One way of understanding the 2009-2014 Obama Administration policy of “reset” with Vladimir Putin’s Russia is to recall two iconic incidents.
The first was the 2009 “reset.”
Newly appointed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced that she would pursue a “reset” détente with Russia. America would relax the prior Bush Administration’s mild ostracism of Russia after its 2008 invasion of Georgia and softly start anew.
The second was President Barack Obama’s hot mic moment in March 2012 in Seoul, South Korea. Obama got caught asking Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to reassure Vladimir Putin.

What an excellent narrative and review of history put in an understandable timeline that gave the US the expected results in promoting Russia to the detriment of our own welfare. The only interruption was MAGA.

Obama mentioned missile defense. Which seems to me to have pretty much nothing to do with an invasion of Georgia. I've always thought the "reset" button was an apology for the cold war because Hillary and Obama were always pro-communism and felt we should have been supporting the USSR.
The motivation for the democrats to oppose Russia today is only because Russia has moved so far from communism and much closer to capitalism.
Every time I look for an explanation of anything and everything the democrats and the supporting organizations do I find that a support of communism is the consistent explanation.

Let's revisit Syria...and what was our national interest at stake? Anyone? How about Ukraine? National interest there? If anything, both incursions demonstrate the ineffectiveness of NATO as a military deterrent. Likewise the UN Security Council. NATO is the US in every "You-and-him" fight scenario that comes across Europe. What was once an anti-communist alliance has become a military joke, with the effete Euros playing the US macho instinct for what it's worth. They just can't defend themselves - someone might get hurt, or yell Nazi at a certain major "ally" that invariably does nothing of value anywhere needed. If RUSSIA is such a monster, why aren't the Euros armed to the teeth, rushing to mobilize? Mainly because the USA will first. The US needs to heed George Washington's advice about "old Europe" and entangling alliances. Look around, we're the Leaders of the Free Loaders...and $30 TRILLION in debt.

The American left's committment to Russia starts off this way....'Vladimir, we are just as corrupt as you. So let's work together so we both can achieve our goals.'

Excellent reminders on background, but rather than coming to the conclusion that Putin is a predator, it really shows the swamp and deep state have been double dealing with Russia and are now trying to gin up a profitable war to replace the Afghanistan windfalls.
