I’m pretty surprised to see this today. Just a few days ago I was very critical of the Washington Post for becoming the “goth teen of national newspapers” for its fixation on the death of democracy and today the editorial board has published something criticizing the tone and content of Joe Biden’s speech last night. They editorial opens by saying they agree with the idea democracy is under assault but quickly pivot to why Biden’s speech did a terrible job of addressing those concerns.
The difficult, perhaps insurmountable, challenge that Mr. Biden confronted — just eight weeks before midterm elections that will determine the future course of his presidency

Mandated vaccines, open borders, rampant inflation, loan forgiveness, and now urging violence against anyone who supported Trump. This is massive overplaying of their hand, even for Dems. I expect Dems to lose both houses of Congress.

The enemedia is only voicing opposition because the rant was such an epic fail by an old senile fool. They picked the wrong duo to invest in for the election theft. They thought they could control them, but they didn't realize that you can't fix stupid. Who biden and kamala are oozes out of them, and people don't like them. Nobody liked biden before he was VP even; heck the dem party didn't even want him as their nominee. And, everybody knows his wife-thang walked him out because he would have done something stupid like walk into the audience and ask somebody where he was or what was next. What more can you expect from someone who was not elected and did not receive 81 million votes. Our side needs to stop using 74 million MAGA people that he's talking about. The number that biden is referencing is way higher, just like his 81 million is waaaay lower.

I give those unfortunate Marines who pulled that
guard duty great respect for not checking their wrist watches during Biden's rant.

The future course of the Biden presidency has already been determined and it will not change. He is a skydiver whose chute will not open and he his plummeting at an ever-increasing velocity toward the ground. The only possible outcome is the crash, which nobody can prevent.

FTA, quoting the WaPo editorial: "The difficult, perhaps insurmountable, challenge ...(i)s how to convey the message of defending democracy in a way that summons patriotism rather than partisanship."
Let's understand the use of the term "democracy". It is the foundational principle for our Republic, which is the FORM of government we have. (Republics need not be democratic, as the old USSR well illustrates, or that People's Republic of China and elsewhere.) The public ELECTS representatives. It expects honest, fair elections, anticipates good candidates and the elevation of one to fairly and reasonably represent their district or state.
What's at stake for "democracy" is our Constitutional rights, based on our "inalienable rights". Over three-quarters of American voters believe elections are rigged - not just Trump supporters. Democrats believe they were ripped off in 2000 and 2004 with Dubya winning over Gore and Kerry. They believe 2016 was corrupted by Russia and other forces to defeat Hillary, installing Trump. What would it take to convince you that the 2020 election was honest and on the level? Well, they feel the same way. In effect, we are all being cheated of our voices.
Our national parties do not appeal to patriotism, preferring partisanship. It's a much easier sell to the tribes that form political echo chambers.
And from that corrupted democracy, we get the Republic we have...do we want to keep it?

Do we want to keep our Republic? It's gone, never to return. Solitary judges, alphabet agencies, 7-person environmental boards, and corporations now run the country. They are not disposed to let go. Live in the light of this fact.

Fell short is a severe understatement of the condemnation this speech deserves, and putting forth rational arguments against a fool is a fool's errand.

To me, it's a pretty strong statement that even the All Biden Channel did not carry his speech, and instead ran a game show.
I recall (approximately) 1967, Lyin' Lyndon Johnson and the statement that "When you lose (leading news anchor) Walter Cronkite" that Johnson had lost the support of the bulk of the American people. Johnson later made the statement that "I refuse to accept the nomination for a second term as President of the United States." Yes, he was THAT unpopular. But, to his credit, he realized how poorly he had executed the duties of his office.
The HairSniffer has yet to come to that realization.
The HairSniffer calls himself (or at least his Teleprompter programmer wrote) that he is the Great Unifier.
I have to agree with him. The Citizens are United, on at least one thing.
In my neck of the woods, pretty much Everyone believes -whether they admit it or not- that The HairSniffer is the:
WORST. PRESIDENT. EVER.
