Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole died Sunday morning at age 98, his wife's foundation announced. "It is with heavy hearts we announce that Senator Robert Joseph Dole died early this morning in his sleep," the Elizabeth Dole Foundation tweeted. "At his death, at age 98, he had served the United States of America faithfully for 79 years. More information coming soon. #RememberingBobDole" Dole, the former Kansas GOP senator, announced earlier this year that he was being treated for stage 4 lung cancer.

Comments:

Was he a great senator? Not particularly. Was he a good presidential candidate? No. But Bob Dole was a good man, and a great American. Rest in Peace Senator Dole, and may God bless you.

He was one tough bird. His WWII injuries were nearly fatal but he adapted and went on to accomplishments that very few ever achieve. His generation is nearly gone, and for that we should all mourn. Rest in peace.

A good man, a patriot, but in my hubble opinion part of the problem. He was a get along, go along Republican who was satisfied with being in the minority and when he was Majority Leader he squandered the opportunity to really implement change and fix things. He was a farm boy from Kansas, who became part of the Washington elite and left us peasants to fend for ourselves.

He was my Senator. He told a good story about being conservative and all that, but was a backstabber for gun owners when it came down to it, more than once. I am glad he is no longer a Senator. I honor his military service, but will NOT support his 'politics as usual' backroom deals which screw the voters. I don't hate the man, but I am glad that he is NOT a politician any more and will not pretend that he was a good one. Only rose colored ignorance leads to that view.

I loved his sense of humor. Bob Dole, like G H.W. Bush, was from a generation that could probably not believe that Americans could turn against their own country. He was raised to live a respectable life. He could fight to the death for his country - but he could not fight like that against even the most reprehensible leftists. And they have only gotten worse. I don't blame George Washington and Thomas Jefferson et. al for not having the sensibilities of a 2021 Woke leftist. And I won't blame Bob Dole for it, either. I'm glad I lived to know people like him. I pray that this next generation will give us the fighters we need for these times. Ramona (the Pest)

It was/is an honor and a privilege to have known him, to have worked for him...if people and the press had known and presented his true life story instead of the "Mean Bob Dole" cartoon image, (And had Perot been absent, that 8% came from swing states), he might well have defeated Clinton. In the earliest days of the Campaign, when he had stepped down from the Senate in an "All or nothing" commitment, his first stop was a Union Hall in Toledo, Ohio. Newt recruited me and I quit my job and committed to the Campaign..some of my first events were going into Union Halls, standing on a table and telling his life story, hardcore Dem members would try to drag me down, but veterans always made them let me finish...and by the time I was done not a dry eye was left. Jack Kemp was chosen to fight back against Doles detractors, to be the "Attack Dog" that Dole had been for Nixon and Ford, that let them stay above the fray, he never did. McCain was then brought aboard to fulfill that role...he too never did. He truly had a "Commitment to serve", much of it trying to pay back the people of Russell who dropped nickles and dimes into a cigar box at the Ice Cream parlor he had worked at before the war to help him to afford the doctors that saved him, and for his parents to visit him in the hospital....He became a Lawyer because the old soon to retire Attorney had no son...and the only other Lawyer in town was rich, had a son following him into the Law...Dole had no plans for the future, there was not a "Job" for anyone with his degree of disability in Russell, the Old Lawyer told him he would support Doles education because EVERY town deserved two opposing Lawyers and Bob could provide that service.. His mother took notes for him in class..The VA eventually provided him with a recorder so that notes were not needed. He was also colorblind...before a debate he asked a "top Aide" for the Foreign Policy folder, she told him "It's the Green one", he got up and left the table. She had to be told he was colorblind(shows how the top campaign people failed to educate the staff) Some people in Congress wanted to give him the CMH when he stepped down from the Senate to run full time, Clinton as President would have been required to Salute Dole every time he saw him, Bob refused to allow it, "Wouldn't be Fair". We spent weeks setting up a major speech in San Jose Calif to spell out/flesh out the entire 15% Tax plan..he explained it all...Candy Crowley then did her stand up for primetime and said "Here at another Dole event, where he is touting his 15% Tax Plan, but has yet to explain how he is going to Pay for it" she hadn't even been there to hear it, she was in the press tent, the whole time, eating and emailing. NONE of the speech was broadcast on any major network. Streptomycin...ubiquitous, ever present today, some member of YOUR family has likely had it administered.. Dole was dying, his father rode standing up as there were no seats left on the train to see his son one last time. Doctors said there was nothing left to do. "Nothing??"...A doctor said, Well there is a new experimental drug we have tried a couple of times, but all those treated have died...Dole's dad said "What is there to lose at this point, give it to him". It Worked. Everyone has a connection to this man, most have never known.

#6, "big Donald Trump guy"? Please provide some proof. I doubt that extremely and he was my Senator for many years. This does NOT fit with his history in politics. If it is true, it is a massive change in heart. I am skeptical, but willing read any evidence you can provide.

With a massive build of Russian troops near Ukraine’s border, Russia’s Vladimir Putin is indicating a willingness to risk a military conflict, but analysts say while the threat is serious, an invasion is not certain. The threat of an invasion will be the central subject of President Biden’s video call with Putin on Tuesday. Biden is expected to warn of dire consequences should Russia follow through with a military offensive, while Putin is expected to reiterate his ultimatum that NATO should not allow Ukraine to join its military alliance. The outcome of the video call could have major implications as Putin weighs the potential costs of a full-fledged invasion of Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was addressing an international investment forum yesterday when a reporter asked him about rumors of United Nations troops possibly being deployed to Ukraine. While this question was probably staged in advance by Putin, his response was considerably more confrontational and threatening than his previous comments on the subject. Putin warned that having foreign troops staged inside of Ukraine would be a “red line” for his country and could result in “a strong response.” He also invoked the possibility of the United Nations staging advanced weapons systems in Ukraine,

What is your first thought when viewing the picture above? For most, I daresay, the first thought is Nazism. In actuality, the picture is from a Goa Lawah Temple in Bali, Indonesia, which is a Hindu temple. The swastika is, in fact, an ancient symbol. And its meaning has to do with the culture in which the symbol is situated. In a Hindu temple, the swastika is a revered symbol “conducive to well-being.” In Germany of the early 20th century, it was a symbol of racial purity for the Nazis indicating a German’s blood affinity to the ancient Aryan culture

DAVIS, Calif. — Banana peels, chicken bones and leftover veggies won't have a place in California trashcans under the nation's largest mandatory residential food waste recycling program that's set to take effect in January. The effort is designed to keep landfills in the most populous U.S. state clear of food waste that damages the atmosphere as it decays. When food scraps and other organic materials break down they emit methane, a greenhouse gas more potent and damaging in the short-term than carbon emissions from fossil fuels. To avoid those emissions, California plans to start converting residents' food waste into compost or

President Biden has signed a series of executive orders to make the federal government carbon neutral. The Democrat president on Wednesday ordered federal agencies to purchase electric vehicles, harness wind, solar, and nuclear energy to power facilities, and to use sustainable building materials. The goal is for the federal government to stop adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere by 2050. In the next decade, Biden wants the government to cease purchasing electricity produced from sources that emit carbon dioxide. By 2035, the administration wants all new federal cars and truck purchases to be zero-emissions. Right now, only about 1.5% of the government fleet is electric vehicles.
