The House on Wednesday passed a bill to reform the Electoral Count Act in ways Liz Cheney and other proponents say would clarify that the vice president's role in counting electoral votes is purely ceremonial, and is meant to head off future efforts to try to overturn election results.
It cleared the chamber on a mostly party-line vote, 229-203, with nine Republicans joining all Democrats to vote for it, even as Republican leaders 'whipped' against the bill.
'This bill will prevent Congress from illegally choosing the president itself,' said Cheney (R-Wyo.), who coauthored the bill with Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren (Calif.),

If it’s illegal, why do you need to pass a law to make it illegal?
Cheney wants the $oros state AG’s choosing the president.

An additional comment. Okay, so they don't want anything like J6 to happen again. Let's say they won fairly and no cheating was involved. 81 million people voted for Joe Biden according to the numbers. This administration is what they voted for? Yes, I am deeply concerned about this administration but more so with the 81 million.

As usual the left makes rules without thinking about the consequences.
I fully expected than when Trump or whomever R wins in 2024 they'd have Camela use her powers as VP to throw a wrench in the works to help over turn their loss but they just cut off that option. Tightening up election laws is always bad for them.
Silly rabbits.

I don’t believe the democrat party does anything that’s pure goodness for the people. I really don’t. They do things to either to strengthen their party, or that which hurts the Republican Party. They are always scheming. They are not a force for good. IMO.

If the democrats and Cheney passed it you can be one hundred percent sure that it's not in the best interests of the voters. Communism is another step closer.

We keep harping on 81 million votes. But no matter how many votes have been reported in Joe Dementia's name there is widespread, independent and unassailable 'evidence' (not technically so as no court has dared to order adjudication and discovery) in multiple states - Georgia (16), Wisconsin (11), Arizona (11), Pennsylvania (20), Michigan (16) to make the 2020 election a Trump landslide, which it was until midnight Nov 3, when five of the above states suddenly suspended counting simultaneously. We have been had. And now our intelligence is being egregiously insulted by calling J6 an 'insurrection' and a threat to Democracy. That is the central fact that should be in front of you as you go to the polls. This is above abortion or inflation.

Haven't read the text of the bill, which I imagine, no one in Congress has either. I imagine there are landmines buried within the text. The bill is not necessary just overkill.

Who is harping on 81 million votes? I am just repeating what has been told to the public and what Democrats insist on that happened. I am just going by their facts. The reality of it is that we ended up with an administration that does not know what they are doing. People voted for that. . .
My point is that we need to start educating the people. I just read info about the founding of the Republican party. Quite interesting. Founded in 1854 and used to be the Whig party. The Whig party was part of the movement to abolish slavery.
We really need to get Ronna McDaniel out as the RNC chairperson. She is very ineffective.

Can't wait to see what a lame duck House and Senate will pass if Republicans take both chambers this year. They will have until January to push anything they like and the WH puppet will sign off on all of it. And there is no guarantee at all that the new congress will do anything to reverse any of it especially if the current GOP leadership carries over into the next session.

From what I understand. The VP's role in elections is to sign off on the state's legislature certification of election results for each state which is then presented to Congress. Therein lies the problem about Pence. Pence signed off on the certification on PA's election results that were NOT certified by the state legislature but were certified by the Pennsylvania supreme court. Pence should have refused the certification and sent it back to PA's legislature to certify.

The focus needs to be on those five states #14 lists that had apparent voting/counting fraud, with REPUBLICAN LEGISLATURES who effectively did NOTHING to ensure a true vote before the state's electors were certified. The courts are NOT the place to investigate, nor have they any business involved. Some may recall the litany of reminders that legislatures are the Constitutional arbiters of Presidential elections. They failed, not the Electoral College.
The basic problem since 2000 (Dubya vs Gore) is that nearly every election has been marred with complaints by the losers of "fix" or "cheating" illegitimizing the results. Both sides have "proof" of their claims. Our elections are now seen as crooked by 75 percent of voters...imagine that. If education is needed, then let's get to the facts.

More election rule changes by the Democrats that are not in the favor of Republicans, but some Republicans will vote for it. We are 46 days from a general election. Why would Republicans vote for any Democrat legislation?

The law does not make something that WAS legal into something that is now ILLEGAL.
It clarifies the language to make it obvious so right-wing clowns won't think that at any point in time going forward that the sitting Vice President can single-handedly decide that an election is not valid.
Folks, nobody here is more conservative than me, but the idea that Pence could control the outcome of the 2020 election is patently absurd. Anyone who was hanging their hat on the idea that the Constitution ever made such a cutout for a dictatorial procedure was being played.
That idea was a fiction. And it made many our side look like a bunch of rubes.

No #23 - not every election has been marred by the losers complaining about fraud. I don't recall Republicans complaining about Obama winning in 2008. Or Clinton in 1992 (well many did blame Ross Perot's third party run). It's the Dems who keep complaining when they lose legitimately - see 2016. Rep. Jamie Raskins (D-MD) has opposed every election in which a republican wins. And Rep Green (D-TX) was already filing impeachment articles against Trump right after he won.

We know the 9 House members that voted for this travesty. I want to know the 10 Senators who are waiting in line to destroy even further the electoral process in America. We can name a few right now starting with McConnell who, if against his will, the Senate changes to Republican hands, needs to be voted out of any kind of leadership position. Gone! Why do Republicans always, ALWAYS do this? What is wrong with these people? Imagine if this was a Republican led initiative how many democrats would "cross the aisle" and vote for it? We know the answer to that as well ZERO! Sick to death of these low life republicans.
