The Polish government confirmed on late Tuesday that it has made its entire fleet of MIG-29 fighter jets available “immediately and free of charge” to Ukraine. Last week, the Polish government asserted that sending major offensive weapons like fighter jets to Ukraine would be tantamount to “joining [the] conflict” and that NATO was not at war with Russia. Poland will send its entire fleet of MIG-29 fighter jets to the U.S. Air Force base at Rammstein in Germany, the Polish government said in a shock statement Tuesday evening, remarking the aircraft were ready to be handed over “immediately and free of charge.”
OP is so very correct.

I don't care what jets they have. Just load them up with a buttload of b-bams and fire away.

The Poles are very brave and a great ally in that region...but this is very dangerous. There's no telling what Putin may be driven to do. This may send him over the edge. It could greatly escalate on both sides with less and less room and options to back down.

Whoa! The Polish jets went to USAF airbase at Rammstein Germany which is quite a ways flight time from Ukraine. Someone will have to maintain these jets at Rammstein and then refuel on way to Ukraine. If the US maintains these jets ( where they getting the Mig-29 parts?) and then refuels on way back to Ukraine that may be considered act of war by Russia. So, the Poles pulled a fast one and now the US has to decide whether to be complicit in Ukrainian air action.

Russia designed and built these old MIG-29 jets. They have far superior jets today and know all the weaknesses of these old MIGs.
Poland dumbs a bunch of outdated useless jets. Ukraine is going to lose some of their talented and trained jet pilots as they are easy pickings for the superior Russian jets. And the US taxpayers are on the hook for a few billion dollars to provide new F-16's to Poland (which they may not ever get to see, since this is all the excuse Putin needs to expand his invasion to include Poland).
Just another day for the totally inept and ignorant foreign policy of Senile Joe bidet and his administration!!!!

It's not a U - turn. Poland called Binkens bluff. Essentially Poland is saying b******* on all this. The US is lying. We're not going to start WWIII, but if you intend to - well , here's the tools, you start the war. The tools being old Russian MIG - 29s
The complete article is over at Sundance, I would post it , but I'm not very good at doing so.

We're not going to send our young soldiers to Ukraine to protect bidens interest. Keep NATO out of Ukraine - war is over. Very simple.

Trading junkers for good fighters. Not all of the MiGs are even airworthy.
Hell of a deal for the Poles, not for us.

It's Ramstein Air Base not Rammstein.

Keep in mind that half of Ukraine used to BE part of Poland.
It is pretty silly for a NATO country to be buying, flying and paying to maintain Russian planes anyway.
Methinks that part of the reason for sending them to Ramstein first is to change out radio/targeting/tracking/defense tech stuff that it would be "Inconvenient" to have fall into Russian hands.

Russias "More modern Fighters" have not actually been doing so good against Ukraines current air fleet, not many are even being deployed, They cannot seem to fight with more than 2 at a time in the air, occasionally, rarely, 4,
They seem to be lacking in the training and the forward aircontrol capability.
Ukraine lost a bunch that were on the ground when Russia attacked airbases 1st thing., still have pilots/crews ready to go, just not planes enough for them.

#7 nails it. The Poles are giving Blinkin the ol' Italian salute by saying, "Oh yeah, we'll take your F-16s, but we won't put a target on our backs by starting a NATO war w/russia."
"You wanna do it, be our guest."
You see, Blinkin used the media to announce that Poland was gonna do this deal, thinking that would entice Poland to do this deal. Poland outsmarted Blinkin by putting the US on the hot seat as the war monger while still accepting the offer to uptrade their fighters.
Not only that, but the Poles encouraged the rest of Europe to do the same. Poles 1, Blinkin 0.
Oh! Please note Poland's initial response to Blinkin: They tweeted "Fake news!" That, dear readers, was a hat tip to the real president and friend of Poland, Donald J Trump.

Poland is giving away their old Soviet jets, and return USA is supposed to swap them out with F-16s. Pretty good deal if you're Poland, but again increases US involvement in this dangerous foreign entanglement.
