Democrats scramble to avert shock Senate
loss in Washington state

Democrats are adding millions in television spending to boost Sen. Patty Murray, a sign that the party is employing a take-no-chances approach even in solidly blue Washington state. The 30-year veteran of the Senate is facing a challenge from Republican Tiffany Smiley, a political newcomer whose campaign has seized on quality-of-life issues, from urban crime and homelessness to inflation, to tarnish Murray. In recent public polling, Smiley has closed a sizable gap since this summer, when Murray led by 18 percentage points in an 18-candidate, all-party primary. A Seattle Times poll released last week showed Murray slipping slightly, from 51 percent in a July survey to 49 percent now

I got an idea for a Smiley ad. "Patty Murray says "don't be fooled" by voting for me. Heck, you've been fooled for 30 yeas by Patty Murray, Don't get fooled again." I'm Tiffany Smiley and I approved this message. Vote for me for the US Senate.

I can't imagine that Murray will lose, but it's still nice to be able to force Dems to spend tons of money defending what should be an easy win. That is money that can't be spent in swing states. Even if we lose Washington, it's still a win.

All the ads I've seen lately in Washington are Democrats saying how "extreme" the Republican candidates are. Democrats are pushing abortion as the number one issue. Frankly, I'm pro-life so all the ads are endorsements for Republicans and strengthen my resolve to vote Republican.

#4 is right on. I'm old enough to remember when Patty Murray first won election. They held recount after recount in King County - each time the Republican was ahead - until they found enough votes for Patty. Then the press called the election and denounced her opponent as a sore loser. Sound familiar?

FTA: “Washington state is not a purple state. It is not a marginal state. It is a deep-blue state. To be having this conversation is a bad omen for Democrats,” he said. If D'Rats are having problems in Washington then the purple state should be a sinch I don't trust the vot counting in PA (philly) or AZ (Maricopa County) or GA (Fulton County). I've said it before FL was purple until DeSantis fired everyone that worked for the Dade & Palm Beach County election commision and replace them with honest vote counters. All of a sudden FL is a red state. It happens when you get rid of urban fraud. (Chicago model)

Mortgage rates reached a 20-year high on Thursday, passing 7 percent for the first time since April 2002, Freddie Mac reported. The news comes as rapidly-increasing borrowing costs continue to shut out many first-time borrowers and slow the U.S. housing market. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, the most popular among Americans, rose to 7.08 percent on Thursday, up from 6.94 percent last week, Freddie Mac reported. A year ago, a 30-year mortgage averaged 3.14 percent. A 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.36 percent on Thursday, up from 6.23 percent last week, and up from 2.37 percent a year ago.
