Detroit—The National Transportation Safety Board is recommending that all new vehicles in the U.S. be equipped with blood alcohol monitoring systems that can stop an intoxicated person from driving. The recommendation, if enacted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, could reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes, one of the biggest causes of highway deaths in the U.S.(Snip)The recommendation also calls for systems to monitor a driver’s behavior, making sure they’re alert. She said many cars now have cameras pointed at the driver, which have the potential to limit impaired driving. But Homendy says she also understands that perfecting the alcohol tests will take time.

First of all this is a clear case of guilty until proven innocent which is illegal. Second, will they check marijuana intoxication before a car will start?

Soooo…the Government is worried about vehicle deaths but don’t seem at all concerned about fentanyl deaths. Fentanyl deaths must not be as deadly.

As long as they don't start monitoring the drivers' political behavior. Remember J6 before you laugh!

And let's check if you ate too much sugar or drank too much soda, or didn't exercise enough this week, or voted wrong before the car starts.

But, but, but, I thought all cars had to be self-driving electric cars by 2035!!! If the car drives itself, what does this do other than add another $10,000 to the price?!?!?!?

Our private property will soon be surveiling it’s owners on behalf of MADD and government. Hey, Siri, is Alexa listening to my conversations?

You can buy a car stereo for a couple of c notes and pay a maybe the same for a nice install. But include the stereo on your new electric car and the price goes up $1500. The extra speakers and knobs from the dealer's model doesn't come near to covering the difference in price
So now comes a mandatory piece of specialized electronic wizardry; I wonder what that's going to wind up costing us ingrates?.

Follow the money. Breath tubes need to be replaced often. These machines require constant testing while driving. How many millions will go to the manufacturers? And simply, what about that pesky 4th Amendment?

No. Innocent people are protected by the 4th amendment against unreasonable search and seizures. I realize the Democrats don't support the constitution, and the courts say we don't have "standing".

I remember reading, in our local paper a year ago or so, of a youngster blowing into an alcohol monitoring system for their father, who was drunk. No system will work properly if one is determined to bypass it.

I firmly believe that more fatalities in automobile accidents are caused by drivers texting/using their cell phones. How will they combat that?

You are right #17
Not that I don't want drunk drivers off the road but this would be a violation of the 4th amendment,
However in typical Democrat fashion they will likely coerce auto manufactures to do on their own accord instead of government mandate circumventing the 4th.

Another Big Brother policy we will have to pay for by higher car prices. Another electronic device on a car that will break and be costly to repair. People will make money on ways to rig it to stop working.

What about something to test for someone who is high on dope?
People who STAY HOME and use drugs will do that no matter what, but when they get behind the wheel and are IMPAIRED, then it IS my business!
