2019: Ukraine Chooses War With Russia

Original Article

Posted By: earlybird, 3/15/2022 1:25:52 PM

I came across a fascinating interview excerpt dating from 2019 with Oleksiy Arestovych, adviser to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. What’s fascinating about the interview is that Arestovych sets out in plain terms what’s happening today. It’s not exact, but very close—so close as not to make much difference. (snip)Arestovych quickly sets the interviewer straight: Far from leading to an end of war in the Donbas, such an invitation to join NATO at a future date would prompt Russia—with a 99.9% certainty—to launch a preemptive “large scale military operation against Ukraine” to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO.

Comments:

This is a curious article. The source material is here. See what you think. (Don’t bother to mention what appears to be an error at the beginning of the article’s second paragraph. It appears that "Russia won’t dare to confront Russia” should have said “won’t dare to confront NATO”). If this has been simmering for this long, why should we be in the middle of it?

I've been trying to tell people that Russia was pushed into this "war" by NATO and the US.

What the author de-emphasizes is that the Ukrainian he refers to saw this war with Russia as the only alternative to being gradually absorbed by Russia. Arestovych was saying that he would prefer a war with Russia, which the Ukraine could conceivably win, to the gradual conquest by Russia which would happen otherwise (in his estimation). Arestovich preferred for Ukraine to be absorbed into the "West" to being absorbed into Russia.

eyeroll. There is a difference between the moral gravity of ambiguous paper pushing versus the moral gravity of bombing apartment buildings not once but day after day, knowing you did it and doing it again, and lying about it, and doing it to people you are related to, and slandering people who said you didn't, and doing all this because you Adore your country not your Creator. The bigger story here is not NATO, not the EU, not left-right, not 2014, not the Donbas. The wide wide story here. Is. Murder. Please stop changing the subject before the Murder stops. Tx.

Murder... March 15, 2022, 6:36 AM · The United Nations human rights office said on Tuesday that the latest confirmed civilian toll in Ukraine is 691 people killed and 1,143 injured since Russia's invasion began 20 days ago. The death toll, which includes 48 children, was up from at least 636 civilians killed... How many were active combatants, soliders and partisans? Hardly appears indiscriminate slaughters. At 35 daily, it's fewer than the number of murders daily in the US (about 47). Who are we at war with?

BS. Latvia and Estonia and Poland are ALL on the border of Russia and are all in NATO. Not a hint of Putin wanting to start a war over that. The fact is that Putin feels like he OWNS and has a RIGHT to control Ukraine, and THAT is fundamental to why Putin went nuts. This is more like an "escaped slave:" than anything else. The Russians OWN Ukraine and have for hundreds of years and they will NOT allow them to be free.

The history of Western man is the history of war, and no war looms larger in the West than the Peloponnesian War. From where I sit, we appear to be on the threshold of yet another propaganda about-face. The Ukraine “war” is increasingly looking like it was all about Russia having found a moment when the NATO-associated World Economic Foundation client states were distracted by other matters, and then seizing the opportunity to put a halt to the gradual assimilation of Ukraine into the NATO alliance. If one looks at the situation from a Russian geopolitical-realpolitik frame of reference, the gradual development of a NATO-aligned state along the Russian border, replete with US-sponsored “Biolabs” that were (at best) working with biothreat agents (toxins, pathogens) collected from the Ukrainian region (snip)represented a legitimate

There appears to be continuing discord in NATO. I’m sure Putin had a good laugh at that one. It didn’t take long for a German reaction. China’s state-run media is signaling that Beijing will continue to side with Russia over the war in Ukraine, after seven hours of “intense” talks between U.S. national security advisor Jake Sullivan and Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi in Rome on March 14. The two sides discussed a number of issues, including Taiwan and North Korea, as well as a “substantial discussion” on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. A senior administration official told reporters after the meeting that the talks were intense due to the “gravity of the moment” amid efforts to end the fighting in Ukraine. They also mentioned that Sullivan had also expressed concerns to his Chinese counterpart about the emerging Sino-Russian alliance.
