Sacramento's homeless population has spiraled out of control, soaring by 67 percent in just three years - pushing the numbers even higher than nearby San Francisco as photos show tent cities and communities of the unhoused living under bridges.
California's capital has just over 5,000 homeless people within the city limits, many living in vehicles and tents, compared to the 4,400 homeless people estimated to live in San Francisco.
However, the number becomes more stark when factoring in the city's population numbers - only 525,000 people live in Sacramento versus San Francisco's 874,000.

It appears Newsom needs to stay home and fix his hometown more than bother us here in Florida. Newsom Go Home! Git Shoo!

High rent. That will make a drug-addicted criminal out of you every time. They are still keeping that spoon away from Rosie.

Rents go up in places where no one wants to build new housing - - because commie/socialist gubermints make it impossible to earn a profit.
Even in places from which people are fleeing - - if the housing stock deteriorates faster than people leave - - rents go higher.
But try explaining that to a delusional "activist."

It is the law of supply and demand. If we weren't being invaded in the south we would have more living space available. You know who to blame for this.

It's too bad we don't have a real media in this country that would report the results of all the disasters brought to America by these crazyass liberals and their policies. Why is this article from Great Britain and not the U.S. media?

I'll continue to never complain about living in an area that has REAL winter. Here in N. Michigan , we don't have many, if any ,addled 'special ' people hanging out, littering the streets and sidewalks. I love winter.........

One problem is the old flophouses are gone. They provided bare-bones housing for a rock-bottom price. The flophouses, or boarding houses, were not glamorous but helped keep hobos off the streets.

Perhaps the skyrocketing rental prices are meant to keep the scum out. The owners of these rental properties aren't stupid. They know the amount of damage that is done when a drug addicted welfare person moves into an apartment. The damage caused by these people is more than a year's rent. Plus, the other tenants are more likely to move. In the eyes of the owners of rental properties, it's cheaper to have an empty apartment than repair one after someone who doesn't care lives there.

Sacramento, SF and LA may have the largest number of homeless in Calif but the problem is in every city and small town. Recently, while traveling from Oregon back to Calif, I stopped in the small town of Yuba City, off of I-5, to get gas. I guess I stopped in the wrong part of town. There was a homeless colony behind the gas station and it was obviously also a place to buy drugs. Very frightening group of drug addicts, young and ruining their lives.
The problem is everywhere including wealthy areas and with homeless comes crime. I travel from Napa Valley to Marin County often and even in the wealthy suburban cities there are homeless camps, usually along waterways. Newsom is doing absolutely nothing to stop the problem. The problem stems from drug and alcohol addiction and it always has been the root of homelessness. It is not about the cost of housing.
