90% of the Ukraine "war" is a civil war. More Ukrainians are being killed by Ukrainians than Russians.

"Ukraine is pressing into Russia now, using drones is an act of aggression" - I would like to point out that the NYT is concerned that Ukraine is committing an act of aggression, but in fact Russia is the only aggressor in this conflict. Russia previously invaded and seized the Crimea from Ukraine. This time Russia invaded with the intent to annex all of Ukraine, or at least seize a large part and make the rest a puppet following Russian orders. If Ukraine takes the battle into Russia that is a reasonable act as no war is won by strictly adhering only to defense. Why should Russia not face risks for their adventure?

You mean there's still a war going on? If I believe the news reports, the greatest battle of the last month was Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.

Why has the Russian army been so effete? It harkens back to the old soviet truth about having a job: "we pretend to work, they pretend to pay us." What motivates a Russian soldier to fight? Nothing to gain for him and his family. What about Putin's mercinaries from Syria and the Middle East? Really? Money? Of course Putin is losing. OTOH, Ukrainians are motivated by real things: Love of country, love of life, love of family, hope for a good future.

Putin was in no way ready to start a war and the results show exactly that. He knew he had a limited window while our Vegetable in Chief was in power. Since Moscow is so close to Ukraine I would assume that most of Russia's military equipment would have been kept close to Moscow so they have left themselves in a very weakened position and have lost the bulk of it in the unexpected intensity of Ukraine's response. Nukes are all that Putin has left and he is now a cornered rat. A nuclear war has been brushed off as an improbability for decades but no longer. Let's hope that his missiles and bombs are in the same condition as his conventional army equipment.

It may just be that Russia will be so weakened that China is "forced" to invade Siberia and Putin will find out who his real friends are.

Russia began in Kiev (Kyiv Russ) and so the warring factions have a similar history and national philosophy. I wouldn't trust either side to be truthful. Most of East Ukraine is composed of people of Russian descent and loyalty who have had the Ukranian government anti-Russian policies imposed upon them down to banning their language. As #2 opined, they are likely joining in the fight against the neo fascist Ukraine Azov army. A couple of neutral countries have noted that some of the reported massacres, if real, were just as likely to have been perpetrated by the Ukranians I also question the veracity of all news organizations. Young reporters have been inculcated with political propaganda in "journalism" schools and are prone to subliminally reporting with a bias.

Interesting evaluation. I sincerely hope that Putin isn't so mentally unbalanced as to actually use nuclear weapons, but that is essentially impossible to discern. And Russian commentators taking the view that "We will go to heaven, while they will simply croak... We're all going to die someday.'" is pretty disconcerting, assuming it is not just some sort of a propaganda ploy. The whole concept of "Mutually Assured Destruction" preventing a nuclear war was the baseline idea that no leader wants to destroy his own country and kill himself and his family. With leaders who are nihilistic enough .....these root assumptions begin to break down. Do we truly have a madman running Russia, intent on destroying the world as his tantrum if he can't have his way? I don't know, but it is seeming to be more possible all the time. And I have no good idea how to deal with it. Rent a backhoe and start digging a big hole in my back yard? Support letting the madman rule the world?

If Iraq had the the same weapons that are being supplied to Ukraine, we would have never made it to Baghdad. These are the most sophisticated weapons the world has ever seen supplied by multiple countries which is why Russia didn’t want NATO on their doorstep in the first place. Calling Russia a shabby oligarchy is incredibly naïve. Regardless of the battlefield this is an economic war which we cannot win. Real wealth is resources which Russia has in abundance and China, the world’s 2nd largest economy and manufacturing powerhouse as an ally and trade partner. Not to mention the world’s second largest gold reserves as well as thousands of tactical nuclear weapons they can leverage. Many would argue that the Biden administration and liberalism have reduced America to a shabby democracy squabbling over LBGTQ ideology, suppression of information and free speech by dot comm oligarchs, uncontrolled immigration and irresponsible money printing on a fantastic scale. Not to mention a public that would actually vote for an impaired geriatric individual for president. Russia and Putin may be many things, but they are not fighting a proxy war half way round the world. It’s all on their doorstep.

Jill Biden is not an inherently interesting person. She’s been a teacher for some decades now, wrote an undistinguished thesis to get a meaningless Ed.D., and now functions as her husband’s nursemaid. She also lacks charm. And, of course, she’s White. Why someone thought a biography of her would be interesting is impossible to understand although a biography that took two people to write hit the market this past week—and completely bombed. With all eyes on Ukraine, few are noticing how Joe Biden is ruining relations with a critical nation next door to us, which is Mexico. (snip) it's pretty clear that Biden's dinner triangle to migrants of all countries to come on in through the Mexican border isn't a welcome thing in Mexico. The dynamics are pretty simple: mass migration means huge smuggling earnings for Mexico's notorious cartels. Because the U.S. won't guard its own border, cartels have stepped in from the Mexican side and declared that they now control the border.

When a man becomes president, he suddenly gains a new appendage: The Secret Service. Wherever he goes and whatever he does, members of the Secret Service are there, keeping an eye on him. That’s why it’s truly peculiar that, in response to a FOIA request from the New York Post to see documents identifying Joe Biden’s visitors during his regular stays in Delaware in 2021, the Secret Service is claiming that it has no records with that information.
