Texas Gov. Abbott shows completed section

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott debuted the first part of the state-made border wall Saturday, which he labeled a sharp rebuke of Biden’s "failure to do his job."Abbott authorized the building of the wall six months ago, and then authorized $3 billion funding for the Texas Facilities Commission to bolster the building effort. Abbott stressed that the wall stands on either state land or land that private owners agreed to hand over for the wall. "Texas is taking what truly is unprecedented action: A state to build a wall on our border, to safeguard the sovereignty of our state and of our nation," Abbott said during Saturday's press conference.

From the Texas Scorecard Newsletter: Yesterday we reported on Gov. Greg Abbott creating a “hotline” for people to call if their employer is requiring them to get a COVID-19 vaccine, so we decided to give the number a call. Turns out, reports Brandon Waltens, this hotline is just the phone number for the Texas Workforce Commission’s unemployment line. There wasn’t even a menu option for reporting “illegal vaccine mandates in Texas.” This faux-hotline was less than the least Gov. Abbott could do. “I called it. I went ahead and used option #3 just to talk to someone,” Charlie T. commented on Facebook. “The workforce employee had NO CLUE what I was talking about. They put me on hold and never came back.” Meanwhile, the Republican Party of Texas and a growing number of GOP lawmakers are calling on the governor to bring the legislature back for a special session to pass legislation banning vaccine mandates.

Thank you #1. This proves what Texans realize about the Abbott administration. We have to take what the Governor says with a grain of salt. We have to listen to what he leaves out in his carefully-crafted statements as much as to what he actually says. We have to follow up and let him know we are watching and expecting progress reports.

I have been a Texan for nearly 65 years. Born, and spent most of my life, here. Yes, Gov. Abbott over-reacted to the Covid virus last year (like everyone, including President Trump) did. It definitely hurt his reputation among conservatives. But, like with President Trump, Gov. Abbott learned from that mistake. From everything I have seen (and I live in Austin, so we see a lot about him), he has been working overboard to earn back his conservative credentials this past 1.5 years. Sadly, his hands are tied in many ways. The governorship just isn't that strong of a position in Texas. Too many people think that he can play dictator like not-my-president Lyin' Joe biden, but the state constitution does not give him anywhere that level of power. At this point, Gov. Abbott has definitely earned back my vote. But I have really appreciated the things he has done this past 1.5 years. This bucking of not-my-president Lyin' Joe biden to get the border fence done is a perfect example.

How long ago did they stop all work on the wall? Why is there now talk of it being restarted? Oh the next election for governor will be in 2022? I'll stick with clear spoken Texan Louie Gohmert standing at the wall with a Fox reporter who didn't even acknowledge any shock when Gohmert said that Fauci should be held accountable for the deaths he has caused. They just rushed to commercial break with no follow up question.

As an observer outside of Texas it seems Abbott says the right things, but never seems to act on them... or acts very slowly. The border has been a problem since Biden was elected. It seems to me after the first month action should have been taken. I remember Rick Perry (gov Texas) also dragging his feet on illegal aliens. The terminology is ILLEGAL ALIENS, not undocumented workers, immigrants, or illegal immigrants. Do not let the Left determine the language!.

It's weird that this is a Fox News article but for some reason it's an MSNBC link. (#3, you owe Fox News an apology.) The actual article on FoxNews has numerous pictures of the fence and is a better article. That one should have been used for the link. https://www.foxnews.com/us/texas-gov-abbott-border-wall-sovereignty-state I love that the Democrat complaining about it says that "It's a fence not a wall". Odd complaint.

Abbott does only enough to generate positive headlines after dithering to the point that no alternative remains. His heart is not in this fight. He then lets the execution details undermine his apparently conservative intent. See this expose of his sending Texas National Guard to "enforce the border". https://texasscorecard.com/state/texas-national-guard-assisting-in-illegal-border-crossings/

The White House was viciously mocked over the weekend after pushing the message that unvaccinated Americans would experience a winter of "severe illness and death" due to the omicron variant of the coronavirus. President Biden, as well as White House COVID response coordinator Jeff Zients, each pushed the messaging last week, with the former issuing the stark and gloomy warning to Americans following a Thursday White House briefing on the pandemic. (Photo) "I want to send a direct message to the American people: Due to the steps we've taken, omicron has not yet spread as fast as it would have otherwise done," Biden said.
