Vladimir Putin last night sparked a fresh energy war with the West as he kept Europe's gas pipeline closed after the G7 agreed an oil price cap to choke his war chest. Moscow blamed 'oil leaks' in a turbine after announcing the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which runs to Germany under the Baltic Sea, would not reopen today as planned after three days of maintenance. Sparking fears of fuel prices rising yet further, state energy firm Gazprom said the facility would remain closed indefinitely until the leaks were fixed. The announcement came hours after Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi agreed with the world's richest democracies to try and slash the Kremlin's

Food processing plants burning to the ground, gas refineries burning to the ground, herds of livestock dying from unknown reasons, food shortages all over the place, and now as if by some small coincidence an oil leak shuts down the gas pipeline to Europe. All of it is just a simple astronomical coincidence.

Russia is defeating Germany again. They did not learn their lesson. No worries, Biden will rescue Germany and Ukraine. Just kidding.

They lie, of course. Russia was always going to cut off their gas and oil, it was just a matter of exactly when.
Judging on what he did in Ukraine, he will try to make them freeze in winter. I had friends in Ukraine who had no ability to heat their apartment 6 years ago because Putin was applying pressure to get Ukraine to buckle under to his will. It didn't work, so now he sends tanks and bombers and cruise missiles.

Hey EU, you can thank your old pal. Joe Biden, for your woes. When it’s dark and cold this winter you may have time to reflect on your decision to defame President Trump. You know, he’s the guy who had this country energy independent and more than willing to export our excess gas and oil to you. Joe Biden put the kibosh on that on his first day in office by shutting down our ability to produce what we have in abundance. President Trump would have made enough energy available to our allies to prevent the coming disaster you are facing. Let this be a lesson for you. When you throw in with an incompetent fool who is a corrupt ideologue that puts greed and power above the good of his own country, it has a way of trickling down to impact our friends and allies. It appears you are going to learn the hard way that embracing climate change dogma has serious repercussions. A reasoned and rational strategy to use natural resources in a responsible manner until the time green energy has progressed to the point that it is a viable alternative source, is going to look pretty good this winter. Right now, you appear to be between a rock and a hard place because you rejected common sense in favor of a pie in the sky promise that is not ready for prime time. Never forget, the bad guys in the world always prey on the weak and you made yourselves vulnerable when you embraced an idea whose time has not yet come. Sitting at the “cool kid’s” table is going to be little comfort when you are freezing.

Just imagine fighting Battle of Britain with a majority of oil coming from Germany. It was incredibly stupid to get into this situation.

The real stupidity occurred when the seriously naive and delusional Euros allowed themselves to become dependant on Russia for their energy supply. Putin is only doing what ruthless leaders always do, taking control. Sucks to be stupid, doesn't it?

This is exactly why the US should remove itself from Europe and front-line NATO duty. The Euros want an alliance that is clearly anti-Russia. They all want "mutual protection"...while they do business with the Russians and develop strategic dependencies on them, like their gas supplies. In the meantime, they short their NATO and defense "contributions" that the US happily makes up...sort of like arming Ukraine with billions to defend their, dare I say, "democracy." The truth is NATO is the US military and some spear carriers opposing a second-tier, nuclear-armed adversary...although exactly what the conflict now entails is unclear. It's not Communist ideology these days.
To Europe, it's time to say Auf Wiedersehen! Au revoir! Good-bye!

FTA: “ 'The coincidence between this announcement and the G7 price cap will fuel concerns in the West that Russia is weaponising gas supply to Germany,' said Dr Samuel Ramani, a Russia expert at the University of Oxford.”
FTA: “ Britain, the US, Canada, France, Italy, Germany and Japan – the countries that make up the G7 – said they would bar insurance for tankers or shipping companies helping Russia sell oil at prices above a cap that they will set.
When we use the means at our disposal to destroy you, it’s for peaceful purposes. When you use the means at your disposal to respond, it’s weaponization.
I wish i knew why we want Ukraine in NATO so much to do all this. Pappy Poopy Pants says it’s because Putin’s a war criminal. Or the Ukrainians can do whatever they please. Or something.

Russia has spent decades trying to build a reputation as a reliable natural gas supplier to the rest of Europe. Now, that reputation is being destroyed and they’ll never get it back. When that pipeline capacity goes down to 20% or so, things will start to break. Since they’ll no longer have western tech support to keep their pipelines running (think Halliburton et al) pretty soon that pipeline won’t work. Putin has shot himself in the foot. The EU will find other suppliers for LNG instead of Russia. The oligarchs who support Putin will find a way to get rid of him.

Re #18, well Putin had the head of a major Russian oil company tossed out of a window in a tall building yesterday, so at this point, the Russian Mob, also known as the Russian government, is still winning.

POTUS Trump warned them and they ignored him. Stupid is as stupid does. In fact, the genius doubled down on stupid by killing their neuclear plants on top of killing their coal plants. I guess they thought that the electric genie was going to suddenly appear and fix all their grid problems. It is going to be a long, dark, cold winter for Europe. Go green and freeze to death.

Many Russian oil and gas wells are drilled through permafrost for quite a depth. I have heard from perported oil experts on the web that when these wells have their flow reduced below a critical level, they freeze up, damage the well pipes and destroy the functionality of the well. I'm no oil well expert, so I really don't know if this is real or just an "internet expert".
And oil well experts know about wells drilled through permafrost and then 'low flowed'?
This expert is saying that Russian oil production, if it goes below a critical level will flatline and take a decade or more to bring back on line.
