A California city has approved a law forcing gun owners to have insurance and pay an annual $25 fee.
“Certainly, the Second Amendment protects every citizen’s right to own a gun. It does not require taxpayers to subsidize that right,” Democratic San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said, according to CNN.
Gun owners are also required under the law to have insurance. The law, which received its first approval in January, will need approval on a second reading this month before it can go on the books, taking effect in August.
Even before the second reading, a lawsuit has been filed to block the process.

Voting is a right and a poll tax is not legal.

Obviously the long term plan here is to eliminate gun ownership unless, of course, you are a criminal with an unregistered gun. The $25 fee will grow quickly until it is mostly unaffordable. Clearly unconstitutional. I’m sure other liberal cities are watching this one closely.

The wannabe dictators are crawling from under the baseboards now. Citizens, it's time to stand up for your rights - before you know it, you won't have any rights.

Legal precedents galore: black communities have higher poverty rates and are less able to pay for their rights than White Supremacists like Mayor Fascist. Jim Crow is back in Democrat California. Sal says: Make them play by their own rules.

Hmmm...what ammendment gives everyone the right to an abortion? Why should those opposed to abortion be forced to subsidize it?

I predict lots of guns in this CA town will be lost due to 'unfortunate boating accidents.'

When they figure out that they are hurting single women and the low income black women who have guns for protection, they might change their mind. I say might, because I don't believe they care anymore how many kids and women they endanger.

I shouldn't be required to subsidize the right of people to illegally invade our country, have anchor babies, or have welfare babies! I shouldn't be required to pay for medical care for dope heads. I shouldn't have to pay to protect a foreign countries borders, or build their border walls. I shouldn't have to protect another countries pipelines when we can't have one. I shouldn't have to subsidize windmills, solar farms and electric cars. And I definently shouldn't have to pay for abortions. The list could go on forever.

Who came up with this hare brain policy? "It's for the people!" Give me a break! The Mayor might think this is for the "good" but he hasn't thought of the unintended consequences. Like criminals not paying the tax, stealing guns, committing crimes etc.
What kind of insurance is the City forcing gun owners into? Who gets the money? Does the dead perp of a crime get the money from this insurance?

If this stands, what's to stop government((s) - federal, state, local)) from making you pay a fee and / or get insurance before you post a comment on line? You might hurt someone's feelings and the state needs to protect others from that.

This should be taken as a violation of civil rights under the Civil Rights act of 1964. (At least I think it was 1964.) Criminal penalties accrue for such violations.

Sam, can't you read?
SHALL... NOT... BE..INFRINGED... Infringed is a word, you know, with distinct and narrow meanings.
It's a pity there isn't some immediate penalty for politicians who violate the Constitution - but the Democrats have such a history of using any legal document to say the opposite of what it means, that I suppose it's for the best.

Dem pols ignore our, ''inalienable Rights.'' Better require them to actually read the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights! They are trashing their own oaths of Office by ignoring them.

Making lawful gun owners pay for criminal acts of others which they have elected not to stop
Consider this: the state is forcing payment for you to engage in protected acts. If this survives they will make us pay for our 1st Amendment and others.
