Since the 45th president first leapt from the world of business and media into politics, pundits have speculated endlessly about the origin of his populism. To the 21st century reporter and even casual observer, Trump’s aggressive and bombastic tribunesque populism appeared to come out of nowhere. Critics looked quickly at foreign political examples, such as Mussolini or Hitler, conflating the use of personal political charisma with the worst who ever employed it.
But perhaps the real role model came from closer to home.
About the same time that Donald Trump emerged to impose his will on the real estate market in New York City,

As RedState has reported on extensively, the so-called “Build Back Better” bill is currently dead. Joe Manchin finally put the nail in the coffin, announcing his opposition over the weekend. Since then, the coping and seething has been entertaining, with figures like Bernie Sanders angrily lashing out.
But that’s all these Democrats can do. They have no other move to make here to try to get their agenda passed. Yelling at clouds will have to do, and Chuck Schumer is vowing to throw a fit that will ultimately screw his own members. [Tweet]
So Schumer’s big plan is to force a vote that will fail?

Five heartless thieves were busted for looting the ravaged homes of tornado victims in Kentucky, officials said.
The group of looters allegedly went to an area “particularly hit hard by the tornado” on Friday and ransacked the destroyed homes, according to Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden.
Law enforcement officers from several agencies quickly converged on the group who were stopped while trying to flee the area with several damaged vehicles in tow.
The vehicles “were owned by tornado victims that have been displaced by the tornado, in the hospital, and/or deceased,” Hayden said.
When confronted by officers, group members gave contradicting stories with some claiming they had received permission to be there,

It’s the great Candy Cane Crisis of 2021.
Weakness in peppermint crops and COVID-caused logistical issues have created a problem for Big Candy.
“We only received half of our candy cane order for the holiday season and sold out almost immediately. We currently have zero in stock,” Mitchell Cohen, the owner of Economy Candy on the Lower East Side, told The Post. “Raw material and ingredient shortages globally have had quite an impact.”
It was a first for the store, which has been in business since 1937. Cohen said they sold more than 12,000 candy canes before running dry.
“Since candy canes were invented, we’ve had candy canes,” he said.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Sunday said Floridians know that he will not "let anybody lock them down" or take their jobs away.
"At the end of the day in Florida, Floridians know we will not let anybody lock them down. We will not let anyone take their jobs," DeSantis said. "We will not let anyone ruin their businesses, and we will not let anyone close their schools, so people are going to be able to live life. [snip]
"I cannot believe that something that started with 15 days to slow the spread," DeSantis said. "Now, almost two years later, you're seeing lockdowns and closures."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the State began construction of its own border wall. The announcement comes as construction crews began erecting bollard walls in the Rio Grande Valley Sector on Texas-owned property.
“Texas has officially started building its own border wall,” Governor Abbott tweeted on Friday. “Texas is stepping up to do the federal government’s job.” [Tweet]
“Three billion dollars of Texas taxpayer money has been devoted to this cause of Texas securing the border, and so we have a lot of money available to us to continue to build the wall,” the Texas governor said during an interview on Fox News’ “Varney & Co.”

Well, isn’t this interesting.
Pfizer on Friday said the Covid pandemic will continue through the 2022 midterms and could extend to 2024.
Just in time for the general election.
Is this also an admission the Covid vaccines don’t work?
Reuters reported:
Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) on Friday forecast that the COVID-19 pandemic would not be behind us until 2024 and said a lower-dose version of its vaccine for 2- to 4-year-olds generated a weaker immune response than expected, potentially delaying authorization.
Pfizer Chief Scientific Officer Mikael Dolsten said in a presentation to investors that the company expects some regions to continue to see pandemic levels of COVID-19 cases over the next year or two.

December is to Antifa as Godzilla was to Tokyo, and it’s just in time for Christmas!
After over a year of watching many of the violent thugs walk away from justice, December 2021 is proving to be a nightmare for the Democrats’ commie street urchins. The man-bunned Nancy-bois of Antifa are actually starting to see the insides of jails and prisons. Santa DOES read my wish list!
Let’s take a look at some of the non-binary creatures who will be celebrating Christmas, and perhaps a few more Christmases, in orange jumpsuits.
Salad-dodger Jacob Michael Gaines traveled from Texas to Oregon to play tough gal with federal law enforcement.

Frequently, the week’s top knucklehead earns this dreaded honor for a singular, overwhelmingly idiotic action or statement which is supported by other, underlying knuckleheadedness. Occasionally, however, we come across a candidate who inexplicably decides to engage in rapid fire ridiculousness by repeatedly saying or doing one stupid thing after another. Such was the case this week with the incomparable Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
There are undoubtedly some smug, leftist elites who will dismiss the idea that Pocahontas can be a knucklehead. They’ll lecture, “She’s an academic, she’s intelligent,” and then they’ll point to her Ivy League “background.” For starters, Liz Warren never graduated from an Ivy League school.

In the wake of the terrible tragedy that has befallen our central and southern United States by some of the deadliest tornados systems experienced, Americans across the nation are doing all they can to help one another. Donations in the form of food, money, blood, clothing, hotel rooms, and labor have been offered by countless Americans and businesses.
Today we learned that Mike Lindell plans to donate more than 10,000 of his pillows to victims of the Tornados in Kentucky. He plans to pass them out on Christmas Eve! [Tweet]
Of course, nothing is ever good enough for the twitter trolls.

I had coffee recently with a friend of mine, a retired FBI agent. We were talking about the mess the FBI has become. He’s even more disturbed about the politicization of the bureau than I am. During our talk he said something very interesting: “Current agents are just keeping their heads down and following orders.” A simple statement with profound implications.
Jobs in law enforcement are fundamentally different than other jobs. That difference is the oath that all law enforcement officers swear. The FBI oath states:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States

The California Department of Education is facing questions over why it is paying a six figure salary to an individual who has been tasked with overseeing “equity” initiatives in the state’s schools despite his residing in Philadelphia which is over 2,500 miles away.
According to a report by Politico, Daniel Lee, who is described as a “psychologist, life coach and self-help author,” was hired to serve as California’s first superintendent of equity, a capacity that he has served in since last summer where he pulls down a salary of “up to $179,832” despite a resume that “shows no prior experience in California or relationships with school districts in the state.”
