Cloth masks do little to prevent the spread of COVID-19, or other airborne diseases, a new study finds. Researchers from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom found that 90 percent of particles could get through cloth masks, making them effectively useless during the pandemic.(Snip)Now, though, experts have discovered that these masks were doing little if anything to actually stop the spread of the virus, and likely contributed to spread as people who believed they were acting safely were not doing so. Researchers, who published their findings Tuesday in Physics of Fluids, built an airflow simulation using 3d imaging to gauge how well different masks

Kamala Harris just took dumbing down to a whole new level. During an appearance on the syndicated “Morning Hustle” radio program, Harris was asked by co-host Headkrack to explain the conflict “in layman’s terms for people who don’t understand what’s going on and how can this directly affect the people of the United States?” Speaking slowly, Harris began, “So, Ukraine is a country in Europe.” “It exists next to another country called Russia,” she continued. “Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So, basically, that’s wrong, and it goes against everything that we stand for.”

A Jackson County judge Tuesday denied a motion to dismiss the criminal cases against three men accused in a plot to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer because their lawyers had argued the FBI entrapped their clients. Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Wilson said an FBI investigation, which involved the use of an informant identified in court only as Dan, did not "escalate" the alleged plot by the Michigan-based militia Wolverine Watchmen to kidnap Whitmer.
The alleged plot, which prosecutors have said was spawned in anger over Whitmer's COVID-19 policies and mandates at the start of the pandemic, was foiled in October of 2020.

Newark—By 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, every worker at New Jersey’s hospitals, nursing homes, and all other health care facilities in the state will be required to have gotten a COVID booster shot, or lose their jobs. It’s a situation that could result in patient care being compromised—possibly severely—due to facilities being short-staffed. However, the head of the state’s largest hospital is convinced that the state will allow a grace period, in order to avoid the worst possible scenario.(Snip)Travis Dennis, a laundry worker at University Hospital, said that he’d gotten his booster. Nonetheless, he said, he resented that there is a mandate requiring it.

The man accused of smearing feces on a woman’s face in a revolting Bronx attack has an arrest record dating back 23 years, cops said Tuesday. Frank Abrokwa, 37, has been arrested more than 20 times since 1999, according to the NYPD. His most recent bust was on Feb. 22—a day after the vile attack underground—when he allegedly menaced an employee of a Bronx business with a screwdriver during a robbery, cops said. The Bronx District Attorney’s Office didn’t immediately provide information on Abrokwa’s robbery case.(Snip)Mayor Eric Adams called the incident a “horrific experience for anyone to go through” at an unrelated press conference Monday afternoon.

President Biden will promote a new “988” crisis hotline and outline funding to combat the harmful effects of social media when he devotes a portion of his State of the Union Address to the “unprecedented mental health crisis” in the country, the White House said. The three-digit hotline is available in some parts of the country, but a July launch will make it available nationwide as part of an interconnected network of local crisis centers that can respond to calls and texts. Mr. Biden plans to propose nearly $700 million in funding in his fiscal 2023 budget to “staff up and shore up” local crisis centers.

In my years at the White House–as a speechwriter to Presidents Richard Nixon and Jerry Ford (1972-1975) and then as director of the entire presidential speechwriting operation for Ronald Reagan (1981-1983)–the looming deadline of a State of the Union Address always marked the winter of a presidential wordsmith's discontent.(Snip)Unfortunately, President Biden–fragile, creaky, cranky and increasingly disoriented, and with no consistent core message or convictions–is everything Ronald Reagan wasn't and nothing that he was. Watching the Biden presidency slowly dissolve is like sitting through a third-rate production of Shakespeare's 'King Lear' being played for laughs. But there's nothing funny about the negative results

The past six months have been rough for Will, a 43-year-old Afghan who worked for two years as an interpreter for the U.S. military.
He is struggling for food and income and has moved from the Logar province into Kabul—close to the airport where, he hopes, he will one day be spirited out by the Americans. He has heard nothing from the State Department. “I am not safe here,” he told The Washington Times by email. “Did I make mistake to work with U.S. Army as interpreter?” “Why [is the U.S.] punishing me like this?” said Will, whose real name is being withheld for his safety.

A Seattle bakery owner has slammed city leaders after she says she was forced to close her shop due to the record-breaking high levels of crime. Piroshky Piroshky bakery owner Olga Sagan, 38, made the tough decision after she constantly found the entrance blocked with drug users who refused to move—and she says the Seattle Police Department did nothing to help. The last straw was when a man was shot dead just round the corner from the city center bakery. 'How many shootings do we need to have to realize this is an active emergency in downtown Seattle?' Sagan told The Seattle Times.

Cybersecurity company Symantec’s researchers discovered a China-linked cyber espionage tool and worked with the Biden administration to sound the alarm to targets. Symantec said the Daxin malware was the most advanced it has seen used by a China-linked cyberattacker. The researchers think it was deployed in a longstanding espionage campaign against governments and critical infrastructure targets in the telecommunications, transportation and manufacturing sectors.
“There is strong evidence to suggest the malware, Backdoor.Daxin, which allows the attacker to perform various communications and data-gathering operations on the infected computer, has been used as recently as November 2021 by attackers linked to China,” Symantec’s researchers said Monday

Videos from California showing teens looting a Walgreens and a shoplifter casually strolling out of a Ross clothing store with multiple pairs of shoes have surfaced as retail stores battle an increase in shameless shoplifting. In footage from Walgreens that surfaced Sunday, three people pry open a locked shelf and fill garbage bags with merchandise. Customers and staff watch helplessly as the store is ransacked. At one point, a new customer walks in with a cart and quickly notices the brazen theft happening to his left. In video from the discount retailer Ross, a woman walks out of the store with multiple pairs of shoes hanging from her hands.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie launched into former President Trump with dismay over his comments describing Vladimir Putin as 'very savvy' and a 'genius.' Christie, a former close advisor to Trump who trained him for his debates in 2020, wrote on Twitter: 'How can anyone with any understanding of the world call Putin's decision to invade Ukraine "genius" and "very savvy" as we watch him unite the rest of the world against Russia in nearly an instant?'
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has triggered aggressive sanctions the world over-even typically neutral nations like Sweden and Switzerland have joined the European Union's sanctions plan to starve and isolate the Russian

People live on city sidewalks, in parks, and on subway platforms and in tunnels. Anywhere they please, really, but the only thing that matters is there's a Department of Homeless Services that takes and spends $2.1 billion or more each year, with no results expected or delivered other than the spending, which in the process lines their own pockets.
