet Pete (Buttigieg) is nowhere to be found — at least not anywhere near the problems he's supposed to prevent. Loaded ships are still waiting off the coast of California because there aren't enough trucks that meet the state's emission standards to unload them —

Hold on a second. Is New Hampshire actually in play for Republicans on November 8th? That’s the story from a stunning new poll that shows that Don Bolduc is leading Democrat incumbent Sen. Maggie Hassan. Bolduc, a Donald Trump-endorsed candidate, was left for dead after winning the primary, with the assumption being that his negatives were too high and that he couldn’t draw support in a blue state. His fundraising was lackluster, and the national groups have been spending their finite resources in more “competitive” states. Recently, though, it was revealed that Republicans were going back into New Hampshire to make last-minute ad buys for Bolduc,

In 1992, Ross Perot, who ran as a third-party candidate, stripped votes away from George S. Bush and essentially handed Bill Clinton the White House. Eight years later, Ralph Nader siphoned votes from Al Gore, handing the White House to George W. Bush. In other words, third-party candidates don’t often win. Instead, they split the vote of the party to which they are ideologically closest. In the Senate battle in Arizona between the hard-left Mark Kelly and the Trump-endorsed Blake Masters, Marc Victor’s libertarian spot on the ticket was going to hurt Masters. So, Victor withdrew and endorsed Masters. In the rough and tumble, and very expensive, world of American

Donald Trump has been a consistent target of the left for one silly reason or another — either to thwart his political ambitions or as part of a money grab. Now, Hillary Clinton, who paid for the bogus dossier that was used to justify the Obama administration spying on his campaign, wants some of the action. Hillary is reportedly demanding that Trump pay roughly $1 million in legal fees following his unsuccessful lawsuit against her for alleged racketeering — which Hillary’s lawyers called a “political stunt.” On Monday, attorneys for the twice-failed presidential candidate filed a motion in federal court

Their candidates are imploding, and the issues are arrayed against them, so Democrats are getting desperate in the final days before the midterm elections. Polls are trending in the direction of Republicans after horrible debate performances from Democratic candidates such as U.S. Senate hopeful John Fetterman in Pennsylvania. Democrats lied about Joe Biden's mental condition, so it is not a surprise that they would lie about Fetterman’s ability to manage a U.S. Senator’s job responsibilities. Thus, Democrats maintained that Fetterman was recovering nicely from his stroke and could be an effective Senator. This falsehood was exposed during the Oz-Fetterman debate

The polls and early voting numbers have been looking really good for Republicans in Georgia. Gov. Brian Kemp has an easy path to re-election, and the GOP has momentum in other races — including a surprisingly good chance in a congressional district that hasn’t elected a Republican since 1875. One of the key races that the nation is watching is the Senate race between incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) and football legend Herschel Walker. Early on in the campaign, Walker earned the label of a “bad candidate,” and his campaign made some missteps early on. He shook up his campaign and started to gain ground. As the election nears,

Surveys often demonstrate Democrats do not know how right-leaning voters think. The repeated “October surprises” launched against Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker are an excellent example of this phenomenon. In recent weeks, two women have come forward to allege that Walker insisted they receive abortions. Walker campaigned on a pro-life platform this cycle and denied both claims. As a pro-life voter in Georgia, there are several reasons why I couldn’t care less about these claims. First, Walker committed to pro-life positions if Georgia elects him to the Senate. Should he fail to follow through, voters can hold him accountable next election. This situation is obviously

Mandela Barnes, the Wisconsin Democratic Senate candidate, said in 2015 that he believes "oil is destroying the world"—an apocalyptic claim that conflicts with his more recent campaign promise to try to make gas more affordable for consumers. "Oil is destroying the world in every possible way," Barnes, Wisconsin's lieutenant governor, said on Twitter in 2015. The remark is the latest evidence of Barnes's extreme opposition to domestic energy production, which he has attempted to soften on the campaign trail. The news comes as Democratic leaders have struggled with political fallout from rising energy prices, after years of demonizing and blocking domestic oil and gas projects. Since launching his campaign,

Everybody was stunned on Friday morning when news broke that the 82 year old husband of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi had been assaulted inside of his home early in the morning with a hammer. The shock and awe grew after it seemed to become clear that the assailant was looking for the Speaker of the House herself - the third in line to the Presidency. An assailant broke into the home and asked "Where's Nancy? Where's Nancy?”, according to NBC in the Bay Area. San Francisco police Chief Bill Scott called it an “intentional” attack: "This was not a random attack. This was intentional. And it's wrong.

Republicans privately expect Attorney General Merrick Garland to indict former President Donald Trump between 60 and 90 days after the midterm elections, according to a report on Monday. GOP aides on Capitol Hill and former strategists said they do not have insider knowledge about an indictment on Trump, but they claim that a deadline to indict the former president is quickly approaching and Garland is facing heat from Democrats to act fast. However, indicting Trump could have negative consequences for Democrats, some aides suggested.

Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan suggested that gender-neutral admission processes could give “white men” an advantage over people who have been “kicked in the teeth” during an oral argument Monday on a pair of lawsuits deciding whether affirmative action within Harvard University and the University of North Carolina (UNC) is constitutional. During the oral argument for Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard, Kagan suggested to Patrick Strawbridge, who is representing Students for Fair Admissions, that higher education institutions that use gender-neutral policies lead to unequal outcomes for men at universities. Kagan noted that “white men” could get a “thumb on the scale” in university admissions if educational

But I think that she is a tremendous leader," Cheney said at the City Club in Cleveland with PBS’s Judy Woodruff. "I’ve watched her up close.
