The cause is often a virus, but the viruses that commonly cause the illness — hepatitis A, B, C, D and E — have been ruled out in the cases in question, leaving doctors searching for the culprit. In several cases, the illness was so severe that the children needed a liver transplant. No deaths have been reported. The World Health Organization on Friday said it was investigating 74 cases of severe acute hepatitis in children under age 13

Elon Musk is a visionary, a billionaire, and an immigrant to America who has built his fortune on relentless work and an ardent belief in first principles. His bid to use his vast resources to buy Twitter and bring a semblance of free speech and open debate back to the popular social media platform is laudable. But just remember one thing: Elon Musk is not a savior of free speech and expression. He’s not your savior.
He would probably be the first to assert that truth, but would the fawning media in the thrall of sticking it to Twitter listen to him?

Twitter’s board of directors gathered this week to sign what sounds like a suicide pact. It unanimously voted to swallow a “poison pill” to tank the value of the social media giant’s shares rather than allow billionaire Elon Musk to buy the company.
The move is one way to fend off hostile takeovers, but what is different in this case is the added source of the hostility: Twitter and many liberals are apoplectic over Musk’s call for free speech protections on the site.
Company boards have a fiduciary duty to do what is best for shareholders, which usually is measured in share values. Twitter has long done the opposite.
Gov. Ron DeSantis looks to cruise to re-election in Florida as the probable Republican red wave approaches. Still, there are two candidates vying to replace him on the Democrat side. One is infamous political chameleon Charlie Crist, once a “Republican” himself, and the other is current AG Commissioner Nikki Fried.

A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting at a busy mall in South Carolina's capital city that left 14 people injured. Jewayne M. Price, 22, was arrested early Sunday and is expected to be charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol.
He was initially detained as one of three people initially identified as persons of interest in Saturday's shooting at Columbiana Centre. No fatalities have been reported. But nine people were shot and five people suffered injuries, including broken bones lacerations and a head injury, while attempting to flee the mall for safety. The victims ranged in age from 15 to 73.

Chicago - The State of Illinois has launched a new program that will provide free health care to undocumented immigrant adults ages 55 to 64.
The free health care program was approved by lawmakers in Spring 2021. It is an expansion of Illinois' program to provide health benefits for immigrant seniors.
Covered services include doctor and hospital visits, lab tests, physical and occupational therapy, mental health, substance abuse disorder services, dental and vision services, and prescription drugs.(snip)The free health care will expand even further on July 1 to cover eligible adults ages 42 to 54.

The state housing department is gearing up to send stern warnings to cities trying to skirt a new housing law advocates hope will bring more affordable housing. Senate Bill 9, a state law that went into effect Jan. 1, allows property owners to build duplexes and in some cases, fourplexes, on most single-family parcels across the state. Cities, more than 240 of which opposed the bill, have pushed back against the state with ordinances that would severely curb what property owners can build. One of the most visible signs of our federal government’s corruption is the treatment being meted out to the January 6 prisoners, who have been deprived of their express and inherent rights under the Constitution, one of which is the right to an impartial judge. Dustin Thompson, however, was not accorded that right, as Judge Reggie Walton explicitly showed his political bias and hostility to Thompson. Walton should have recused himself before the trial. With the trial over, at the very least, the judgment should be reversed. Ideally, Walton would be removed from the bench and disbarred.
