NATO rejects Ukraine no-fly zone, unhappy
Zelenskiy says this means more bombing

NATO on Friday rejected Ukrainian calls to help it protect its skies from Russian missiles and warplanes, wary of being dragged into Moscow's war on its neighbour, but Europe promised more sanctions to punish Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy strongly criticised the decision, saying the alliance had given Russia the green light to continue its bombing campaign. He had earlier appealed to NATO to set up a no-fly zone over Ukraine, which Russia invaded by land, sea and air on Feb. 24.

Comments:

Of course it was NATO/Biden dangling membership for Ukraine into NATO that prompted the reaction from Russia.

If you type the name Zelenskyy into Free Translation and choose Ukrainian you can see the problem. They have letters that don't translate directly into English. As for the No Fly Zone, it's just not going to happen. Our pilots could be shot down over what Putin considers to be Russian territory.

Biden's happy. People aren't focused on the economy and COVID. Putin's happy. He is rebuilding the Soviet Union. He's using Ukraine as an example. This is what will happen if you join NATO. Plus, he gets a country rich in resources to help prop up Russia. That may be the biggest reason for this. Zelensky and Ukraine get hosed, but didn't he realize nobody was coming to his rescue? How could he make such a mistake? He should have made his peace with Russia, but by no means that is a guarantee this wouldn't have happened anyway. Who was inviting Ukraine into NATO, btw?

There was a timely path Zelensky could have followed. In the first two days he could have shown his resistance then talked peace with Putin surrendering the Ukraine. Zelensky thought help was coming but was wrong on that account. After all this time with Russians gaining ground Putin is going to gain a burnt-out shell of a country to rule over. The Ukraine and its people will never return or be the same. Putin got what he wanted but much less life and blood could have been spared.

yep, OP, this all could have been easily avoided. Had one NATO member (USA) announced they would not accept Ukraine into the alliance there would have been no reason for Putin to invade. When Brezhnev dissolved the USSR and the Warsaw Pact it was understood the former Soviet client States woukd remain nuetral and provide a buffer from NATO. But the West's military industrial complex would not pass up tge opportunity to sell weapons. I was employed by LORAL in the 90s. I sold my stock and found other employment when Clinton and Schwartz aided the Chicom missile development. I lost money but I never regreted it.

#7. This from a December 9 news article by Reuters: "KYIV, Dec 9 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy that Kyiv's bid to join the NATO military alliance was in its own hands, Zelenskiy's chief of staff said after the two leaders spoke on Thursday. Biden and Zelenskiy had a call two days after Biden held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to try to defuse a crisis over Russian troop movements near Ukraine's borders." You can google the whole article.... Biden said this, Biden said that. Biden will assuredly do this and do that. blah blah blah... Biden's whole life has been blahblahblah... "C'mon man! Ain't I something?"

So far, Justin Trudeau’s invocation of the Emergencies Act hasn’t yielded any overt scenes of state power; no clouds of tear gas or columns of troops being marched into the capital. But it’s very different story within the Canadian financial sector. One of the most far-reaching implications of the Emergencies Act is what it prescribes for the Canadian financial system. According to the government’s new Emergency Economic Measures Order, every single bank, credit union, investment broker and insurance provider in the country has been deputized to figure out if they have a blockader as a client, and to immediately freeze their accounts if so.

The Canadian capital of Ottawa is bracing for a third straight weekend of protests against a vaccine mandate by truckers in the so-called Freedom Convoy as a state of emergency takes effect in the city. Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly promised "more boots on the ground" in remarks and Friday and urged protesters not to come to Ottawa but he did not share details about potential police deployments. Ontario Premier Doug Ford declared a state of emergency in the Canadian province on Friday and both he and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned of "consequences" for protesters.

A watchdog group is pressing the Department of Homeland Security to disclose its methods behind a new domestic terrorism threat bulletin that warns of “the proliferation of false or misleading narratives” as a cause of undermining public trust in the federal government. The Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) said it will file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking the basis for the DHS bulletin. The group said the Biden administration’s policy involves “the use of the domestic security state to potentially target political opponents, squash free speech and deliver federal dollars to special interest allies.”

Hundreds of Canadian truckers plan to descend on the nation's capital of Ottawa on Friday in an attempt to shut down the city in protest of a COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The mandate, initially enacted by the Canadian federal government and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, went into effect on January 15. The mandate requires any truck driver crossing into Canada from the United States to provide proof of vaccination. A similar mandate, which went into effect on January 22, requires the same proof of vaccination for truckers driving from Canada into the United States.

As COVID continues to ravage through Vermont, so too does the increasingly invective rhetoric deployed against those who are unwilling or unable to take the vaccine. A vaccine so remarkably ineffective at preventing contagion, that Vermont – the state with the highest vaccination rate in the nation – recently made national headlines for also having the highest case rate in the nation. And higher case rates have led to more deaths – many more deaths. There have been three times as many COVID deaths since the vaccines than before.  CORRECTION*

Burlington— After a fiery meeting that showcased how polarizing pandemic restrictions have become, city councilors voted unanimously to enact a citywide mask mandate Wednesday evening, requiring businesses to ensure that employees and patrons either wear masks or prove they are vaccinated. The mandate requires indoor masking while Covid-19 spread is “high” or “substantial” in Chittenden County... Per state law, it must be renewed monthly and cannot extend past April 30, 2022. People do not have to wear masks in restaurants, convenience stores or gyms if everyone in the establishment has shown proof that they are vaccinated, the ordinance stated.

Bloody Sunday commemorates when, in 1965, 600 people began a march from Selma, Alabama, to Montgomery, Alabama, demanding an end to discrimination in voter registration. At the Edmund Pettus Bridge, state and local lawmen attacked the marchers with billy clubs and tear gas, driving them back to Selma.
