In the latest instance of companies downsizing their products amid record inflation in the US, Potato chip giant Frito-Lay revealed Thursday that is has cut down the number of chips in its bags of Doritos.'Inflation is hitting everyone,' a company rep told Quartz Thursday of its decision to trim the size of its 9.75 ounce bag of the cheesy snack to 9.25 ounces - a reduction of five chips, the spokesperson said. The price of the product, meanwhile, usually around $4.29, has remained the same.'We took just a little bit out of the bag so we can give you the same price and you can keep enjoying your chips,'

Food producers have been shrinking product size for decades. Once the size shrinks it never goes back to the original - inflation or no inflation

The size started shrinking decades ago and the price always went up when it happened. Canned goods are the worst. Oreo's has shrink product to about 1/3 less than long ago and the price is ridiculous. Toilet paper rolls are now about 1" shorter lengthwise. That happened about ten years ago. And, as everyone says, they won't ever go back to original size and smaller cost.

This is just the beginning (even though shrinkage for some products has been going on for years). The wheat crops will be severely limited this year. And American farmers are saying they cannot get the fertilizer they need to plant their crops and make a profit. Think about it. A wheat and corn shortage. An absolute disaster for people who eat. Especially the poorer countries who consume most of their calories through wheat products. We are going to be in a world of hurt over food supply issues that will make five corn chips seem clownish. There will not be enough and what is there will be so much more expensive. FJB

Having trouble making ends meet? Thank a Democrat! This is no time to vote Democrat because that's how your family's voted for 100 years! They've all but destroyed this country and should be punished. Remember in November!!

If you use the formula used 3 months ago, it is over 15%. They lie about EVERYthing.

Same old. A "5 lb bag of sugar" has weighed 4 lbs for about 20 years.

Went grocery shopping yesterday. Looked for the pack of burgers I usually buy and noticed that price had not changed. As I picked up the package, it was lighter than usual. Only two burgers instead of the usual four.

I recently helped my wife unwrap the foil from a gazillion Hershey's Kisses for a dessert she was making, and boy have they shrunk!
They were not much larger than the Toll House morsels she used to put in the cookies.

I remember when a half gallon of ice cream became 1 1/2 quarts and the price went up. Think it was some time in the 90s.

Shrinking the amount of product isn't something new. It's been going on for decades. For example, if you're over the age of sixty, look at the size of candy bars. A full-size candy bar from 1965 would be seen as huge by today's candy bar size and they cost a nickel or a dime back then.

Lots of tricks in play to disguise inflation on top of shrinkage; most chip bags are the same size but only two-thirds full. All fast-food burgers have shrunk to the size of the White Castle 15 cent special from the 1950s and the difference between what you get and what you see on the all-black TV commercials is not even close. Medium fries are now small fries. All ice cream products have shrunk. Yes, we notice what you marketing geniuses are doing and will buy accordingly.

I bought my first two boxes of Girl Scout cookies this noon. I was amazed that they were still $5 a box as last several years. When I got home and took a good look, I realized the box is considerably smaller, and I imagine at 9 oz is lighter too. Despite this, and the Rosie O'donnell national leadership types, I will still happily support their efforts. When I look at the smiling young faces of girls from my hometown, I cannot blame them for inflation, or their leadership. And those thin mints are irresistible! Also Tagalongs and Samoas.

#19, you might want to re-think that. The Girl Scouts, for the last 2 decades at least, have been all about radical feminism and pro-abortion. They are no different than the public schools in that regard. I haven’t bought any cookies since the 90s.
