House Democrats retrench as GOP money
floods the map

GOP Rep. Mike Garcia holds one of House Republicans’ most vulnerable districts. But Democrats have barely spent a dime on TV to take him down. The decision, according to those involved, was driven by a relative lack of resources: As Republicans’ biggest House super PAC floods the election with hundreds of millions of dollars, their Democratic counterparts have lagged far behind. Some members of the California Democratic delegation were alarmed by the decision to leave Garcia’s district untouched — and they have urged their party’s campaign arm in recent weeks not to abandon a seat that President Joe Biden won by double digits, according to multiple people familiar with the discussions.

The DCCC has also pulled all its money out of TX-15, where Monica de la Cruz (R) is going to win an open seat as my Congresscritter. Her opponent, Michelle Vallejo (D), makes AOC look like a member of the John Birch Society. The incumbent, Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-McAllen, switched to TX-34 thinking it would be a cake walk. But Rep. Mayra Flores may end up keeping her seat she won in a special election. While Mayra is a great candidate, that would be a big loss for the Democrats -- and self inflicted as well. If the previous congresscritter, who announced that he wasn't going to run in 2022, had stayed on until 2023, I'd have bet all the grocery money on Vicente. But no, the RAT had to cash out and start working as a lobbyist early. So there had to be a special election for the seat. Since Vincente was ALREADY in Congress, he couldn't run for the post. The Republicans, and Mrs. Flores wisely thought winning the special election would put them in a place to win in November. And right now, an easy win for the Democrats has become a toss-up! Sounds like we Republicans in South Texas are in for a two-fer. And I wouldn't count out TX-28 (Laredo) either for the trifecta. If anyone, even two or four years ago had said that in 2022, we could have three Hispanic female Republicans in Congress along the lower Texas Rio Grande border, I would have checked if the cigarettes they were smoking came in packs other than 20 and probably reached out to local mental health professionals for assistance. But then again, one of the very interesting things of the 2020 election happened in a small county along the Texas-Mexico border (Zapata County, between Mc Allen and Laredo). In 2016,. Hillary Clinton won that county by a 60% margin [not 60-40, I'm talking 80-20]. In 2020, Trump won it by 5 percentage points!

The article mentions several times "districts Biden won". Well, maybe Biden didn't actually win those districts fairly. Imagine that.....

Article read like a lament that the Dems couldn't do better to protect their majority and prevent Repubs from going after Biden should they win the house in November. Politico sounds like a democrat news organization - similar to WaPo or the NYT.

Dumb as they are, even dem congress members aren't willing to waste $$$'s on lost causes. That premise is clearly proven in the article --- DCCC members aren't paying their full party dues to help save the majority..... Dems are twisted, amoral and sociopathic and they're more than willing to waste OUR hard-earned tax $$$'s but they're not about to squander their donated-by-the-dumb campaign $$$'s to help a helpless cause.

Sounds like they're trying to provide early excuses, rationalization and justification for the expected loss of the House. My hunch, they are looking to save those safer districts which enables them to put one of more out there for the TV folks to say the most outrageous things about Republicans. Also, in some states where abortion is legal, it's not the issue it once was for Democrats to exploit (fool people into thinking something might happen even though it won't). Thought they're trying to use it as an issue for the Katie Porter seat in Irvine. Abortion is legal in CA, just up-to viability, but trying to fool people into thinking her opponent's Federal House seat might change existing California law, which it can't.

Why spend money you don’t have when you can just flip a switch on a voting machine or pull a bag of illegal ballots from under a table and win anyway. The GOP will never bother to challenge you any way.

Igor Danchenko, a primary contributor to the Trump-Russia dossier, has been acquitted of lying to the FBI regarding his sources for some claims in the document in a loss for special counsel John Durham. The jury declared the source, an analyst who compiled the bulk of the dossier drafted by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele and which alleged collusion between former president Trump’s 2016 campaign and Moscow, not guilty on all four charges. Danchenko was accused of having made false statements regarding the sources of some information that he provided to a U.K. investigative firm in 2017 that was later passed to the FBI. Durham

President Biden is expected to pledge during a Tuesday night speech that his top legislative priority after the midterms will be codifying a national right to abortion, should the Democratic Party retain control of the House and expand its Senate footprint. During his remarks at the Howard Theater in Washington, D.C. Tuesday night, Biden is expected to pledge that the first bill he will send to legislators in a new Democratic Congress will codify Roe v. Wade, the New York Times first reported. The move is intended to galvanize his support among Democratic and independent women as his polling numbers slump ahead of November’s midterm elections. President Biden pressured Democratic El Paso mayor Oscar Leeser to avoid declaring a state of emergency over the influx of illegal immigrants arriving daily, despite several members of the local city council urging otherwise, the New York Post reports. One councilwoman, Claudia Rodriguez, told the Post that Leeser “told me the White House asked him not to” declare a state of emergency for fear it would make Biden look bad. These sentiments were echoed by fellow Representative Veronica Escobar (D., Texas). during a September 27 council meeting. “The White House has asked, at this point, for us not to do that and they’ll continue to work with us and continue

Dictator Xi Jinping opened the 20th Chinese Communist Party National Congress on Sunday with a “report” to the Central Committee, which he nominally serves, that claimed China has ascended to global leadership in economics, diplomacy, clean government, and military power. Xi’s address was triumphant as expected, with little concern for how it might sound to a world still coping with fallout from the coronavirus pandemic China unleashed. The pandemic was old news for Xi, who had no interest in conceding the smallest error in how China handled the crisis.Instead, Xi’s theme was China’s overwhelming success at creating a “modern socialist country”

I’ll bet they are. The problem for Democrats, however, won’t just revolve around their deeply unpopular Demagogue in Chief and the albatross he’s hung around their necks. After the smoke from the midterm referendum on Joe Biden clears, the party will have the same problem they had in 2020, 2016, and every midterm in the past dozen years except 2018. Keep that in mind when reading The Hill’s report on “contingency plans” already being considered even before the election results come in: Democrats behind the scenes are already talking about and making contingency plans for 2024 in case President Biden decides not to seek a second term, moves expected to intensify

Researchers at Boston University say they have developed a new COVID strain that has an 80% kill rate following a series of similar experiments first thought to have started the global pandemic that began in China. The variant, a combination of Omicron and the original virus in Wuhan, killed 80% of the mice infected with it, the university said. When mice were only exposed to Omicron, they experienced mild symptoms. The research was conducted by a team of scientists from Florida and Boston at the school's National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories. They extracted the spike protein from Omicron and attached it with the strain first detected at the onset

This tour stop was in the city of Coral Springs at Wings Plus, a fixture in the area, owned by Brian Walsh, a longtime Republican backer. Researchers with Boston University have developed a strain of COVID-19 that killed 80 percent of mice infected with it, according to a preprint study released last week, prompting concern and condemnation. The team of researchers extracted the Omicron variant’s spike protein, which they noted has “an unusually large number of mutations.” The researchers then attached Omicron’s spike protein, which is a structure that allows a virus to bind and invade human cells, to the original Wuhan COVID-19 variant that reportedly emerged in late 2019. They dubbed it “Omicron S.”
