Wisdom from my father

Original Article

Sometimes I feel sorry for Barack Obama. Though we grew up in the same era — indeed, were born less than two months apart — he had a very different upbringing. The title of his first autobiography says it all: Dreams from My Father. Unlike young Barack, I was blessed with a present father who took an active hand in raising me — a hand that, on rare occasions, wielded an old wooden paddle. I got a lot more than just dreams from my father. I received love, affection, counsel, discipline, and direction.

Comments:

An excellent commentary. His father and mine had a lot in common, but mine is gone, sadly.
He repeats many sayings that my father and mother said to me when I was growing up. My father never explicitly told me to be sure to finish a fight, but when I asked for some tips on how to fight more effectively, he gave me some boxing pointers that he learned from his USN boxing experience rather than tell me not to fight. It helped me immensely in beating a particular bully. "The world doesn't owe you a living" was a common saying in my household, too. And a lesson well learned.

So sad watching what the younger generations have become! And in some ways, it's our fault! Participation trophies replaced working hard and striving for success, No Cut policies allowing anyone to participate regardless of talent, Hands off instead of protecting yourself from bullies. It's a darned shame!

I could never feel sorry for Obola for what he and Biden have done to us but he will have less trouble with inflation at his villas than most of us.

The Great (Destructive) Reset of Capitalism 10 replies

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is promoting a dystopian vision, and it is closer than you think. By 2030, it says, “You will own nothing and you’ll be happy.” Ownership and control will be vested in a handful of government leaders and a cabal of the wealthiest individuals in the world. You will lose more than just your possessions. Under the WEF’s “Great Reset,” individual freedom, personal responsibility, and opportunities for growth and self-fulfillment will be eroded away. Democracy, the free market and national sovereignty will be replaced by a new world order, stakeholder capitalism and centralized control by some NGOs, globalist corporations and the elite.

A few years back, I was walking through a seedy Miami neighborhood when I heard a woman’s scream. I rushed forward and saw a hefty young black man pulling the purse from a fiftyish Latina, who was clutching the purse strap like her life depended on it. Fearing my interference would end badly for me, I nonetheless ran toward the man yelling, “Hey! Let it go!” He then released the purse and scurried away. I recalled the incident over the weekend, watching two new samples of the Action Heroine fantasy Hollywoke keeps trying to shove down viewers’ throats, even as they spit it out.

any observers are questioning the mental health of Vladimir Putin, including here at this publication, and for very good reason. After all, what kind of leader engages in such brute activity toward the people of a neighboring country who have done nothing to earn his savage rage? Yes, what sort of man? It is high time that I publicly share in print a story about Putin that I’ve shared with my students for several years now, since it was first told to me. I’m publishing it here for the first time. Vladimir Putin has an assortment of hounds. Think “Hound of the Baskervilles” sort of hounds.
Russia has Forgotten the Hard Lessons

Russia learned some hard lessons when it invaded Finland in November 1939. Today in Ukraine, it’s become clear that those lessons didn’t “stick,” at least not among Russia’s decision-makers. In the winter of 1939, Russia – having just conquered half of Poland after Germany had already knocked that country out of the war – decided that war was good business. So they invaded Finland. In Poland, the Soviets re-took land that had been under the control of Czarist Russia for two centuries before it was divided away from Russia at the treaty of Versailles. Repeating that strategy, on November 30, 1939, Russia attacked Finland

Two healthy middle-aged females returned to almost their normal daily activities after taking daily antihistamines for long COVID, according to a recently published case report. The researchers noted long COVID is a chronic condition when patients who are infected with the virus have persistent symptoms that extend beyond the typical time frame for the infection to resolve, but the illness currently doesn’t have any evidence-based treatments to guide how to manage it. "Most patients tell us that providers have not recommended anything that has helped," said co-author Melissa Pinto, associate professor at the University of California, Irvine Sue and Bill Gross School of Nursing.

The United States remains in a heightened threat environment fueled by several factors, including an online environment filled with false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories, and other forms of mis- dis- and mal-information (MDM) introduced and/or amplified by foreign and domestic threat actors.

Documents obtained by NATIONAL FILE show that the University of Pennsylvania, which hosts and funds Joe Biden’s think tank called the Penn Biden Center, directly profits from the sale of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna Coronavirus vaccines. The University gets more money if more vaccines are sold. The University of Pennsylvania also gets “milestone payments” when the Biden administration’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves a Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which represents a massive conflict of interest for Biden. BioNTech pays the University of Pennsylvania Board of Trustees directly, and the university is protected from civil liability if people try to sue for “bodily injury” or “death” caused by BioNTech vaccines.

President Biden’s announcement that the United States will ban imports of Russian oil caused the price of crude to surge on Tuesday morning. However, the pain that Americans are set to feel at the gas pump could eventually be offset if Congress were to pass Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, a new study finds. An analysis released Tuesday by the nonpartisan think tank Energy Innovation finds that the climate change provisions of Biden’s now-defunct proposal, such as tax credits for buying new electric vehicles, would have reduced U.S. oil consumption by 2025 by half of the roughly 200,000 barrels of crude oil from Russia

DeSantis is expected to sign the bill into law in the coming days after it passed the state legislature on Tuesday. Chapek told The Hollywood Reporter that he voiced his and his colleagues’ concerns to DeSantis Wednesday morning over the phone, and said that the governor agreed to a follow-up conversation.

President Joe Biden ridiculously promoted his green agenda and advised Americans to purchase massively expensive electric cars so they will unrealistically no longer have to worry about buying gas while deterring “tyrants like Putin” from using fossil fuels as a weapon.“Loosening environmental regulations won’t lower prices. But transforming our economy to run on electric vehicles, powered by clean energy, will mean that no one will have to worry about gas prices. It will mean tyrants like Putin won’t be able to use fossil fuels as a weapon,” the president tweeted.“It should motivate us to accelerate the transition to clean energy,”

The Democrats are well aware of the old adage, “Never let a good crisis go to waste,” and are busy applying it as gas prices spiral out of all control. As PJM’s Chris Queen discussed Monday, Transportation Secretary Pete “Mr. Mom” Buttigieg appeared to be fantastically out of touch when he responded to skyrocketing prices at the pump. “Clean transportation can bring significant cost savings for the American people as well,” asserted Buttigieg. “Last month, we announced a $5 billion investment to build out a nationwide electric vehicle charging network so that people from rural to suburban to urban communities can all benefit from the gas

Most of my life, I assumed that we elected serious politicians and appointed competent people to deal with the country’s complex problems -- the Cold War, the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, the economy, immigration, terrorism, foreign policy, natural disasters, etc. -- major problems that required competent people, serious about addressing (and fixing) the issues. That was then, this is now. (snip) The Peter Principle says that people rise to the level of their incompetence. The advancement of the America-First policy agenda in Washington has been ground down to a halt due to ineffective leadership and Republican infighting within the House of Representatives. This party disunity has left a leadership vacuum that has given progressives in Washington a window to pursue the failed Biden agenda and spend trillions of dollars in the process, leaving future generations of Americans to pay the price. Americans are fed up with this failed agenda and it is showing. Polling and political models indicate that Republicans will regain control of the House of Representatives in the 2022 midterm elections. Republicans must not squander this opportunity
