Bill de Blasio dropped his bid to represent the left-leaning 10th Congressional District on Tuesday, admitting that “it’s not going work out.”
“I’ve really listened carefully to people and it’s clear to me that when it comes to this congressional district, people are looking for another option. And I respect that,” the former mayor said in a video statement posted to Twitter.
He also conceded it’s finally time for him to “leave electoral politics” and “focus on other ways to serve.”

Washington - President Joe Biden will travel to Massachusetts on Wednesday to promote his efforts to combat climate change but will stop short of issuing an emergency declaration that would unlock federal resources to deal with the issue, according to a person familiar with the president’s plans.
Biden has been under pressure to issue an emergency declaration after Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., pulled out of negotiations over climate legislation. During his visit to Somerset, Mass., Biden could announce other steps on climate change but the White House has not released details.

Now that Joe Manchin has once again pulled the rug out from under him, essentially nixing the possibility of getting any climate legislation through for the near future, Joe Biden is under pressure to do whatever he can through executive action to combat climate change. Democrats have renewed calls on Biden to take “forceful, firm, and wide-ranging” action on the environment in recent days — and the president appears ready to to do just that, with White House officials telling reporters that he could declare a climate emergency as soon as this week.

After intense backlash from local bodega workers and city tabloids, Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg on Tuesday dropped all charges against bodega clerk Jose Alba, who was allegedly acting in self-defense when he fatally stabbed a man who was attacking him.
The liberal DA’s decision comes after weeks of criticism of Bragg’s decision to send the 61-year-old to Riker’s Island and charge him with second-degree murder in the death of 35-year-old Austin Simon. Bragg first requested Alba’s bail be set at $500,000 before it was lowered to $50,000 in response to criticism from the community. He was later released on a $5,000 bail bond.

Amazon on Tuesday said it is suing the administrators of more than 10,000 Facebook groups that incentivize people to write fraudulent reviews about products sold on its stores in the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan.
The lawsuits are aimed at identifying "bad actors" and removing the fake reviews from Amazon's websites, the e-commerce giant said. The company noted that these groups have solicited fraudulent reviews for hundreds of products sold through its services, including car stereos and camera tripods. One group, called Amazon Product Review, had more than 43,000 members until Facebook parent Meta shut it down earlier this year.

On Monday night's NBC Nightly News, after spending the first five minutes of the broadcast panicking over a heat wave in the middle of July, anchor Lester Holt and correspondent Anne Thompson chalked the warm weather up to "climate change" and sought to blame Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) for blocking the Biden administration's radical climate change agenda which would drive inflation up further by pumping more money into the economy.
"This severe weather certainly underscoring the increasing role of climate change and the challenges America faces in trying to combat it"

The summer of 2022 is a season of deepening and widespread discontent, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. The survey finds the public’s outlook on the state of the country the worst it’s been since 2009, while its view on the economy is the worst since 2011. And nearly 7 in 10 say President Joe Biden hasn’t paid enough attention to the nation’s most pressing problems.
Biden’s approval rating in the poll stands at 38%, with 62% disapproving. His approval ratings for handling the economy (30%) and inflation (25%) are notably lower. Rising costs are a primary economic pressure for most Americans: 75% call inflation and the cost of living

Mehmet Oz, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania endorsed by former President Donald Trump, claimed the “MAGA movement is dying” in a fundraising message sent to his supporters. Oz won Pennsylvania’s GOP Senate primary by a narrow margin with the help of Trump’s endorsement. The former president claimed that Oz “will be the one most able to win the General Election against a Radical Left Democrat looking to do unthinkable harm to our Country.” Now, Oz is reportedly fundraising by warning his supporters that the “MAGA movement is dying.”

Gallup released the results of a new poll today showing that Americans’ faith in the media, both newspapers and television news, is at a record low point.
Americans’ confidence in two facets of the news media — newspapers and television news — has fallen to all-time low points. Just 16% of U.S. adults now say they have “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in newspapers and 11% in television news. Both readings are down five percentage points since last year…
A majority of Americans have expressed confidence in newspapers only once — in 1979,

The role of the White House Press Secretary is supposed to be to convey the position of the Biden Administration. But it’s one heck of a tough job because it also involves cleaning up after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who so frequently make a mess of things. It doesn’t help when the person who is the press secretary keeps stepping in it herself.
Here’s Karine Jean-Pierre agreeing, at least in part, that what Kamala Harris said — comparing the Supreme Court opinion returning the decision on abortion to the states to slavery — was right. So not only did Kamala say a monumentally stupid

Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday compared abortion bans to slavery in that they both are “claiming ownership over human bodies.”
“It’s important to note that to support a woman’s ability, not her government, but her to make that decision does not require anyone to abandon their faith or their beliefs,” Harris said in a speech to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
“It just requires us to agree the government shouldn’t be making that decision for her,” she added. “And think about it, for the first time in generations, the United States Supreme Court, the highest court of our land, the former court of Thurgood Marshall,

President Biden on Sunday lashed out at reporters who asked if he regretted his fist bump with Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, who approved the 2018 operation that killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi, according to U.S. intelligence assessments.
“Why don’t you guys talk about something that matters?” Biden told the reporters at the White House after returning from Saudi Arabia. “I’m happy to answer a question that matters.” The fist bump received widespread criticism as a sign that Biden was cozying up to Saudi leaders. Biden previously vowed to make Saudi Arabia “the pariah that they are”
