The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) assembled a Rules Advisory Committee (RAC) earlier this week to address a permanent indoor mask mandate in the state. Oregon is one of a few states that still retain one nearly two years into the pandemic. The committee included several community stakeholders, including representatives from the hospitality industry, the business sector, and faith communities, according to local ABC affiliate KATU. Dr. Paul Cieslak, the medical director for communicable diseases and immunizations with OHA, explained to KATU that OHA's potential "permanent" indoor mask mandate is not necessarily permanent because it can be repealed. "Permanent means indefinite.

U.S. officials believe Russia is planning a multi-front military invasion of Ukraine, involving as many as 175,000 troops, as soon as early 2022, Fox News has confirmed. The U.S. is taking recent signaling from the Kremlin very seriously, and does not consider the matter a bluff, a senior U.S. defense official told Fox News. Russia already has about 100,000 troops stationed along its border with Ukraine, the defense official said. When asked about the report Friday, President Biden vowed the U.S. would make it "very, very difficult" for Russian President Vladimir Putin to carry out the plan. "We’ve been aware

Not all relationships end in “happily ever after,” and birds are no exception. While more than 90 percent of bird species form monogamous couples, many of these will end in divorce. The reasons for splitting up are as varied in birds as they are in humans, and often revolve around things like poor compatibility or slacking off by one partner. However, new research has found a surprising cause of divorce: climate change. Like many seabirds, black-browed albatrosses form monogamous pairs that can last for the entirety of their 70-year lifespans. However, just under 4 percent of these couples will separate

The U.S. economy created far fewer jobs than expected in November, before a new Covid threat created a scare that growth could slow into the winter, the Labor Department reported Friday. Nonfarm payrolls increased by just 210,000 for the month, though the unemployment rate fell sharply to 4.2% from 4.6%, even though the labor force participation rate increased for the month to 61.8%, its highest level since March 2020. The Dow Jones estimate was for 573,000 new jobs and a jobless level of 4.5% for an economy beset by a chronic labor shortage. A more encompassing measure of unemployment that

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden wants to take a victory lap on the infrastructure deal he signed into law last month and to pitch Americans on his social and climate spending bill working its way through Congress, but the coronavirus has other plans. The president was elected on the promise of bring the pandemic to an end, but fears over the global spread of the omicron variant prove the shadow of COVID-19 may loom larger than the administration anticipated. Much like this summer, when the delta variant ripped across the country and undercut the White House's celebration in the pandemic fight

DENVER — The union representing more than 2,000 RTD employees didn't hold back when expressing frustration and outrage over the conditions at Denver's Union Station. "It’s a hellhole. It is," said Lance Longenbohn, president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1001. "It’s not safe for the public. It’s not safe for the employees. It’s getting worse." Longebohn doesn't want to take credit for the phrase "hellhole," saying that's how an employee described the current environment. He says he has been fielding complaints from drivers and is concerned about their safety. "They actually said to me it’s a good day if

Administrators at Stanford sent an urgent email to the university staff and students on Monday, reassuring them that two ropes found on a tree that “resembled nooses” would be thoroughly investigated since nooses are “a potent symbol of anti-Black racism.” But the administrators added they didn’t know if the ropes, which were estimated to have been there for almost two years, were actually nooses or “part of an abandoned swing or rope ladder.” A copy of the email was provided to the Washington Examiner and was sent by Dean of Students Mona Hicks as well as Vice Provost for Institutional

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Peter DeFazio, who has represented Oregon’s Fourth Congressional District for 36 years, announced Wednesday he won’t seek re-election in 2022. DeFazio is the longest serving House member from Oregon and the 65th-longest serving member of the House in U.S. history. “With humility and gratitude, I am announcing that I will not seek re-election next year,” DeFazio said in a press release Wednesday. “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as Congressman for the Fourth District of Oregon. For 36 years I have fought corporate greed and special interests to benefit Oregon’s working

Rep. Adam Kinzinger said in a podcast released on Monday that he had not "made amends" with the relatives who publicly accused him of "treason" for his vocal criticism of former President Donald Trump — and expressed that he had no plans on doing so. (Snip) "I have not made amends with the ones that disowned me and I don't intend to. This is not meant to be a bad thing because — it doesn't mean if someone treats you badly that you have to accept that for the sake of getting along. Don't be the person that's disowning somebody because they

President Joe Biden’s African travel ban went into effect Monday. Biden's actions here directly contradict what he said when former President Donald Trump instituted similar travel bans to stop the spread of the coronavirus. In fact, they lay bare an underlying insincerity about Biden's entire handling of the pandemic. When Trump did this exact same thing, Biden stoked the flames of racial hatred to get elected. Now, nearly a full year into his first term, Biden is the dog that caught the car. He duped 81 million people into voting for him, and he has no clue what he is

Matthew McConaughey isn’t running for governor of Texas. After months of speculation, the 52-year-old actor officially said he won’t be participating in next year’s race for the statehouse in a video posted on Twitter. “It is a humbling and inspiring path to ponder, it is also a path that I am choosing not to take at this moment,” McConaughey said in the video. “What am I going to do? I am going to continue to work and invest the bounty I have by supporting entrepreneurs, businesses and foundations that I believe are leaders.” McConaughey had been flirting with the idea

AMSTERDAM - Dutch military police on Sunday said they had arrested a married couple who left a hotel where they were in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19, and were attempting to flee the country.
