What takes years and costs $20K? A San
Francisco trash can

San Francisco—What takes four years to make and costs more than $20,000? A trash can in San Francisco. That costly, boxy bin is among six trash cans hitting San Francisco’s streets this summer in the city’s long saga in search of the perfect can. Overflowing trash cans are a common sight in the Northern California city, along with piles of used clothes, shoes, furniture and other items strewn about on sometimes-impassable sidewalks.(Snip)Officials say the current bins have too big a hole that allows for easy rummaging. The bins also have hinges that need constant repair and locks that are easy to breach. Some people also topple them

Comments:

San Francisco "residents" rummage through and vandalize trash cans. To liberals, the fault lies with the trash cans, which will be remade at enormous expense to the taxpayer, who exists to be exploited. SF is the same city where they deployed special splash-back paint to deter vagrants from urinating against walls, and has had street lamps topple because people pee on them. One day they'll devise self-cleaning sidewalks to address the defect that allows them to be used to collect syringes and human feces.

The prize quote, "...we live in a beautiful city...." A corrected phrase that is realistic. "Once upon a time we lived in a beautiful city...." I'm not sure that the nutters who run that city have the capacity for self-reflection or gazing at the world, in reality, to Make SF Great Again.

Some years ago, probably 25-30 or so, One of the insurance companies I represented gave their top agents a trip to SF and then Pebble Beach/Carmel. Very nice. The SF Ritz, etc. One of the company execs and his wife invited us to dinner one night. We had to decline since my wife was suffering a migraine at the time. I had walked down to the bar and saw them coming back right away. Said, Paul, I thought you guys were going down to that nice restaurant a couple of blocks away? He said, we were, but there was some bum taking a crap in the doorway, and he had diarrhea to top it off. Paul's wife said they were going to order dry toast from room service. As I said, this was thirty or more years ago. I can't imagine what it's like now

How soon will these trash cans be stolen and sold on ebay? Fire pits? Smash the top to make it flat.....put a board on top......a new table The re-purposing possibilities are endless.

This mystery could easily be solved by following the money. The liberals in San Francisco allowed/approved this because they're getting a kick back. Plain and simple. With democrats when you follow the money you find the rationale for everything they do.

The U.S. Marshals Service is drafting a sanctuary policy that would limit the agency’s ability to hold illegal immigrants for pickup by ICE, The Washington Times has learned. Under the policy, marshals would not be able to hold illegal immigrants for pickup by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on the say-so of an immigration warrant, or “detainer” request. Once the Marshals Service is finished processing an immigrant for its custody purposes, the person is to be released even if ICE has asked for a hold. Officials said the policy is still in draft form, though The Times knows of one jurisdiction in Florida where it has already been implemented,

Sky News reported: The head of RAF recruitment has resigned in protest at an “effective pause” on offering jobs to white male recruits in favour of women and ethnic minorities, defence sources have claimed. New York City officials are hoping to provide a total of nearly 6,000 luxury hotel rooms to border crossers arriving on buses from Texas even as rents for city residents skyrocket to unsustainable prices. For weeks, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has sent buses filled with border crossers to New York City—a rigorous sanctuary city that shields and protects illegal aliens from arrest and deportation by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. Mayor Eric Adams (D), a supporter of the city’s sanctuary policy, has called on New Yorkers to get “on board” with waves of illegal immigration sent to New York City while also calling the migrant buses “horrific”

White House climate official Jane Lubchenco has been barred for the next five years from the National Academy of Sciences, which determined she violated its code of conduct in a prior role before joining the administration last year. Ms. Lubchenco, deputy director for climate and environment at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, edited a paper for NAS that was later retracted because it contained outdated information and was co-written by her brother-in-law. The move to rebuke the climate official and prohibit her from NAS publications and activities came last week after the conservative American Accountability Foundation inquired NAS about the misconduct back in January.

Lead researcher Dr. Susan Cheng, a cardiologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said those who didn’t know they had COVID had no symptoms or mild symptoms that they “attributed to another cause like

Target Corp.'s profits took a nosedive this summer as the retailer worked to whittle down excessive inventory. The Minneapolis-based retailer said Wednesday morning that its profit fell 90% in the May-through-July period as it cut prices and canceled orders to get rid of items that weren't selling. It earned $183 million, or 39 cents a diluted share. That was 33 cents below the consensus forecast of analysts. Revenue for the second quarter grew 3.5% to $26 billion. Target executives said that, while their effort to right size its inventory harmed profitability for the quarter, they were confident that it was the right move for the future

The arrival of busloads of migrants into New York City has raised questions about the administration’s border policies. Here are the facts about our increasingly dysfunctional immigration system: Under US law, most migrants coming here without permission must be expelled. The only exceptions are migrants fleeing torture or racial, religious, ethnic, political or social-group persecution. “Economic refugee” is a contradiction, and “seeking a better life” means nothing if a migrant lacks permission to enter.(Snip)During that same period, however, DHS released approximately 853,000 migrants stopped at the southwest border into the United States. Although those migrants are commonly called “asylum-seekers,” these statistics show fewer than 5% are.

It’s abundantly clear that former Vice President Mike Pence is going to run for president in 2024. He’s been putting in the leg work lately, with a scheduled trip to New Hampshire coming up. He’s also positioned himself as a Trump foil in the mid-term GOP primaries, taking a contrary position to the former president in several states, most recently in Arizona. For my part, I think Pence’s pursuit is delusional. There is exactly one person in the GOP who would be palatable to Trump voters if Trump himself weren’t the nominee, and his name is Ron DeSantis.
