I'd be smug, too, if I had a half interest in the UNIPARTY that controls national politics. Name a major Democrat initiative that has been repealed or otherwise pushed back once passed in a major way. (It wasn't Obamacare.) In the meantime, with Republican help, the Congress has appropriated TRILLIONS over the past three years to "stimulate" our economy. And now we hoot about inflation? Who couldn't see that coming? Like "The Big O" said, you got to spread it around a little...

Smug may be one word to describe Democrats but it would be more accurate to call them incompetent. They destroy everything they touch.

Not long after the Prius came out, I talked with a couple Prius owners. After that I told people that when pronouncing 'Prius', the 'r' was silent.

Number 5, I did courier work and used a Prius. Frankly, it was a pretty well built car for my purposes which involved over 300 miles a day. It was reliable and got great gas mileage yet it was about as much fun to drive as a laptop and I was always concerned about any of the hybrid specific components failing since they would be far too expensive to replace/repair. We usually grow attached to our cars but on the day it was totaled at over 300,000 miles I barely glanced back as the wrecker hauled it away.

Joe Isuzu Biden: Concern-trolling high
energy prices to voters -- and working

Joe Biden has repeatedly claimed that high energy prices, including soaring prices at the pump, are some kind of priority for him. He's made loud noises for the cameras about a couple of piddly measures of his to cut energy costs for consumers, which would at best be temporary and at worst, useless. But out on the sly, he's stepping up his war on Big Oil, something he doesn't want you to know about, which will raise energy prices. He's still Creepy Joe. On camera, he loves to say the things he thinks all those voters who now disapprove of him would like to hear.

Normally, when going to stay at a friend’s house, etiquette requires bringing a gift – say, flowers, some wine, or something to eat. But what about the strange circumstances Joe and Dr. Jill Biden face while staying at the Nantucket estate of multi-billionaire hedge fund founder David Rubenstein? It’s a really, really long (since Tuesday night) weekend stay, so one might wonder if Benjamin Franklin’s famous aphorism, that guests, like fish, start to smell after 3 days, comes into play. But nope, not a chance. You see, while “visiting” their “friend’s” estate, Joe and Dr. Jill are not going to see the Rubensteins at all.

After France just barely saved the great cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris from a terrible fire in 2019, it now looks as though 'destruction' is paying the cathedral another visit. According to Rod Dreher, writing at American Greatness: The Telegraph‘s Tim Stanley, along with colleague Henry Samuel, scored quite a scoop: he reveals a secret plan to renovate — that is, wreckovate — Notre-Dame de Paris, and turn it into a Gothic Epcot Center. Read on: Paris’ fire-ravaged Notre-Dame cathedral risks resembling a “politically correct Disneyland” under controversial plans for its renovation seen by the Daily Telegraph.

After I wrote my Kamala Harris shopping-spree piece here, deriding Harris's rude refusal to speak French to the locals at a fancy cookware shop in Paris, AT editor Thomas Lifson pointed out something important: Kamala Harris actually ought to be able to speak French. Here's how she did: (Snip for video) Turns out she was educated during her four high school years in Montreal, Canada, where her mother worked as a cancer researcher during the late 1970s, early 1980s. Montreal is Canada's top French-speaking city. In 1977, approximately just when she arrived, a law was passed in Quebec requiring the use of the French language.

Vice President Kamala Harris spent over $500 on cookware in a Parisian shop amid rising inflation and economic uncertainty at home in the U.S. The vice president visited the shop on her four-day diplomatic trip to Paris last week, reportedly dropping 516 euros on pots and pans at high-end cookware store E. It's hard to not find oneself full of contempt with the Biden White House, given its flatfooted response to soaring energy prices. Nationwide average energy prices have shot up 70.63% since Joe took office back in January, going from $2.40 a gallon on Jan. 25, to $3.40 a gallon today, according to AAA data. In the eight western-most states in the union, plus Pennsylvania, the average goes as high as $4.71 a gallon. That comes on top of a record 69% rise in oil prices that occurred in the interim between Joe's "election" and the day Joe took office. That kind of pricing is known in markets as "anticipatory."

There's nothing like a smarmy, smug leftist who's realized he's cooked his own goose. That brings us to the case of Chesa Boudin, the district attorney of San Francisco, who's effectively legalized shoplifting in the name of "criminal justice reform." He's prompted massive store closures with ugly videos of broad-daylight robberies on large and small stores. Boudin's refusal to prosecute has turned San Francisco into another socialist crime pit, Caracas. And now, like his mentor Hugo Chávez, he's facing a voter recall. This seems to be concentrating his mind, given that he's suddenly changing his tune — and comically enough, fooling no one.

In Chile, the presidential election was straightforward: communism, or liberty. Pick one or the other. No soggy middle. So guess which one got the most votes? Yep, liberty, and I'm not talking about some namby-pamby nice-guy RINO kind of liberty, respectable at Santiago cocktail parties. It was 100-proof hard stuff liberty, prompting shudders from the press. The Associated Press reports this: SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) — Two onetime outsiders hailing from opposite extremes of the political spectrum received the most votes Sunday in Chile’s presidential election but failed to garner enough support for an outright win, setting up a polarizing runoff in the region’s most advanced economy.

Democrats were up to some slimey old tricks in their bid to ram through the nomination of radical, left-wing Saule Omarova into the position of comptroller of the currency, the nation's top overseer of banks. At the hearings, Sen. John Kennedy triggered a ruckus after he asked what a lot of us are asking: "I don't know whether to call you 'professor' or 'comrade.'" It prompted hollers of 'McCarthyism' from leftwing senators Sherrod Brown and Elizabeth Warren, along with 'racism' and 'sexism' and 'nativism.' We saw the Dow take a huge plunge immediately after, likely in part because of thinking that this news could lead back to more government restrictions and problems.
