PIERRE, S.D. — The National Park Service has denied South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s request to mark the Fourth of July with fireworks at Mount Rushmore, citing opposition from Native American tribes as well as the possibility of igniting wildfires. “Mount Rushmore is the best place in America to celebrate our nation’s birthday – I just wish President Biden could see that,” the Republican governor said in a statement Tuesday. “Last year, the President hypocritically held a fireworks celebration in Washington, D.C., while denying us our own event. This year, it looks like they are planning to do the same.”

Isn't it the people's monument?

I guess she hasn’t figured out that DC will only allow correct thinking people to celebrate the Fourth of July…

This isn't about tribe opposition or wildfires. It is about the deep state politicians and bureaucrats not wanting to celebrate this country and its greatness but instead wanting to tear it down and institute deep state control by whatever means available.

Bigger problems to resolve than fireworks displays. Our government is off the rails.

#5, this is much more here than “fireworks displays.” It is about unjust and transparent punishment of red states for daring to question the political narratives forced on them by the evil forces on the coasts who see the rest of the states only as a means to feed and serve the elites.
Yes, there are bigger problems than this, but we’re not going to be shamed from pointing out evil acts of government overreach simply because other crises exist.
The Left is trying to do this with their “how horrible you are to criticize gas prices when there are people dying in Ukraine.”

We need some more fireworks in DC from the conservatives in congress! So what if you can’t win in the vote, get your butts out there and be heard! Crickets seem to be in vogue these days!

Ask Biden for 20 billion for the tribes and they will help you setup the fireworks and provide rain in case of fires.

Why do the Native American Tribes oppose fireworks over Mt. Rushmore? They claim that the land is sacred. Is Mt. Rushmore sacred land like everything in Islam is sacred land? It is only sacred land when it serves a political or gives the tribes an upper hand financially. It is a bunch of mountains, rocks, and trees. They can claim that everything is sacred land. As for the threat of wildfires; they held fireworks for years and years. Have there ever been wildfires as a result of the fireworks?

Certainly there is another place in SD for fireworks that will have better accessibility.
Expand the celebration.
Encourage the Native Americans to sell their crafts etc.
Be inclusive.

I'd get everybody to meet near the gate to Mt Rushmore on some private lands and do the show there.

A decade ago they had fire works and native american dancers there every night during the summer, and down the road at crazy horse nightly lazer light shows. If they want to prevent wild fires fjb should ban the wild lightning storms in the black hills.

Invite Trump to hold a rally there, and have the fireworks anyway. Screw 'em.
