President Joe Biden is reportedly planning to propose a new 'minimum tax' targeting billionaires, establishing a 20 percent levy on all American households worth more than $100 million. The White House plans to unveil the 'Billionaire Minimum Income Tax' on Monday as part of Biden's 2023 budget plan, according to the Washington Post. But it would have to pass through Congress to become law, and would likely face stiff opposition from some quarters. The proposal aims to close a purported loophole that benefits the nation's 700-odd billionaires, many of whom have most of their wealth in stock, which is not taxed until it is sold for a profit.

What about the carried interest rule that allows hedge fund managers to get their income taxed at capital gains rates?

This article fails to mention how unrealized losses are treated.
Since the government would receive a portion of unrealized gains, does the government pay the taxpayer a portion of unrealized losses each year?

Comparison of tax rates should include discussion of the risks inherent in the source of income. Stocks (equities) held for more than a year are taxed at lower rates than are fixed-income investments (bonds) held for the same period, reflective of risk levels.
These billionaires typically took great risk in accumulating their wealth and used their skills and hard work to build companies that employ people and produce goods and services their customers are willing to pay for. Why should they be punished for doing so?

"Unrealized" means it doesn't exist yet.
So Dopey Joe and the Demzis want to tax something that doesn't exist?
Somebody who has $100mil in some stock could not sell it for $100mil because they would flood the market and drop the price, making it worth less.
This is too stupid even for the Demzis. What is really going on? Misdirection? Distraction? Threat? Fishing for bribes to not push this?

The only ones that implement a tax will be congress, not this feeble moron. By the way, it will never happen. The middle class will be the ones to pay an additional 20% tax if it happens. Biden needs to look at ways to pay for his out of control spending. Our dear Manchin is now looking at ways to vote for the Biden Build back better bill. And next up, if that works: a wealth tax. That way, people like Teresa Heinz Kerry, who reportedly had $5 billion---but no income!---can see her wealth shrink by a billion each year. And Billy Gates new swinging bachelor pad, worth $43 million, will generate at least $8 million a year in 'wealth taxes'. Then, how about windfall taxes on incomes of sports stars, Hollyweird stars, and the Kardashians. Then a tax on things you don't 'own' but get to use; like Al Sharpton's suits, POSoros' estate for your wedding, etc.

Does anyone remember when the guy that transports Canadian oil by his choo choo trains, instead of a Keystone pipeline, said his secretary pays more tax? Warren the true blue fascist was supporting Killary's sinking campaign and he was accurate in that there are tens of thousands of regulations in the tax code providing thousands of deductions. When you have a team of corporate tax accountants they take advantage of the decades of Congress doing the oligarchs favors.

Point 2: how much in taxes does Biden think he'll get if these 700 individuals decide to leave the country and take their money with them and renounce their citizenship? Switzerland's kind of nice.

so $100 million is now a billion? dim math.
In order to pay the tax the "billionaire " will likely have to sell stock which will lower the stock prices. Everyone's market investments are diminished and so is the amount of capital gains the government taxes. NET ZERO and another shortsighted dim failure.
But it sounds "fair" to the ignorant dim voter

And as always happens those who aren't super rich will get hit the hardest. I get less than 90k$ per year and I'll bet dollars to doughnuts I will end up having to pay that tax. When the alternative minimum tax (that was supposed to make the super rich pay some tax was passed) I ended up having to pay. It was only about $100 but I had to pay. When they raised taxes on Social Security(a retirement system made from money you have already paid taxes on once already) so that the super rich had to pay taxes on their social security my mother had to pay that tax. And she couldn't even afford to own a house but they classified her as super rich.
Every time they "raise taxes on the rich" the non-rich end up having to pay.

It seems to me that what they are REALLY going after is the 'Unrealized Capital Gain' of the increased 'Dollar value' of Everyone's HOME!
The super-rich will move their wealth 'offshore' to tax-haven countries, and even if hey did not, the 'super-rich' don't have enough money to pay the Federal deficit (not the Debt, just the annual Deficit). With the off-the-chain Democrat spending, the Dollar is worth less and less.... we have the highest inflation rates since 'Jimmah' was in office, and it may surpass that. Your house, just sitting there, becomes 'worth' more and more Dollars as the value of each Dollar shrinks. The Plan is to tax you on the 'unrealized Capital Gain' on your Home as, just sitting there unchanged, it becomes worth more and more of the shrinking Dollars.
Don't believe me?
Wait and See!
