Ron DeSantis: Requiring Permits for Concealed
Carry is ‘Subcontracting Your Rights’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is warning that requiring a permit for concealed carry subcontracts out constitutional rights to the whims of the person approving permit applications. News4Jax noted that DeSantis described the concealed permitting process on Tuesday as a “licensing scheme” run by people who can take away your license if they so choose. The Governor made clear he wants to replace the permitting system with a constitutional carry framework. Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried is the individual who oversees concealed permitting in Florida. She is also a Democrat candidate for governor in the state. Fried responded to DeSantis by calling the push for constitutional carry “absurd political pandering

Comments:

I agree with our wise Governor.

If you need a permit, it isn't a right.

I wonder how many criminals are arrested with firearms and NO carrying permit. Carrying permits make money for the unit of government that sells them, and that is the main reason for requiring them. Only law-abiding people invest the time and money required to pursue a carrying permit.

I agree with the Governor, even though his language is awkward on this. I would have said 'diminishes our right' but then, I'm not the Governor. In addition, he has the Presidency in his future, and I don't!

DeSantis is a gem. Yes, he's right. And now (IIRC) it is 25 states that have Constitutional Carry now, no permit required. Florida getting it would be excellent. When I was working to change the laws in my state in the 90s, to early 2000s, it seemed an impossible dream that carrying a concealed weapon would finally be recognized as the legitimate constitutional right that it always has been. Today half of our states have officially recognized that this is the right thing to do. Let's hope that we can get the rest of the states on board sooner or later. The NY gun control case that has been argued before the Supreme Court and which will be announced in June may be a landmark decision on concealed carry. There seems a very good chance that all non-objective standard permitting states will be found to be unconstutitional. These "may issue" laws generally translates into "only my friends and rich folks get permits". Requiring objective standards ("shall issue") would go a long way towards finally killing the claims that honest citizens carrying weapons causes increases in crime - which is absolutely false, but still widely believed by leftists and many in the big NE cities. Experience in 40+ states proves otherwise.

U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell has once again made a complete fool of himself, this time with a defense of abortion in which he brought up the completely unrelated issue of school shootings to blame Republicans for mass murder as justification for his support for the killing of the unborn. Drawing on President Joe Biden’s recent demonizing of nearly half of the American electorate whom he accused of being the “most extreme political organization” in the nation’s history, the California Democrat upped the ante with his latest unhinged Twitter outburst. “You know who had a heartbeat? Every child murdered in their school because Republicans are the party of mass shooters.

Be that as it may, it is widely believed that the draft opinion was leaked in order to allow for a pressure campaign to take place in the hopes that some justices could be swayed before the final opinion is released. On Tuesday president Biden just destroyed the Democrats message on abortion with a gaffe that is unlikely to be forgotten anytime soon. While he was discussing the possibility that the Supreme Court could overturn Roe versus wade, the president never referred to women’s health. Instead, President Biden made sure to refer to a child that was being aborted. In layman’s terms this means murdering a child. “The idea that we’re going to make a judgment that is going to say that no one can make the judgment to choose to abort a child, based on a decision by the Supreme Court, I think goes way overboard,” Biden said Tuesday, emphasis added.

He said: "[T]oday, around the world, we’re seeing so many Muslims being targeted with violence. No one, no one should discriminate against oppressed or be oppressed for their religious beliefs…. Muslims make our nation stronger every single day, even as they still face real challenges and threats in our society, including targeted violence and Islamophobia that exists.
