The Minneapolis Police Department’s “buyback” program allows organizations, sports teams or neighborhoods to buy extra overtime police patrols. But the program has been criticized as inequitable and further stretching the department’s resources at a time when some less wealthy neighborhoods say police are totally unresponsive. Host Cathy Wurzer talked to Michelle Phelps, an associate professor in the department of sociology at the University of Minnesota who is working on a book about policing in Minneapolis. Comments:

Article is full of liberal mumbo-jumbo. But apparently the well-heeled 'woke' neighborhoods don't want to cower in their basements forever. So they'll bite the bullet and pay cops extra to fend off the rough mobs.

Next, they can subscribe to the Fire Department, and put one of those cool plaques in front of their stylish homes so the nice firemen will know to keep them from burning down when the unwashed masses over- run the rent-a-policemen and torch the stylish homes. Then they can gather in their segregated church, and pray in the pews they bought so others dare not sit in them and thank whatever God is approved of there for saving them from the Others, and write large checks to bloated charities to ease their guilty consciouses and pay off the Others so they won't burn down their homes again, making sure to take the deduction for the contribution on their tax return that is full of every tax dodge they can get away with. Thank goodness for money. It's so good to be a liberal.

Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia stunned many by striking an agreement for a $790 billion climate, healthcare, and tax package. The legislation is much bigger than most Democrats thought possible only two weeks ago when Manchin appeared to take climate programs and tax hikes off the table, citing growing fears about fueling inflation. But the most carefully negotiated deals can still be upended in an environment where no margin of error exists. Manchin is on a collision course with Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona over a small part of the bill. The pair disagree on carried interest, a loophole

BEDMINSTER, N.J. — An already lively crowd erupted with applause and chants of “Four more years!” and “Let’s go Brandon!” when former President of the United States Donald Trump made an appearance at the first tee before Friday’s shotgun start of the LIV Golf Invitational Series event at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster. “What’s (PGA Tour commissioner) Jay Monahan doing right now? Crying!” yelled another fan. The former president has faced a great deal of criticism for hosting the Greg Norman-led and Saudi Arabia-backed series, especially from a group of 9/11 families, who held an emotional protest Friday morning before

In the video posted on Tuesday, Biden, who has just recovered from COVID, condemns former President Donald Trump and his role in the January 6 Capitol Riots. Biden says US not in a recession despite
two consecutive quarters of shrinking economy

President Biden said the United States "is not in a recession," despite Thursday's GDP report, saying it is "no surprise that the economy is slowing down" amid inflation. The U.S. economy shrank in the spring for the second consecutive quarter, meeting the criteria for a recession as record-high inflation and higher interest rates forced consumers and businesses to pull back on spending. Gross domestic product, the broadest measure of goods and services produced across the economy, shrank by 0.9% on an annualized basis in the three-month period from April through June, the Commerce Department said in its first reading of

LOS ANGELES — The newest bridge in Los Angeles, a $588-million architectural marvel with views of the downtown skyline, opened to great fanfare on July 10. It has already been closed, to great dismay, several times since then amid chaos and collisions. The 6th Street Viaduct — which soars over the concrete-lined Los Angeles River to connect downtown to the historic Eastside — quickly became a hotspot for street racing, graffiti and illegal takeovers that draw hundreds of spectators to watch drivers perform dangerous stunts in their vehicles. Social media stunts have abounded as well — in one case, a man sat in a

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced ex-Minneapolis police officer J. Alexander Kueng to three years in prison and ex-officer Tou Thao to 3 1/2 years on criminal civil rights charges related to the 2020 killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The sentencings bring to a close the Justice Department's criminal prosecution of the four ex-Minneapolis officers involved in Floyd's death. Earlier this month, Senior U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson gave Derek Chauvin a roughly 20-year sentence and sentenced Thomas Lane to 2 1/2 years. Just one-fifth of New Hampshire voters want President Joe Biden to seek another term in 2024, and his support within his own party has fallen sharply since last summer, according to a new poll. But likely Democratic primary voters in the key first-in-the-nation contest appear to show early signs of favoring an alternative to Biden: Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. The new Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, found that only 31% of Democrats want Biden to run again, down from 54% in June and 74% in July 2021. “President Biden is increasingly seen as

Joe Biden had a more than two-hour call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday. The first thoughts I have in writing about that call are that it’s dangerous for the United States to have him on a call for that long with a foreign leader, particularly Xi — that Xi would be able to see the issues, and therefore the weakness of Joe Biden. The one thing you never want to project to the Chinese is weaknessBut that’s just what Biden has been doing. By definition, anyone hired based on their diversity and intersectional identities will not be the best. Merit and diversity are anathema to one another. Joe Biden selected Kamala Harris for his Vice President for the singular reason that she checked off boxes for being a black woman. Ditto for Ketanji Brown-Jackson and double ditto for Jen Psaki’s replacement Karine Jean-Pierre. This isn’t a difficult concept, but all leftists lack self-awareness, introspection, and the ability to assimilate new information with their rigid dogma. That leaves us with someone so utterly bad at her job that it’s astonishing she is able to wake up in the morning.

I know this administration loves to change language and linguistics, but this is too much. Also, in 2019, Jean-Pierre called Trump’s wall racist. Is it racist when Biden does it? Germany, together with several European countries, are telling their citizens to expect large increases in their electricity bills as energy costs continue to skyrocket.
