DeSantis Hints at Possible Repeal of Disney’s
‘Special Privileges’

Original Article

As Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wrapped up a press conference in Ponte Vedra Beach on Thursday, he floated the possibility that state lawmakers might repeal the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act in response to Disney’s ongoing opposition to the recently signed “Parental Rights in Education” law, dubbed by liberal opponents of the measure as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID)—drafted by the Florida Legislature in cooperation with Walt Disney World and signed into law by Republican Gov. Claude Kirk—effectively created two municipal-style governments, Bay Creek and Reedy Creek, to regulate the Lake Buena Vista land where the Walt Disney World Resort operates.

Comments:

The nature of this specisl setup is fully described in the article. DeSantis is on the right track. As usual.

A brilliant chess move by Governor Ron DeSantis! Love this guy. The concept of creating special enterprise zones by the state government is a great idea as it basically cuts all the bureaucratic red tape and allows a business to quickly & efficiently build something large that will ultimately benefit both the business itself and the local people ... thus ... in the long run .... the state as well. Thousands of jobs were created with this exemption and those weekly salaries were given mainly to locals as was the purchasing of building material. Makes sense in the long run. However, it was never expected that the corporation benefiting from this special state aid package and carve out (in this case: Disney) would then turn around and bite the hand that is feeding it! It is not any of Disney's business to say that their "corporate policy" is to have a law, that was passed by elected representatives and signed into force by an elected governor, overturned by a judge or somehow repealed. Excuse me? Your job ... Mr. Mouse ... is to shut up and entertain people. That's it. Lose of this special tax-exempt status will crush Disney and trash their corporate debt. Someone with green eye shades in the accounting department better wake up and quick!

DeSantis is playing 3-D Chess and Disney is playing patty cake. On the right we will boycott all things Disney from networks (ABC and ESPN suck already), the theme parks are dead to me, and thankfully the grandkids have outgrown the Disney store. They can rot in Hades with their woke and perverted ideas.

President Joe Biden’s first press secretary, Jen Psaki, plans to leave her position in the White House soon for a shiny new gig at MSNBC, but her duties as the administration’s primary spin chief won’t change much even after she switches jobs. Axios first reported in a scoop on Friday that Psaki would soon depart the White House. While Psaki has yet to sign an official contract, the report notes that the progressive network has been chipping away at negotiations with her for weeks. MSNBC hopes to bring on the former CNN contributor to host a show on the outlet’s streaming platform Peacock and offer frequent commentary on the outlet’s regular

There are several historical referents we should keep in mind about the Ukraine war. First, no-fly zones. Lots of Westerners are calling for NATO aircraft to establish a no-fly zone above Ukraine to stop Russian bombing of Ukrainian cities. That is a terrible idea. Back in 1967, the Reedy Creek Improvement District agreement was created to lure Disney to Florida. The agreement allows the district governmental powers to facilitate recreational projects and tourism. Florida's legislature felt that it would benefit the state if recreational organizations had the power to act as their own government in areas like property development, water control, public utilities, law enforcement, and fire protection.
