I’m filing this under “too good to check,” as it’s in dispute. But before you dismiss the possibility out of hand that Ukraine has Russia on the run in the south, bear three things in mind:
1. They did just begin a counteroffensive aimed at Kherson
2. Yakov Rezantsev, the latest Russian general to be killed, reportedly met his maker in Kherson in a Ukrainian air attack
3. The fact that the Kremlin hinted hours ago that it was giving up on most of Ukraine might be a reaction to what’s happening in Kherson, essentially an admission that they can’t hold territory outside the Donbas at this point.

A woman in her 70s was recovering from injuries Thursday after being forcibly held at gunpoint while suspects ransacked her home. The Biden administration is considering allowing Russia to buy Iran's excess enriched uranium under the terms of a new nuclear deal, U.S. officials said this week.
Under the original Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPO) in 2015, Russia agreed to buy Iran's excess uranium so that the regime could not build a nuclear weapon, a role that may be revived in the new deal.

Arizona and Oklahoma passed bills on Thursday that would ban transgender youth from participating in girls’ sports, the latest in a flurry of state legislation passed by Republicans on the hot-button, election year issue.
In addition to the Republican-sponsored “Save Women’s Sports Act,” Arizona lawmakers passed legislation that would prohibit physicians from providing gender-affirming surgery to minors. Both bills are now headed to the desk of Governor Doug Ducey, also a Republican.
The votes largely fell along party lines.
