A German energy company is dismantling a wind farm to allow for an adjacent coal mine to expand its operations, officials said.
The German coal mine Garzweiler, operated by energy company RWE, admits the situation appears to be "paradoxical" — sacrificing one energy source for another — but defended the decision as necessary to strengthen supplies amid the ongoing energy crisis, Oilprice.com reported.
"We realize this comes across as paradoxical," RWE spokesperson Guido Steffen said in a statement. "But that is as matters stand."

Maybe if we just vandalize more paintings, RWE will reverse its decision.

The Germans are slowly realizing that its time to put away the toys and bring back tried & true methods. If the Greenies don't like it, then throw nuclear energy in their face. No carbon emissions at all.

Just to illustrate their firmly held beliefs, the greenie morons should ONLY use wind or solar to heat their own homes this winter. No cheating now.

"Paradoxical" is not the word you want here. "Revealing" is the proper word. You are revealed as phonies, liars and scammers. And if the german people weren't threatening to come after you in a pitchfork brigade you wouldn't be doing this.
But what about Joe-eee! We are squelching domestic production, which is the cleanest on Earth, so GE can trade solar for coal??
Wake. Up.

Wind mills are REALLY GOOD for pumping water on single farms. That's pretty much it.

Re #19, yes, because the power required is low, and the fact that it is intermittent is fine, since water is easily stored up in times when it is windy. And a no wind period for several days isn't a problem with a good sized water tank, and yet, for home electricity, such storage isn't being even attempted by the utilities, and if it were done, would be VERY expensive .....think several EV batteries worth to keep a home working over a few days without the wind.
A water tank is inexpensive and essentially never catches fire. Grin.

Don't be too easy on windmills, #23. I grew up depending on windmill for water for my parents and a sister along with livestock. That water storage only last so long, and no wind days sometimes last for quite a long streak in summer. It was a HUGE deal when my dad installed a pumpjack running on electricity for the days with no wind.

Buried in the last lines...The windmills in question are all over 20years old, terribly inefficient in comparison to modern versions, and fast approaching their retirement dates anyway.
This Coal Mine was an "Early adopter", built and installed these wind towers at their own expense long before there were govt subsidies to do so and thus their use, problems, issues served as a test bed to build ever better versions.

Thanks for the real world clarification, #24. I've only seen the livestock drinking at tanks and talked with an uncle who ran cattle west of Albequerque for years, and he spoke of maintaining his windmills for cattle in very dry country. I have not had to live on windmill water.

The Germans should get a choice this winter. They can sign up for heating via fossil fuels or heating via green energy. Everyone wins.

Sometimes reality hits you like a load of bricks. The Germans have found out that fossil fuels like coal and natural gas will always be needed until dependable and reliable alternate sources of energy are developed. While that may include wind and solar power in the future, the Germans (and other European countries) have jumped the gun and gotten rid of their reliable energy sources for their unicorn fantasy of green energy taking the place of everything else before the new sources were actually able to handle the demand. Reality sucks. Being cold an without power sucks even more.
