A Russian brigade commander in Ukraine has died after being run down with a tank by his own mutinous troops, it was revealed today. Western officials believe Colonel Yuri Medvedev was brutally taken out after his 37th Motor Rifle Brigade suffered huge losses. A lieutenant general commanding the 49th Combined Arms Army has also died in the fighting - the seventh to perish in the war. News of Colonel Medvedev's fate - backed by recent footage of the extraordinary episode - came amid claims that 20 of the 120 battalions massed by Vladimir Putin have been rendered inoperative

I am reminded of an exercise in the mid 80's I was on. We were a mobile fire team defending a camp full of medics and engineers. The aggressors (it was war games) were attacking from across an open field. Small arms only, no armor. A lieutenant (one of the engineers) jumped up and yelled "CHARGE!" and started running across the field. He was the only casualty because he was the only one who charged. I heard someone ask if this was Gettysburg. For the rest of the exercise whenever they opened the chow tent or start rolling a convoy, someone would yell "CHARGE! "

First of all it's not a botched invasion. Putin did not want to control the country. He's there to tactically remove the BioLabs, trafficking bunkers and tunnels, and destroy the Nazi's. Putin has been very successful. And #1 is correct, the Daily Mail is trusted as much as CNN.

#6 chumley I saw a similar incident like that. I had to go to an Army summer exercise in 1969 after returning from Vietnam. A first lieutenant dressed like Patton with tanker goggles, field jacket button up with his pistol strapped over it in 100+ heat standing in his jeep was going to lead a charge across a field, but his driver drove under a low hanging tree limb cleaning him out the back of the jeep onto the ground. After being in a real war I thought what a clown show this was but it paid well since I was unemployed and I was paid for my rank and service time.

If every horror actually befell the Russian Army that the media has been reporting, that Army is nothing more than an incompetent drunken mob using very obsolete tactics. So it is easy to see why they have not taken on the modern NATO Armies.

What #1 said. Even this article, patchworked together from other reports, in typical DM fashion, says that Medvedev was run over, his legs injured and was transported to Belarus for treatment. It also says there is no confirmation. He may or may not have died. The DM got the required clickbait headline and undoubtedly moved on to some starlet’s toned abs. It’s a tabloid, folks! Photos and clickbait headlines. Its stories show the seams where they have been stitched together - and the repetition.

Re #11, are you saying General Patton was deliberately killed by one of his troops? That’s not what history tells us. Yet, all his laurels could not protect the General from a simple car accident eight months into the peace. Twelve days before his death, on December 9, 1945, Patton was sitting in the back of his limousine when his driver, PFC Horace Woodring, sped too fast over a railroad crossing in Manheim, Germany, and plowed into the passenger-side of a left-turning Army truck headed into a depot. https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/general-george-s-patton-jr-death His neck was broken and he was paralyzed from the neck down. He subsequently died of a pulmonary embolism. Where’s the parallel?

Well, now. If true--who knows if it is?--it's a memorable fragging, or, more accurately, compacting of Col. Medvedev. Maxwell Edison (majoring in medicine) and his Silver Hammer could scarcely do better. FYI, if a human being is run over by a steam roller, or, conceivably, by a heavy tank like a T-72 on pavement, how high would the remains be? Answer: About one-tenth of an inch. Get cher spatula ready. "Some of you young men think that war is all glamour and glory, but let me tell you, boys, it is all Hell!" (Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman, quoted during the 1870s)

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine opened up a new front in the 2022 US midterm cycle, with America’s role in the conflict taking a place alongside the culture war clashes, economic worries and fights over pandemic policy that had driven the early stages of the election. The global implications of the war in Europe has forced candidates in both parties to adjust their political playbooks to account for a rapidly evolving new issue that, at its core, has united voters in support of aiding the Ukrainian resistance to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression, but also underscored the rigid partisan divide that defines modern American politics.

And during the nation’s largest inflation spike in 40 years, overwhelming majorities said they believe the country is headed in the wrong direction and disapproved of the president’s handling of the economy. Those are some of the major findings of the new national NBC News poll, which found that Biden’s overall job approval rating had declined to 40 percent

President Joe Biden is trying to protect Ukraine from further Russian escalation by publicly expanding policy justifications for a U.S. nuclear attack, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal on Friday. The leaked expansion reverses his 2020 campaign pledge, which declared that the “sole purpose” of U.S. nuclear weapons would be the deterrence of a nuclear attack. The reversal was leaked to the Wall Street Journal as U.S. officials worry that Russia might escalate the border war in Ukraine amid the crippling setbacks caused by U.S.-supplied anti-tank missiles, anti-artillery drones, and economic sanctions. Some members of Biden’s administration — and many progressives — are pushing for a huge victory against Vladimir Putin,

I’m filing this under “too good to check,” as it’s in dispute. But before you dismiss the possibility out of hand that Ukraine has Russia on the run in the south, bear three things in mind: 1. They did just begin a counteroffensive aimed at Kherson 2. Yakov Rezantsev, the latest Russian general to be killed, reportedly met his maker in Kherson in a Ukrainian air attack 3. The fact that the Kremlin hinted hours ago that it was giving up on most of Ukraine might be a reaction to what’s happening in Kherson, essentially an admission that they can’t hold territory outside the Donbas at this point.
