Earlier today I credited Alexander Vindman with the hottest take on Ukraine. Vindman blamed Russia’s aggression on conservative pundits in the United States. Because we have so much influence on the Biden administration, apparently. But yesterday my old law professor Larry Tribe went Vindman one better with this bizarre tweet. Which, by the way, was published at 4:09 a.m., not generally seen as a time for clear, sober thinking: Tribe thinks that Tucker Carlson and other unnamed Republicans in the “Trump wing” of the party are guilty of treason, and therefore subject to criminal prosecution and five years’ imprisonment under 18 U.S.C. § 2381. This is sheer lunacy,

Those of us who are pointing out that Putin is executing a wise strategy are just giving the devil his due. None of us support or encourage Putin's land/resources/power grab in Ukraine and elsewhere in Europe and the world (including his pals in China, Iran, North Korea, and other assorted homes of despots). But if we had the mindset of these despots and the idiotic foreign and domestic policy of Sleepy Creepy Crooked President Uncle Joe and his incompetent and corrupt minions, we may be inclined to do the same thing. And hey, please don't push the Doughboy Vindaman back on the Ukrainians. Aren't they suffering enought?

Tribe was in his early and mid 20's during the core years of the Vietnam war. I do not make out from his resume that he volunteered bravely to serve in Vietnam and fight a Russian proxy invading another country. ( I suspect he wouldn't fight bravely if someone spat in grandmother's face.) Indeed I'll bet Tribe opposed the Vietnam war loudly, and surely never called for Jane Fonda's arrest after she glad-handed with the North Vietnamese. Should Tribe, Jane and the anti-war left have been thrown in jail?

Ahead of a likely Russian invasion of Ukraine, State Department spokesman Ned Price and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki spent Wednesday afternoon under fire from establishment media reporters and, of course, Fox’s Peter Doocy over the administration’s flip-flop on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, the failure to deter Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the impact the war could have on the U.S. economy. Price went first and, from the get-go, the always-tough and persistent Matt Lee of the Associated Press went right to the news that Germany had suspended Nord Stream 2 from Russia and the U.S. would sanction the company (after having opposed doing so for a year).

The White House is reportedly worried Elon Musk would be a bad guest if invited to meet with President Biden — a target of frequent mockery by the Tesla founder. Some of Biden’s top advisers have purportedly warned against inviting Musk to the White House over fears he would say something to embarrass the administration. The billionaire has repeatedly slammed the White House for failing to mention Tesla while discussing its plans for major nationwide investments in electric vehicles. Biden and his close advisers are said to be irritated with Musk’s public criticism and have no immediate plans to invite him to the White House for future events,

Two prosecutors working on a sweeping criminal fraud probe of the Trump Organization have resigned, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office confirmed Wednesday. Mark Pomerantz and Carey Dunne were key figures in the ongoing probe that has already led to fraud and tax evasion charges against the company and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg. In an email to CBS News, Danielle Filson, a spokesperson for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, said, "We are grateful for their service." "The investigation is ongoing. We can't comment further," Filson wrote.

Aren’t these the same Democrats who hailed obstructive protests in American cities during the spring and summer of 2020? Yes indeed, although one can say in some fairness that the wind blows through both parties a bit when it comes to who’s protesting and how. A new Trafalgar poll shows Democrats have become big fans of Justin Trudeau and his use of wartime emergency powers to shut down a non-violent but still obstructive truckers’ protest over COVID-19 mandates in Canada. And when I say “big fans,” I mean … yuuuuuuge (via Leah Barkoukis): That’s a nearly 4:1 level of support for Trudeau’s “handling” of the protest

Republican Nick Howland flipped a Jacksonville, Florida, city council seat in a heavy Democrat district that swung for President Biden in 2020. Duval County election results from Tuesday night showed that Howland defeated Democrat Trayce Polson with a sizeable majority of 68,599 votes versus her 64,113 votes – 51.69 percent versus 48.31 percent. “With Howland’s victory, Republicans hold a 14-5 margin over Democrats in the City Council,” reported First Coast News. The seat was left vacant in September 2021 due to the death of Tommy Hazouri. Though a special election was held in December of that year, neither of the four candidates in the race were able to garner 50 percent

White House press secretary Jen Psaki took a lot of questions on Tuesday about Russia invading Ukraine (again or still, if you like) during her briefing. But if you thought that she would provide any greater sense than her stumbling, slurring boss, you would be mistaken. Psaki said they wanted to “avoid a large-scale invasion” of Ukraine by Russia. They still can’t escape from Biden’s “minor incursion” remark, which signaled to Putin that Biden wasn’t going to respond with the toughest sanctions. Putin has Biden’s number; he knows that, even now, they’re still having difficulty calling it an “invasion.”

Some of the districts that will likely fall to Republicans from Democrats’ grasp have not been finalized by state legislatures or courts. However, Punchbowl estimated the following districts will change from blue to red:

Nearly 24 hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine under the guise of recognizing the autonomy of parts of the Donbas region, US President Joe Biden finally mustered a response. Showing up almost two hours late for what was supposed to be an incredibly urgent address (they even moved the start time up, only for him to miss his mark by a mile), the president stumbled and slurred his way through his remarks, outlining a series of incredibly weak sanctions and previewing more pain in the wallet for the average American. Biden wasn’t done for the day, though. He immediately entered a meeting about “green” energy initiatives, attended by

President Joe Biden described events now underway in Ukraine as "the beginning of a Russian invasion" as he unveiled new sanctions to punish Moscow on Tuesday. He laid out what he called a "first tranche" of US sanctions against Russia for its moves, including on two financial institutions, Russian sovereign debt and — starting Wednesday — on Russian elites and their family members. Biden also announced he was moving additional troops and equipment to "strengthen" US allies in Europe, but made clear they would not be there to "fight Russia." The President held out the possibility that diplomacy could still defuse the crisis, and said the US would remain open to talking

I wrote on Monday night how the “chickens of weakness had come home to roost for Joe Biden,” when it came to Russia and Ukraine. Joe Biden has done everything but physically bend over and say, “Thank you, sir, may I have another?” in his relationship with Vladimir Putin. Even after Putin issued a declaration recognizing Donetsk and Luhansk, two regions of Ukraine, as independent nations — a prelude to invasion — Biden’s response was weak in the extreme. He said that they would prohibit Americans from trading in those two regions. A senior administration official even said that units moving into the area might not be enough to trigger
