Rays fans weigh in after DeSantis vetoes
$35 million for Florida team's training facility

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Tampa Bay Rays fans spoke to Fox News about Gov. Ron DeSantis’ decision to veto $35 million in funding for a new training facility. "We as taxpayers should just worry about bringing lots of … fans to the area and support that," Bonnie, of Bradenton, told Fox News. "The governor has no business in that." After vetoing the funding, DeSantis said Friday that he doesn't "support giving taxpayer dollars to professional sports stadiums" and that "it's inappropriate to subsidize political activism of a private corporation." The Rays had pledged to donate $50,000 to Everytown for Gun Safety in late May following the Uvalde, Texas, shooting.

Comments:

For a long time I have been against taxpayers subsidizing professional sports owners and players. First of all, they have a monopoly, and therefore control the supply. That helps the bottom line. Then they get taxpayers to build expensive stadiums, and give them special tax breaks. The owners and players are making billions, while taking money out of taxpayer's hands. Now they are contributing to this liberal cause or another. Since money is fungible, I think it is fair to say that taxpayers are helping them contribute to liberal causes. The Rays pledged to give "Every Town For Safety" 50,000.00. This is a liberal gun control group who doesn't support teachers being able to carry.

The Rays can finance and build their own stadium if they want a new stadium. They can get fans to help. Why burden taxpayers?

They COULD have done it quietly, the way MOST people give to Charity, instead they did it verrrrry publicly, virtue signalling, and jumping into the political Gun Ban Game. While demanding $35Mill for a "Practice" facility? From TAXPAYERs??? That could build 10 New Schools, for the flood of people moving to Fla.(even at that, $3.5 Mill for a school is waaaay tooooo much, cost per foot is Cathedral Pricing, double or triple normal residential/commercial costs)

Hey Bonnie, DeSantis is trying to preserve the freedom of all Americans and discourage liberally-biased corporations from enriching liberal causes with taxpayer money. Sports are generally ENTERTAINMENT. What do “fans”get out of being fans? Does it really MATTER to your LIFE which team(s) win or lose. The players, teams and stadiums will otherwise keep collecting their millions long after you are gone. Will YOU get any of those millions? “Fans” is short for FANATICS. Time to GROW UP and get a life. But SOME people will NEVER grow up, and THAT’s what the teams, players, stadiums and advertisers depend on as they take their “fan” money to the bank.

It is apparently DeSantis's business, as the bill for taxpayers to pay for the Ray's facility is on his desk, and he has said he is not going to sign it. The owners of the Rays can invest their own money. Rays fans can pay higher ticket prices and pay for it.

Based on the sale of the Denver Broncos in the NFL for over $4 billion, Stu Sternberg literally "stole" the Rays when he bought the majority stake years ago. Any MLB franchise, even in a small market like this, would be valued over $1B now. Stu has plenty of money to build his own stadium, he does not need taxpayer money. If he is not happy, he is free to move. We lived without baseball for years and can do it again. Good luck in Nashville, LasVegas, or North Carolina Stu. Don't let the door hit you in the behind!

WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly a year since its inception, the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol will go public with its findings starting this week as lawmakers hope to show the American public how democracy came to the brink of disaster. The series of hearings that will take place over the next several weeks begin with a prime-time session Thursday night in which the nine-member panel plans to give an overview of its 11-month investigation. More than 1,000 people have been interviewed by the panel, and only snippets of that testimony have been revealed to the public, mostly through court filings.

Their sources did not say "whether the administration will simultaneously require interest and payments to resume at the end of August, when the current pause is scheduled to lapse."

It wasn’t that long ago when the left’s narrative on ‘gay rights’ was simple, straightforward, and easy to support: Let’s all be tolerant of one another, live and let live, and don’t discriminate. Tolerance is, after all, one of the fundamental tenets of the philosophy which drove America’s founding. But as the saying goes, “give someone an inch and they’ll take a mile,” which is the situation in which we find ourselves today. The message of ‘tolerance’ eventually morphed into ‘acceptance.’ At some point late in the Obama Administration, our culture decided that it was inadequate to merely tolerate the shenanigans of the LGBTQ community, we needed to welcome them.

Speculation is rife concerning the possible presidential candidates representing the two major parties as the nation approaches the 2024 elections. Everyone has an opinion, and the pundits are competing in the expertise sweepstakes. What can we say with some degree of plausibility? The Democrat roster is, by all accounts, dramatically uninspiring. Biden, who speaks in tongues, is plainly beyond redeeming; the question is whether he will manage to survive the year, let alone stumble, lollop, and whiffle to the end of his first term. Kamala Harris belongs in vaudeville or farce, given her talent for provoking laughter. Both will have to be retired in favor of an electable candidate. But who?

As the liberal media obsesses over President Trump for so-called "inciting" the peaceful crowds to enter the Capitol on January 6 to protest, Republicans are standing up and defending their party. While meeting with conservative activists at a Phoenix IHOP, Senate candidate Blake Masters (R-AZ.) questioned whether Jan. 6 was just one big set up by the FBI. According to audio of the meeting obtained by CNN, the Trump-endorsed candidate was asked if he would support an investigation into the U.S. Intelligence operations to reveal the government’s motives in the protests, to which he replied “absolutely.”

It is no surprise that Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) dislikes President Donald Trump. After all, no man has done more to denigrate the Iraq/Afghan War strategy that her father crusaded for than Trump. He not only opposed Cheney’s approach to war, but he also mocked it mercilessly. As the former Vice President’s oldest daughter, with her own dose of less charm and less savvy, Liz Cheney has now entered on her own crusade. Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Democrats have 'absolutely no intention' of losing the House despite historic norms and dire polls suggesting otherwise and acquiesced that she would accept a more narrow gun control package from the Senate. In a wide-ranging briefing, the speaker proclaimed: 'We have absolutely no intention of losing the House.' As the party in the White House, the historical odds are not in the favor of Democrats, not to mention inflation and gas prices have dragged on Democrats' poll numbers. Republicans need a net gain of just five seats to take back the majority, and the Cook Report rates 26 Democratic-held seats as toss-up or leaning Republican.

But yesterday, trying to defend the miserable mismanagement of the economy, she fully escaped the bounds of reality and entered what must be the Twilight Zone. Precisely nobody will believe this: "What we're trying to say, what I'm trying to say to you, is that the economy is in a better place than it has been historically."
