Railroads and labor unions worked through the weekend to make a deal. There were little signs of progress, and rail companies are now taking steps Monday to secure shipments of hazardous and security-sensitive materials "in light of the possibility of a rail labor strike," the Association of American Railroads (AAR) wrote in a statement. On Sunday, Norfolk Southern released a statement detailing it had "begun enacting its contingency plans for a controlled shut down of our network at 00:01 on Friday, Sept. 16." The railroad said two labor unions are holding out on new contracts, "we still do not have a commitment not to strike and must act accordingly,"

Never Fear...Pothole Pete has the situation well in hand. He'll be there right after he deals with the Trucking Crisis, the Airline Crisis and the Supply Chain Crisis. All of THAT will be taken care of right after he roots out some more of those racist roads and viaducts. As an aside...If certain roads were constructed, specifically to keep black and brown kids from getting to the beaches, why didn't their bus drivers simply follow the buses with the white kids onboard? Or...is he saying that Black and Brown drivers are too stupid to figure that out?

with high fuel prices and logistics problems it is an ideal situation for a transportation strike. who didn't see this coming? dims are either too stupid or too evil to govern.I reckon the RR worker unions didn't get their fair share of the inflation reduction money. One way or another, high prices are going higher. what a great government! A testimony to diversity!!

Don’t worry, Pistol Pete will personally nurse the railroad industry back to health/s. Unfortunately he will need three weeks maternity leave to complete the job.

Trains would be very easy to entirely automate, far, far easier than automobiles or aircraft. Watch out train drivers....you could make yourselves disappear. Trains run on a predetermined route, don't even have the possibility of up-down or right-left controls, only faster-slower. And they have little or no interaction with other 'traffic', all taken care of by a central control office which sets switches, stops trains on sidings to let others pass, and controls speeds to keep a train behind another from getting too close to the one in front. IDEAL for centralized control and no human on board. Don't push too hard folks, you CAN be replaced.

Europe’s wishful thinking in going green has landed it in hot water — or maybe cold water, since it’s now short on energy for heating. And that’s got Germany reversing course. Leaders there last week said they now plan to keep the country’s last three nuclear plants running, at least temporarily, to avoid having to divert natural gas for electricity. That pauses a years-long march away from nuclear power that’s backed by much of the German public (even though nuclear-energy production emits virtually no greenhouse gases).
