Only Fightin' Roy Blunt has been a more dynamic and energetic Senate leader than Fearsome John Thune. Fightin' Roy usually takes all the oxygen out of a room - - but when he leaves - - Fearsome John will have the field to himself. Fearsome John will make the demonrats tremble in fear - - he'll dominate the airwaves - - the cable waves - - and the permanent waves. His eloquence - - his powerful writing - - and his brilliant strategic thinking - - will bring a glorious new day to America. I couldn't possibly be more excited than I am! You were great, Fightin' Roy - - but now Fearsome John is The Man!

#14, it's because men like McConnell and Thune are best positioned to win a majority of the votes of their GOP Senate colleagues. Not likely that a Tom Cotton or a Josh Hawley could pull that off. We should know by now that strong conservatives are a minority among the House and Senate GOP delegations.

RINO puke. Things will never change with the Republican party. Sick of hearing how we can't have a new party. Watch what happens when the Republicans get control of Congress in 2022. Suddenly, they will get amnesia about all they promised to do, and for the next two years they will work mightily towards losing the elections in 2024.

You can start a new party, # 18, but it will wither and die just as all third parties do. And GOP control of congress might stymie some of the worst excesses of the administration. That is all we can hope for in 2023-24.

President Joe Biden has responded to a new annual inflation reading of 7 percent, the highest level in 40 years, by blaming global causes and insisting his administration is making 'progress' on the issue. Persistent supply chain issues have left grocery shelves bare across the nation this week, drawing comparisons to conditions in the former Soviet Union and putting further upward pressure on prices. The Labor Department said Wednesday that the consumer price index rose 0.5 percent last month after surging 0.8 percent in November. It pushed annual inflation to 7 percent in December, the highest increase since June 1982, and up from November's 6.8 percent annual rate.

Routine definitions of the word “citizen” include such phrases as a “person who legally belongs to a country and has the rights and protection of that country” and a person “who owes allegiance to a government and is entitled to protection from it.” The common point is the transaction — a citizen gives something and gets something, as does the government. One of those rights that has universally distinguished citizens from noncitizens is the right to vote. Unfortunately, we can now add that distinction to history’s trash heap thanks to the far left’s war on the nation’s culture and legal systems.

Most Americans today have a romanticized (and extraordinarily narrow) historical understanding of the conflict that we call the Civil War. In their imaginations, it goes something like this: With passions inflamed by a moral renaissance in the North regarding the institution of slavery in the South, the two sides decided to go to war over the issue. In the end, the evil South was righteously razed by the armies of the North, and thus, slavery was ended, and the former slaves made American citizens, as Abraham Lincoln intended.
