Alexander Kueng to three years in prison and ex-officer Tou Thao to 3 1/2 years on criminal civil rights charges related to the 2020 killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The sentencings bring to a close the Justice Department's criminal prosecution of the four ex-Minneapolis officers involved in Floyd's death. Earlier this month, Senior U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson gave Derek Chauvin a roughly 20-year sentence and sentenced Thomas Lane to 2 1/2 years. 3-3.5 years doesn't constitute a felony so, they are still eligible to find another department that would hire them but if this civil rights thing is considered a felony they'll never be police officers anywhere in the U.S., too bad they were only doing their job, goes for Derek Chauvin, too

Gee, if I was a Mpls. (or most "big city cops") stuff like that would make me think twice ... or a third time ... about trying to catch or subdue a criminal. And by that time, the perp would be gone, so the decision is made. My freedom, and my family is safe for now. Of course, the rest of society has to deal with the human debris that will continue to terrorize the community.

Social media users have started spreading conspiracy theories about President Joe Biden following a video where he keeps his eyes open noticeably wide. A video posted to Biden's Twitter page earlier this week has sparked a series of conspiracy theories about the president online. In the video posted on Tuesday, Biden, who has just recovered from COVID, condemns former President Donald Trump and his role in the January 6 Capitol Riots. The Minneapolis Police Department’s “buyback” program allows organizations, sports teams or neighborhoods to buy extra overtime police patrols. But the program has been criticized as inequitable and further stretching the department’s resources at a time when some less wealthy neighborhoods say police are totally unresponsive. Host Cathy Wurzer talked to Michelle Phelps, an associate professor in the department of sociology at the University of Minnesota who is working on a book about policing in Minneapolis. President Biden said the United States "is not in a recession," despite Thursday's GDP report, saying it is "no surprise that the economy is slowing down" amid inflation. The U.S. economy shrank in the spring for the second consecutive quarter, meeting the criteria for a recession as record-high inflation and higher interest rates forced consumers and businesses to pull back on spending. Gross domestic product, the broadest measure of goods and services produced across the economy, shrank by 0.9% on an annualized basis in the three-month period from April through June, the Commerce Department said in its first reading of

LOS ANGELES — The newest bridge in Los Angeles, a $588-million architectural marvel with views of the downtown skyline, opened to great fanfare on July 10. It has already been closed, to great dismay, several times since then amid chaos and collisions. The 6th Street Viaduct — which soars over the concrete-lined Los Angeles River to connect downtown to the historic Eastside — quickly became a hotspot for street racing, graffiti and illegal takeovers that draw hundreds of spectators to watch drivers perform dangerous stunts in their vehicles. Social media stunts have abounded as well — in one case, a man sat in a

Just one-fifth of New Hampshire voters want President Joe Biden to seek another term in 2024, and his support within his own party has fallen sharply since last summer, according to a new poll. But likely Democratic primary voters in the key first-in-the-nation contest appear to show early signs of favoring an alternative to Biden: Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. The new Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, found that only 31% of Democrats want Biden to run again, down from 54% in June and 74% in July 2021. “President Biden is increasingly seen as

The U.S. economy contracted in the second quarter of 2022 as the economy was battered by four-decade high inflation, record high fuel prices, soaring food costs, and tighter monetary policy. The government reported Thursday that Gross Domestic Product shrank by 0.9 percent in the April through June period. Economists had expected the economy to grow by 0.3 percent, according to the Wall Street Journal. The economy contracted by 1.6 percent in the second quarter. Many Americans consider two straight quarters of recession to be the marker of a recession. Economists, however, rely on the determination of the National Bureau of Economic Research to say when a recession starts.
