President Joe Biden's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, discussed unspecified "security issues" with China's top diplomat in a Luxembourg meeting on Monday, according to a White House statement. The meeting between Sullivan and Yang Jiechi, which followed a May 18 phone call between the two men, "included candid, substantive, and productive discussion of a number of regional and global security issues, as well as key issues in U.S.-China relations," according to the statement, which didn't elaborate. "Mr. Sullivan underscored the importance of maintaining open lines of communication to manage competition between our two countries," the statement said.

Comments:

Who is Jake Sullivan? Is HE the actual Presidentof the United States. He was identified by Victoria Nuland as Joe Biden's handler in the 2014 U.S. led and managed coup in Ukraine which has led to the current civil war there.

FTA: "Tensions have grown this year over Taiwan, which Beijing regards as Chinese territory." Here's news for many - the US already ceded the notion that Taiwan is "Chinese territory" with its "One China Policy" acknowledging that Taiwan was part of PR China...just not sovereign over Taiwan. It's word hockey to allow the US to have diplomatic relations with PRC. But it doesn't take a genius to see the future, likely some negotiated "Hong Kong"-type relationship. The Chinese are less about "communism" than they are about commerce and "face", both in Beijing or Taipei.

China, you should be aware that Sullivan does not "represent" the USA, and his commitments will last only as long as he does.

NATO on Friday rejected Ukrainian calls to help it protect its skies from Russian missiles and warplanes, wary of being dragged into Moscow's war on its neighbour, but Europe promised more sanctions to punish Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy strongly criticised the decision, saying the alliance had given Russia the green light to continue its bombing campaign. He had earlier appealed to NATO to set up a no-fly zone over Ukraine, which Russia invaded by land, sea and air on Feb. 24.

So far, Justin Trudeau’s invocation of the Emergencies Act hasn’t yielded any overt scenes of state power; no clouds of tear gas or columns of troops being marched into the capital. But it’s very different story within the Canadian financial sector. One of the most far-reaching implications of the Emergencies Act is what it prescribes for the Canadian financial system. According to the government’s new Emergency Economic Measures Order, every single bank, credit union, investment broker and insurance provider in the country has been deputized to figure out if they have a blockader as a client, and to immediately freeze their accounts if so.

A watchdog group is pressing the Department of Homeland Security to disclose its methods behind a new domestic terrorism threat bulletin that warns of “the proliferation of false or misleading narratives” as a cause of undermining public trust in the federal government. The Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) said it will file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking the basis for the DHS bulletin. The group said the Biden administration’s policy involves “the use of the domestic security state to potentially target political opponents, squash free speech and deliver federal dollars to special interest allies.”

As COVID continues to ravage through Vermont, so too does the increasingly invective rhetoric deployed against those who are unwilling or unable to take the vaccine. A vaccine so remarkably ineffective at preventing contagion, that Vermont – the state with the highest vaccination rate in the nation – recently made national headlines for also having the highest case rate in the nation. And higher case rates have led to more deaths – many more deaths. There have been three times as many COVID deaths since the vaccines than before.  CORRECTION*

Burlington— After a fiery meeting that showcased how polarizing pandemic restrictions have become, city councilors voted unanimously to enact a citywide mask mandate Wednesday evening, requiring businesses to ensure that employees and patrons either wear masks or prove they are vaccinated. The mandate requires indoor masking while Covid-19 spread is “high” or “substantial” in Chittenden County... Per state law, it must be renewed monthly and cannot extend past April 30, 2022. People do not have to wear masks in restaurants, convenience stores or gyms if everyone in the establishment has shown proof that they are vaccinated, the ordinance stated.

Demonstrations against rules mandating vaccine status checks, or at least negative tests, have brought together a disparate alliance, stretching from anarchists and trade unionists to neo-fascists and ultra-conservative Catholic groups.

Republicans in Congress have called for more domestic production to increase the supply of oil in order to reduce the cost.

President Biden's Energy Department has proposed a new rule that would require homeowners looking to buy a new furnace to install a 95 percent energy-efficient one within the next seven years. The new rule would require that gas-burning residential furnaces be condensing gas furnaces, which reuse gas and water vapor that normal noncondensing furnaces vent into the atmosphere. It would require that all gas-burning furnaces on the market to be switched over by 2029.(Snip)The Department of Energy (DOE) estimates that the new furnaces will save households about $60 per year, a number that totals $30.3 billion over the next 30 years.
