Two prosecutors working on a sweeping criminal fraud probe of the Trump Organization have resigned, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office confirmed Wednesday. Mark Pomerantz and Carey Dunne were key figures in the ongoing probe that has already led to fraud and tax evasion charges against the company and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg. In an email to CBS News, Danielle Filson, a spokesperson for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, said, "We are grateful for their service." "The investigation is ongoing. We can't comment further," Filson wrote.

Notice how CBS leaves out the part they resigned over doubt about the case.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine isn’t going as easily as I think Vladimir Putin thought it would go. As we noted earlier, they are facing some tough fighting from the Ukrainians as well as thousands of protesters in Russia who have come out against the war. That’s quite something, given the oppressive state of Russia and how they would face immediate retribution. Yet, protesters have come out anyway. Ukraine fought back to recapture an airport the Russians had taken. So, Russia isn’t going to be able to do what they wanted because they haven’t met the goals they were trying to meet by now – which was to seize all

Thursday afternoon, nearly a day after Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, President Joe Biden finally addressed the public. Whatever the reason for the delay, it certainly did nothing to dispel the notion that the administration had been caught flat-footed. Yes, they had been “predicting” an invasion for the better part of a month, but that’s a far cry away from having an actual strategy in place to deal with such one. Regardless, Biden took the podium and delivered remarks in which he touted a new sanctions package that he claimed would be devastating for Vladimir Putin. But, with the emergence of more details on exactly what is and isn’t

Explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv early Friday as Russian forces pressed on with a full-scale invasion that resulted in the deaths of more than 100 Ukrainians in the first full day of fighting and could eventually rewrite the global post-Cold War security order. After using airstrikes on cities and military bases, Russian military units moved swiftly to take on Ukraine's seat of government and its largest city in what U.S. officials suspect is a brazen attempt by Russian President Vladimir Putin to dismantle the government and replace it with his own regime. Ukrainian leaders pleaded for help as civilians piled into trains and cars to flee

Washington- Biden administration will significantly loosen federal mask-wearing guidelines to protect against COVID-19 transmission on Friday, according to two people familiar with the matter, meaning most Americans will no longer be advised to wear masks in indoor public settings. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday will announce a change to the metrics it uses to determine whether to recommend face coverings, shifting from looking at COVID-19 case counts to a more holistic view of risk from the coronavirus to a community. Under current guidelines, masks are recommended for people residing in communities of substantial or high transmission — roughly 95% of U.S. counties, according to the latest data.

The main argument presented by Vladimir Putin for his all-out war on Ukraine certainly sounded strange to Western ears, and especially to Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky. In his address to both Ukraine and Russia, Putin insisted that Russian security relied on the “demilitarization and de-Nazification of Ukraine.” “How can I be a Nazi?” Zelensky replied. Zelensky not only is himself Jewish, but as he pled in return, his grandfather fought for the Russians against the Nazis: Addressing the Russian public directly and in Russian, his native language, Zelenskiy said: “The Ukraine on your news and Ukraine in real life

Former President Barack Obama issued a message of support for President Joe Biden on Thursday, urging Americans to unite behind economic sanctions against Russia. “Every American, regardless of party, should support President Biden’s efforts, in coordination with our closest allies, to impose hard-hitting sanctions on Russia,” Obama said in a statement sent to reporters, defending Biden’s sanctions as a serious attempt to put “a real price on Russia’s autocratic elites.” Obama’s statement of support for Biden follows his own failure to stop Putin from annexing Crimea in 2014 when he was president. The former president also urged Americans to embrace any economic pain that they would suffer

Joe Biden said some unbelievable things during his remarks on Thursday about Russia’s invasion in Ukraine. Chief among them was this remark that jumped out to many: that “no one expected sanctions would prevent anything.” Huh, what? Then what has the Biden team been talking about, by threatening sanctions over the past month? If they thought that, why have they just been talking about sanctions? Why did Kamala Harris claim that the sanctions would deter Putin?Biden also tripped over White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, who said the same thing. She even claimed that the sanctions had worked, as we observed. Boy, what earth-shattering consistency they have there, right?

All Ukrainian border guards manning a tiny island in the Black Sea near Romania were killed on Thursday after telling a Russian warship to 'go f*** yourselves' when they were ordered to surrender. The small contingent of soldiers, allegedly 13 in number, were posted on Snake Island in the Odesa region and were defending the territory after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In a radio message, the soldiers were told by a sailor on board the vessel: 'This is Russian warship. '[We] Suggest you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and needless victims. Otherwise you will be shelled.'

In the states and cities where immunity passports are still required, people have been told that they need to be “fully vaccinated” to be in compliance. For most people, that means two initial shots spaced three (for Pfizer) or four weeks (for Moderna) apart followed by a booster shot roughly six months later. Of course, those definitions have been changed by the CDC on a regular basis. They recently suggested that the boosters should be given as soon as four months after the initial injections because people’s immunity was fading too quickly. But now they’re even walking back the spacing of the initial two shots, at least for some people.

President Biden announced new sanctions on Russian banks in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine on Thursday, but declined to make good on his threat to sanction Vladimir Putin directly or to cut Russia off from the international banking system entirely. “We’ve now sanctioned Russian banks that together hold around $1 trillion in assets,” Biden told reporters at the White House. Biden noted that the U.S. had already cut off Russia’s largest bank from the U.S. financial system. “And today, we’re also blocking four more major banks. That means every asset they have in America will be frozen,” Biden said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a pre-dawn attack against Ukraine on Thursday. Explosions were heard in major cities in the Eastern European nation, with at least 40 people reported dead. Ukrainian authorities said Russian forces had hit military assets and other defense facilities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country has severed diplomatic relations with Russia, adding that “Ukraine is defending itself and shall not cede its freedom.” President Joe Biden condemned the attack, calling it an "unprovoked and unjustified attack." He also said the world would hold Putin accountable for the invasion.

The Utah Republican blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine on a decade and more of U.S. weakness, also alluding to former President Donald Trump’s foreign-policy slogan. “Putin’s impunity predictably follows our tepid response to his previous horrors in Georgia and Crimea, our naive efforts at a one-sided ‘reset’ and the shortsightedness of ‘America First,’” he said. At least one criminal case that Democrat activists filed against Trump may be ending with a whimper. You may recall that there’s a criminal fraud case against Trump in Manhattan. To the New York Times’s manifest despair, it seems that there is no evidence of an actual crime. Things are so bad that two of the lead prosecutors on the case quit when the District Attorney expressed serious doubt in the case. In 2018, Cyrus Vance, Jr., Manhattan’s then-District Attorney, charged the Trump Organization and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, with tax fraud allegedly related to overvaluing properties to obtain bank loans.
