It’s being called the Great Realignment. Allahpundit mentioned it yesterday at the end of this post. In short, the most recent NY Times polls shows that Democrats have more support among college-educated whites than they do among minorities. In a piece about this phenomenon for Axios, Josh Kraushaar writes:Shifts in the demographics of the two parties’ supporters — taking place before our eyes — are arguably the biggest political story of our time…
Democrats are statistically tied with Republicans among Hispanics on the generic congressional ballot, according to a New York Times-Siena College poll out this week. Dems held a 47-point edge with Hispanics during the 2018 midterms…

Gee, I guess this is a whole lot like the Communist movement from the 1930's in this country. They've gotten a lot more traction this time compared to back then though.

Gee, sounds like the white slaveowners and their descendants are taking back the reins of the Democrat party from those uppity minority folks. I guess white robes and cross burnings are next.
Yep, the more things change the more they stay the same.

Why are we allowing these FEW people to tell us what to do? Same with Trans. Trans are less than 1% of teh population and yet we allow THEN to tell us what language to use and what to do regarding business. Same with abortion. How about WE tell RHWM about the scientific truth and proper language we all use. Stop letting them TELL US ANYTHING.

These type seem to be abundant on the site NextDoor. They delight in complaining about kids playing outdoors without masks or a guy repairing his motorcycle in the driveway. There must be rules against everything!

"the party’s biggest vulnerability is assuming that the priorities of progressive activists are the same as those of working-class voters"
SO TRUE!
The progressive dems define the party of the elite. Remember in the 2020 election, Biden was propped up to defeat the candidate of these elite, Sanders, who would have been soundly beaten in the general election. The problem is, the elite are outspoken and loud so when Bernie was dumped, they had to mollify his supporters to win the election. Biden's environmental actions were the payoff. Biden didn't care. He has no principles. He makes deals to get paid off and reelected.
The problem is, the elite only make up 20% of the electorate. They are never going to win an election by themselves. So they have to bamboozle Blacks, Hispanics, and Union laborers who mostly do NOT support the elite agenda and may even be repelled by it. Biden's administration has made it clear the progressives are running the show the the economic damage being done is seriously hurting the other identity groups in the party. Those groups know it and they don't like it. The dems are trying the BIG LIES to turn things around but Biden is incapable of making a believable argument. Also, the damage is so bad, the worst in 4 or 5 decades, that the lies fall flat almost immediately. The media is starting to admit how bad things are but they are trying to dump all the blame on a hapless Biden. However, it is also clear that the elite of the dem party, those in charge, are responsible. Biden is just their stooge, a role he has always played well.
The terror for the dems is that significant numbers that see the truth of the progressive dem party will leave and not come back. Maybe they will just not vote. Maybe they will switch to the Republicans. Maybe a new party will arise. Maybe they will fight to retake the dem party, although that begs the question, "What happens to the progressives?".
No matter what, it seems like long term bad news for the dems. They deserve every bit of angst they get.

Wasn't too long ago, the final rites were being written for the Republican party and conservatives.
All us old white men were dying off, blacks and Hispanics and the "woke" were taking over. Every elected official from dog catcher to President will be a Democrat liberal. Yep, even Texas was gonna turn blue, blue, blue.
A funny thing happened on the way. It didn't happen.
South Texas could very well elect three Hispanic women to House seats along the Mexican border (I wouldn't bet on it, but if you had told me that even two years ago, I'd think you were crazy. Now, I think it's possible.) In 2020, a South Texas border county that went for Hillary by 60 percentage points in 2016 went for Trump by 5. A northern Democrat friend asked me once if I though Texas was going to turn blue -- I told him that Texas Democrats are just trying to get money from their northern donors off that line. Yes, a Democrat is going to win a statewide office (which they haven't since 1994). It just won't be in 2022, and probably not 2024.
The death of conservatism and Republicans (not RINOs) is not gonna happen. Nor are our Democrat and liberal friends going away. They may be less influential than they'd like to be. At least for awhile.

Second sentence correction:
"college-educated whites"
should read
"college-indoctrinated whites".
